Oh, and Final Doom is nothing spectacular, just a weasly way to milk the franchise(it is worth $7 though IMO). For a real treat you must indulge yourself with Doom 64 for the N64, 32 all new levels, completely rendered in 3D, except the enemies are still 2D sprites but they look great, and the game can throw massive amounts of baddies your way.

Actually there is a massive mod from these guys :http://www.doomsdayhq.com/ that you can find, to convert all Doom games to run in Hi-Res, along with a complete mod for Doom 64 to run on your PC.

I believe you must hit c-right and c-left at the same time to save. How are you liking Doom 64 by the way?

I believe the entire current problems with N64 controllers, is due to the Mario Party series, and anyone who's played them will know why. The controllers themselves, I think, are very sturdy and reliably built, especially the analog stick assembly itself, and I never had issue with any of my 4 controllers until I got the first Mario Party game back in 1998 or whenever it was. I think these things would have lasted alot longer had Mario Party been designed differently from the start, being as its such a popular game series, this has lead to alot of N64 controller malfunctions and abusive wear and tear. I blame Mario Party

Should i get raiden cart only or should i hold out?
Cobra Kai replied to sega saturn x's topic in Atari Jaguar
You should be able to get Raiden for $14 complete, and thats including the cost of shipping. I would hold out....unless you just can't stand the waiting -
No way Conkers is rare. That game was on clearance at TRU for months on end for $9.99. Imagine how many parents bought their kid Conkers while perusing the isles at TRU? Same goes for Perfect Dark and Paper Mario. Ogre Battle , Command & Conquer and Monopoly were clearanced from Best Buy for $9.99 until sellout, and that took a couple months as well. Every used game shop you go to you can find these games easily. The only games I can remember not seeing in stores for a very long time were Rush 2049, Starcraft, Hydro Thunder.

You started out with class my friend! I'll be honest here, you will be hard pressed to be as satisfied with the rest of the Jaguar library after starting out with T2K, AvP, and Wolf3D...those are 3 of the very best games on the machine, especially T2K which is SHOCKINGLY good. Thats not to say there aren't other great games, just that T2K is one of the best games of all times even considering all other systems out there, but you won't be let down. It looks like you have I-War, now thats a game that I really dig, but doesn't get alot of talk here, although maybe once in awhile. But I think alot of people view it as average. For myself its in my top 10 best Jaguar games, it has great techno music which would be right at home on the T2K soundtrack, and I like the whole environment of being 'in' the internet, plus there's a good array of weapons available for your sled. Also the 2 pinball carts are awesome on Jag. You already have an awesome selection of titles though, Rayman, Raiden...both supreme games...make sure to take plenty of time to play these games through and enjoy them to the hilt. I've always had the problem of buying too many games at once, for a system, and then not devoting enough time to ANY of them. If you must buy a newer Jag title, I most certainly recommend Protector SE, its a sure thing to satisfy.

Guys...real simple fix. Your 5200 joystick must be perfectly centered. It will input directional commands that override your Competition Pro, or other digital control. So if your 5200 stick is just slightly down/left...then whatever game your playing, say Berzerk...then your man will continuously walk down/left without any input from your Comp. Pro/Redemption accessory. I actually recommend inserting Berzerk into the system to calibrate the 5200 stick before you play. Since it supports 8-way direction, its the perfect game to get that stick just right. You should be capable of playing all the games flawlessly after that. THEN DON'T TOUCH IT!

Because I'm old enough and have the actual hands-on arcade experience with every single one of these games when they came out, along with every game on MAT1. I can call em classics because I have perspective. I totally understand how people who didn't get the chance to experience classics like Xenophobe at the arcade with 3 players, might not appreciate it now. No sweat off my back. It reminds me of one of my favorite Megadeth songs with this lyric: "Back in the day, I remember you weren't there. It doesn't matter anyway, because you wouldn't understand"

Insignificant? IMO, it's one of the only truly "classic" games on the disc. It's insignificant because it is the only game on the disc that doesn't work right, and it's horribly misplaced on this compilation anyway. Far removed from the late 80's theme. 1 game out of 20 that isn't done the best it could have been done. For $20 bucks there's really nothing to complain about here.
-
You get a different ending for each character you finish the game with. So yes, it's worth it to play thru the game and finish at least once with Alucard, Grant, and Sypha. I can't think of a better game to replay to be honest.

MAT2 is a great compilation. It boils down to whether you like the games or not. It's not a matter of if the conversions were done right or not, becuase from what I can tell with my time playing it so far, is that the emulation is dead on, for most of the titles. The most obvious error is with Wizard of Wor being awfully fast, but this is an insignificant little game that some of you are saying ruins the entire compilation which is just nonsense. I don't see how people can say these games suck. It's not like they are brand new games that were developed for the home consoles. These are tried and true arcade classics that were highly successful during their heyday, and made plenty of money for their proprietors. To say that something like Hard Drivin 'sucks', is quite ridiculous. This game was absolutely revolutionary in its design when it was released, with the force-feedback steering, 3d graphics, realistic physics models, along with true brake and clutch pedal controls, Hard Drivin was a step towards virtual reality gaming. It might not translate well without the fancy cabinet and controls, but it doesn't suck. I love this compilation. I got it for Xenophobe, Xybots, Timber and Total Carnage, all games that are flawless so far as I can tell. This compilation is better suited for multiplayer IMHO, whereas the first MAT had great selections for single player, like Robotron, Defender, Stargate, Spy Hunter, etc...

Dual Joysticks >single stick. I mean really, is Robotron greater as a single stick game? What about Smash TV, or Total Carnage? Timber as well? Or Karate Champ? I'm guilty of some of the worst fanboyism, so I know it when I see it...pure unadulterated 800 fanboyism on display

Wow...what a piece of shit. Yep...that pretty much sums it up.

Just wait until you get far enough to have Fuze Tankers....I hate those more than anything.

-M.U.S.H.A. (hard to find, best shooter on the Genesis) -Rambo III -Space Harrier II -Roadblasters(awesome port of the arcade classic) -Forgotten Worlds -RISK (Genesis plays a mean game of Risk, quick interface) -Tyrants (Real Time Strategy) -Herzog Zwei (Real Time Strategy) Rambo, Roadblasters, Risk and Forgotten Worlds are fairly easy to find....the others are kinda hard to find.
-
kinda looks like arcade pac-man to me. I could be fooled though, cuz I know all to well how good a conversion the 5200 pacman is.

Collect and play Neo Geo for about 3 years and then you'll be glad to come back here and pay $70 for a new Songbird game and $250 for Battlsphere Gold.

Original Atari Joystick controllers - what are they like?
Cobra Kai replied to sharopolis's topic in Atari 2600
cx40 > everything else. -
hmm...Ok I will have to put the game on expert then. I find the most important thing to do is to just keep thrusting and kill all the aliens that pick up the humanoids....then the rest of the level kinda falls into place after that. And like you guys said, I did notice that after awhile the skill of the AI kinda maxed out and stayed the same...I was able to do practically the same exact thing every level after wave 40 or so.

What is considered a good score on the 5200 version of Defender? I was playing last night on 'normal' difficulty and zoned out, got my score to 1,500,000 with no end in sight...the only reason I stopped was because I was getting tired. I'm convinced I could get alot more score than this....

the Atari 5200, its controllers, trak-ball and game library
Cobra Kai replied to Henry Lee's topic in Atari 5200
And Im gonna disagree with you on the comp pro. To a point... The comp pro, for control is a good alternative, however the placing of the 2nd firing button makes games like Moon Patrol, Defender, hell, ANY game that needs the 2nd fire button totally unplayable. I tried training my right pinky to press it while holding onto the stick...no dice. I tried reaching my left hand around to the right without completely losing control of my direction...no dice. Now, that said...if you happen to get Donkey Kong either on a cart, or play the rom via the A52 Maxi cart...it's AWESOME! Almost as identical of an experience as playing the real thing as to Centipede with the trackball, or Robotron with the joystick coupler. Absolutely great! Ok you know what, I forgot to add that I'm left handed. Which means the way I hold the Comp Pro is I use my left hand for the joystick, and then I wrap my right hand on the controller so that my right thumb is used for the main fire button(the left one), and then my palm kinda naturally presses down the secondary fire button, it just takes a slight squeeze....I never really thought about how awkward it might be for a righty. -

Cobra Kai replied to Henry Lee's topic in Atari 5200
I'm gonna disagree that a working 5200 stick is the best option....however I'll agree that it is better than the Wico controller....but nothing can compare to the Competition Pro Joystick for the 5200. Once I got one of these my high scores went up up and away! And no more hand cramps either -

Cobra Kai replied to Henry Lee's topic in Atari 5200
In 1983 those 5200 sticks were state of the art...however, I never cared for the mushy buttons...they make you think you need to push harder than needed. Also, the position of the fire buttons is the worst feature...nothing can come from the design of the 5200 stick other than hand cramps, and I couldn't believe Atari followed this design with the 7800 sticks...blech...
