So there's going to be a re-release of the Star Wars cab then? I might jump on that, it's such a sweet looking cab and it sucked I missed out the first time around.
-
I'd say it's worth the money, I've put a lot of hours into it.

If that happened I would restart the game and take a different mission (so I could avoid that section). After playing through the mission and saving progress, I found the glitchy, off-limits area would suddenly be fine again.
The game does have a grand scale, and it can be a lot of fun if you work around the couple of glitches. I would recommend it, and it's definitely beatable.

Wait. It's incomplete? Since when? It's not advertised as being incomplete!
Ok, perhaps I'm incorrect, but I consider it incomplete because it's not a finishable game. But other posters are saying it's possible to finish this game, but I've never seen evidence of it.
-
I've read in the past that the more you upgrade the ship, and the deeper into the game you get, the game starts to suffer unplayable slowdown.
-
It's too bad this game is incomplete and glitchy. Every time I pop this in and start playing I get a feeling that this game has a grand scope, with the massive city to explore, and the upgrade system to the ship. Dare I say it has a hint of simulation to it with the first-person cockpit view, but only just a touch. I think this game feels like an RPG more than any other game on the system too, even more than Towers II.

I've been tempted to buy Street Fighter: The Movie for some time. Can anyone tell me if it controls like a standard Street Fighter 2 game? I've never played it, but I love digitized graphics, and I'm comfortable with SF2 controls. I don't think I would like it if it has Mortal Kombat controls, for instance. Also, regardless of the control scheme, is there some fun to be had here? I've seen a few videos and it seems fine, but for some reason the game was never popular at all.
-
Well without giving anything away, I figured out you can avoid certain things all together, and I think that's part of the joke. Some of the games are really fun, and some are not. The game I like a bunch is Zombat, and Woodgal Adventure is pretty good too. I dislike the Dart game and UFO Alert. I actually think the Dart game is out of place, I wouldn't put one in my arcade. I find Darts more suited to a bar and/or pool hall setting.
I would have liked to see the game selection less scripted. So everyone who plays this, you'll get the same 5 games to start with, and then the next 5 games are the same and so on. It would be interesting to have a more open ended game selection so your arcade can become somewhat different than everyone else'. I would also like to see more options for the decorations such as different carpet and neon signs/posters. Another minor complaint is that I would like consistency with the AI bots that appear to be playing the games, and that games' popularity. What I mean is, I always see a person playing the Cyber Dance machine despite it not being a big money maker. But my Racer Chaser game is my most popular game, but I never see any people playing it.

Under Defeat looks incredible - is that available as a game disc only, or can you buy the image? I mostly use an SD reader modded DC at this point for wear and tear reasons. I also have my regular DC but no Retrotink yet... Also need to look at Border Down, Sega Lord X raved about it and got me interested with a video he just released.
I bought the actual disc game. I use a DC-X as an import enabler. It's cumbersome but I didn't really look into alternatives.
-
I will be sure to play some Cannon Spike, Rush 2049, and Under Defeat on my DC this weekend.
Under Defeat is a fairly new acquisition for me, I think I got it earlier in the year. I was actually thinking about selling my DC collection at the time, and then decided to buy this game instead.

I've been playing the arcade version quite a bit on my A1up Yoga Flame unit. There are times during play where I think it's got serious flaws. The movement is weird, so weird as to make it tough to have the same exact game. The hit detection is not refined either, the game just feels unfinished.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, obviously it's not, but there are aspects that needed ironed out, the game feels raw as it is. There are frustrating moments for me when I can play two games back to back and have completely different outcomes, even though I have the stage memorized and know what to do, because the control and the hit detection is not precise enough.

All of this is true but it begs the question with Evercade... Are there enough fans of the Evercade EXP over those who are happy with the Handheld and/or the VS, and don't want the EXP? I guess that's something their marketing team would have looked at in detail before greenlighting this Capcom thing. But to be clear, the "can't please everyone all the time" is of course true...but when you may be talking about a literal majority of the people who know about and already own an Evercade, that's different from "some". But maybe I overestimate the # of us who aren't interested in shelling out for the EXP.
I think there's way more potential customers to buy the EXP, then there are existing customers. If I'm Blaze, I'm looking to expand my user base.
It might feel like an affront to existing Evercade owners, but really they need to get more users that can buy cartridges right? Capcom is going to get exposure, this is a real coup for Blaze and I hope it works out well for them.

Why did you get Class of 81 when you had the Dig Dug? They have the same games for the most part, although the Class of 81 is a beautiful machine. I'm not blaming you, just personally I couldn't justify the expense to have a machine with duplicate games on it.
Your pictures aren't loading for me in this quoted post.

To the OP, there's nothing stopping you from starting topics in SNES. If it's a game I'm familiar with I'll join in. I play my SNES routinely, but I mostly don't write about it. That's pretty much true for most of the forum anymore. I need to have a serious burst of inspiration to start a new thread around here, something that gets me excited for some reason or another. I'm more interested in gameplay and strategy, if it's anything about programming I'm out.

My suggested solution is to have three sets of leaderboards: All-time, Monthly, and Weekly. That way there can be renewed competitions for the Weekly and Monthly boards (when the All-time scorelers* are focused elsewhere). Maybe even a daily board too, why not - like Joust's "daily buzzards."
*"scoreler" - a Japanese arcade term for high score chasers
The T2 cab does have an All-time and Weekly board. Implementing this feature across all the games could help.

Great scores to -1, but you max score players are leaderboard killers. I wouldn't be too happy if I were A1UP, because leaderboards are a selling focus point right now. When the average or even good players have no hope to break onto the board in any meaningful way, then one of the strongest reasons to purchase the cabinet is removed.
Real Arcade operators found this out the hard way when income would drop on certain games and pinballs because the scores were out of reach of casuals. So, they would reset the high scores from time to time.

Yep, the Classic Gaming General section has always been the main draw for me, and lately I just seem to frequent the same four or five threads and ignore the rest that seem somewhat pointless. There was a time where it was busier and there was a wider array of users, more of which simply enjoyed videogames, not necessarily just Atari. I joined up on this forum a long time ago because of the Jaguar, and the fact I started with a 2600, but I've always fallen in the former camp, being a fan of videogames and not a single particular brand. I do wish more users here were like that. Thinking back, even the Modern Gaming section had more active participants a long time ago now. Seems kind of slow these days.
I do suppose as you mentioned, it doesn't seem like a lot of people here are actively playing games very often. Or, if they are, they surely aren't talking about it as much as one would expect.
I know exactly what you mean. Personally, I can't imagine limiting myself to a single platform for video games. But, we have members right here on this forum who only are interested in one video game console, and at least one member where that console isn't even an Atari!
AA is the only gaming forum I actively participate in, but years ago like most of us, we were all posting on multiple boards.

Actually, I noticed a pretty large decrease in activity several months after I joined, and it's gotten worse in the past few months. It's not exactly a secret that I don't care about Nintendo or whatever at all aside from Metroid and Fire Emblem, and I don't exactly stop by the Nintendo sections often because of that, but now that I've seriously started to play arcade games for the first time in my life (yeah, I was born too late for that, and also in the middle of nowhere where there weren't any arcades anyway...), the fact that the only activity in the Arcade and Pinball section is basically just that one dude who spams his Youtube videos that nobody watches is very sad.
I've mostly moved over to the shmups forum recently as a result, as there is actual discussion over there, and I only really stop by here to read the few comments that do get posted in the sections that I read and to post in the time trackers for the most part, so...
I'm registered at shmups.com, but don't post at all. I mainly stop by to read strategies and tactics of whatever current shmup I'm into. That place depresses me because everyone there seems to be super geniuses at every shmup. I used to think I was a pretty good shmupper, but after browsing those forums you realize you're not very good at all.

I have it on Xbox X, and while I would probably compulsively buy the Jaguar version, I can't really see myself playing this game without twin stick controls now.

Not true that A1up is not disclosing this information.
Now "heavily censored" is a matter of opinion but I think the angry gamer hyperbole generator might collapse in on itself if it were forced to confront an even greater reduction of the number of hits. It's just a reality of business that this game and many others have to be modified from their original forms. Probably everybody on this forum knows how to get the original games for free and play them right away in their original form, and depending on the emulator you use netplay is there as well. A1up did what was necessary to bring a licensed game to the market.
Well I've been corrected, thank you. My level of anger at this is low because I wasn't going to buy this cab anyway. I find their disclosure rather disingenuous, or contradictory (or both?). How can you remove %15 of the hits in this game, including the pile-on tackles, and still 'maintain the level of excitement as the original' and also claim 'all of the fun chaos is still there'? I was there in the arcades, and I distinctly remember from myself and watching other strangers play Blitz. There was always an exclamation of excitement from the pile-on tackles, even though they didn't directly affect the gameplay, it put smiles on faces.
If you ask why would this make me angry at all? It's a philosophy. I don't want my movies, music or video games censored. It's pretty easy to understand.
I'm also disturbed at the level A1UP is willing to re-engineer the ROMS to censor like this. You know damn well to remove this many animations from a game is a significant engineering feat, and was not done for a good reason.
I have another thing to say. Why am I suppose to blame the NFL? A1UP agreed to this deal. They are making the game, they re-engineered the game, they are selling the game.

I'm really happy with the new Gaelco and Jaleco arcade carts. There's some pretty sweet games on these that I've never played before. World Rally 2 is just bad ass, I've always loved these isometric racers. And I had no idea The Astyanax was an arcade game, I had only ever played the NES cartridge.
