  1. My BLT drive on my computer just went AWOL, and I have this big project due tomorrow for Mr Kawasaki. If I screw up, he'll make me commit hari-kari

  2. "I'm gonna take you to the bank Senator Trent. To the Blood Bank" hahaha one of the worst one-liners ever. Guess the movie.

That article talks about nerds staying home for days at a time. I think I've gone at least 6 months without leaving the house many times over the years.

I have no issue with sports being cancelled because: A: Idiots were jumping quarantine to go to sporting events and, B: I can actually enjoy listening to my vintage radios while working on stuff both inside and outside the house. Ohio is sports obsessed and weekends are almost endless games with hours of droning pre and post-game shows.

  8. 5200 HSC is getting wrecked this season, I count 9 broken records so far.

  9. Aargh! I made it to the final battle with Kong on Gameboy Donkey Kong 1994, and couldn't win! How unfulfilling! I've never finished this game.

I did it a few years ago.  I remember REALLY sweating that final battle, but pulling it off.  My advice would be to play in an emulator so you can leverage a save state.

  10. After almost 10 years, I'm revisiting Fallout 3 again. Still a great one!

  11. Amazon has a really good deal on the first 3 Rambo movies in 4K. $12.99 ea/ with a $3 coupon on top of that. So each one is only $9.99 at checkout. I grabbed them.

I remember when they used to charge premium-prices for movies on the latest hi-res formats. Can't do that anymore!

  12. Amazon is recommending an anime to me I've never heard of: Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie (4K). It's from the early 1980's, and looks interesting. Chances of me liking it? I like Royal Space Force, Fire & Ice, Appleseed...

    1. x=usr(1536)

      x=usr(1536)

It's fun.  Dates from around 1983, IIRC, and definitely fits with the type of anime that was coming out at that time.  Not sure that it's one I'd spend money on owning, but if it's free on Prime give it a shot and see what you think.

I would add extra shredded cheese to the frozen Tostinos party pizzas all the time!  Sadly I stopped buying them when they changed the packaging a few years back.  Heresy!

  15. Beat-Em-Ups...the term itself, a construct. Did we just call them 'fighting games' before Street Fighter II happened? I can't remember anymore. The advent of the FPS forced us to come up with the term Shoot-em-up (shmup), since they hijacked the generic 'shooter'.

I always categorize Street Fighter and its ilk as "VS. Fighting Games", and Final Fight and its ilk "Beat-em-ups".  It's hard to get the proper nomenclature figured out.

Yeh, I guess Golden Axe was and still is my go to "walk along and beat people up" games.

  16. Been trying to beat King Of Dragons solo on SNES. I have a good shot at it with the Warrior. The Dwarf is a no-go.

I *want* to say I beat it in college.  I know I had the game, and I distinctly remember playing quite a bit of it.  It was a long time ago, though, I have no idea which character I used or if I even did get to the end...

  17. Broke my eyeglasses the other  day, and I've been wearing a 4-5 year old prescription backup pair. Getting in this afternoon to the eye doctor for an exam, and get some new glasses. I'm 44 and still not on bifocals yet, I keep expecting to have to switch to that sometime soon.

Hope you aren't getting headaches wearing the old prescription!

I'm 51 and have had progressives for about 6 years.  Fortunately I've had the same prescription the past 3 years.   Presbyopia truly sucks since the sides/peripheral vision is always unclear now, and I have to direct my head straight-on to see things clearly, like reading smaller signs while driving.  Even if I get laser/lasic .. the bifocal/reading problem wouldn't  get fixed.   I will say my own anecdotal experience --  both I and wife went to Walmart optical first to save money, but those progressive lenses were CRAP compared to going to a real eye optician . My 1st pair, from Walmart optical, if I moved my head, the floor rolled like waves of the sea!   My 2nd pair on (from my usual family eye doctor) were much better quality.   I now get digital (they scan your eyes).  Other than the side-view blurriness, I don't even think about it most times.

    3. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

Costco has a good optical department -- their lenses are high quality and include anti-scratch and anti-glare coatings in the very reasonable price. They don't take insurance but that's OK because they're cheap anyway. They have some fashionable frames and are happy to fill another doctor's prescription. I've been happy with them for my eyeglasses needs.

Now that I have IOLs (look it up) I kinda miss their glasses department.

    4. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Yeah, definitely have this running headache from the strain of an old prescription. I'm prone to migraines anyway. I usually pay quite a bit for lenses because I have to have every amenity for my job (UV protection, anti-glare, scratch resistance etc..). I get nice quality frames too because I like the light weight and durability, they can get banged  around once in awhile. Unfortunately I didn't break them because of my job, although I'm not sure the boss would have compensated me anyway.

  18. Can Activision Decathlon be played with the Track & Field controller? I mean all of it...

  19. Can you invest money in Amazon Prime Delivery? Because that thing is going to bury all the other package delivery services out there

Nice to hear.  Generally, I hear nothing but negative comments about it.  I loved it at launch, and have played through it multiple times over the years.

      SlidellMan

To tell you guys the truth, I have gotten sick and tired of all the flak towards it. Especially when there are worse games made in the past ten years that would make even Maddox and Tom Fulp want to apologize towards it.

      Cobra Kai

It's certainly a rather relaxed game when you play it, I never feel rushed. Kind of just take your time and figure out the puzzles, and move on. The auto-targeting works really well, and my biggest complaint would be the shoddy camera, which is usual for N64 titles, so it's not like CV64 stands out negatively in that regard either.

  21. Dang it! I keep getting my butt kicked on Military Base secret level of Jaguar DOOM

  22. Did any other Rock bands follow the Heart model, which was hard rock in the 70s, the successfully transition to light songs in the 80s?

Michael Bolton's another. He had a handful of hard rock albums, rubbing elbows with Kiss and Ozzy. Then made a hard transition into pop/AC in '87.  I remember seeing one of his early videos pop up from time to time on Headbanger's Ball, which was always very weird.

  23. Eating frozen pizza for dinner, watching TV for a bit. The worst Jean Claude Van Damme movie is on, Derailed. I'm a big fan, always have been. I consider myself an expert on all things JCVD. This is the worst movie he has.

What kind of pizza? When we do frozen pizza, it's either Drafthaus and Lotzza Mozza these days.

Haha, just a cheap Tombstone. Sometimes if they are on sale, a Digornios or Screamin Sicilian. But I won't spend more than $5 on frozen pizza. We have great Italian pizza in my town at many places, so if it's not cheap frozen pizza, it's $20-25 for a quality pie.

  24. Firing up the grill maybe for the last time this year. Got some Asian BBQ marinaded pork chops...mmmm! This weekend it's cooling down quite a bit.

Whether you say grilling out or barbecuing, it's always one of my favorite ways to eat. Here in San Jose, the weather starts to take a dip sometime after my birthday. October 18th. Every year it's nice on this day and not too much after it starts to cool down.
