Those two carts coming with the new handheld model are sick! Is there now, or will there be a compatible joystick for the VS? Toaplan and Irem are must have carts.
-
Yeah, I just got the VS over the weekend, and had some fun with the Technos and Data East carts included in the box. I definitely like the controller, although the shoulder buttons don't feel that great ergonomically, but I haven't had to use those. I appreciate the extra long controller cable, and the console itself was surprisingly solid. For the price I was expecting the build quality to be much flimsier, however it's sturdy and has a solid feel to it. For comparison, my Super Retro Trio has the cheapest feeling plastic I've ever had for a console (though it still does the job I want it to do), and the packaging for that was cheap as hell, and the controller sucked. The Evercade VS is pretty nice for very little money. Unfortunately most of the cartridges available I don't really have much interest in, so I hope hope hope the game selections improve. At least the game carts are inexpensive.

When I go to the A1UP site, I don't see those two new cabs anywhere, even though on the video above about MK, the guy was clearly scrolling and viewing, on their website, the new Yoga Flame SF cab.
-
Guys, that new SF2 cab design looks like the Hyper Fighting conversion that Capcom released as a kit. The side artwork is gaudy though and does not reflect the original. Both sides of this argument are correct, in that the artwork is distracting, but also for some people it may not matter if the cabs are squished together. That cab has authentic elements and unnecessary flare. I want if for the sloped/improved control deck, and the excellent game list.

You have a base answer to everything: Emulation. You're the vanilla ice cream, beige luggage member of the forum because you would have the most boring arcade in existence.
-
I don't care for that style of loud, busy, obnoxious artwork. Didn't like it for the Marvel cabs, don't like it here. But that is a stellar game list. I've been complaining about the game selections, and this is a huge improvement.

I'll have to check that out because I don't want to waste an otherwise perfectly good X1

Is the 360 considered retro by this point?
Cobra Kai replied to Frozone212's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Not retro. Not until at least the system goes completely offline. As of now, you can still automatically log in on the 360, and still sync games with it between other Xbox models. I don't play multiplayer so I can't say about server status, but I think there might be active leaderboards for shmups and other games. Hard to describe something as retro when that thing is still on uninterrupted service since launch day. -

The Official Sega Saturn Thread!
Cobra Kai replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
This is not me telling you to go elsewhere, I'm honestly curious, aren't there Japanese forums dedicated to the Saturn (or classic gaming in general)? Or is the idea of people gathering online just to discuss this stuff more of a western world phenomenon? -
Do you see game prices ever going back down?
Cobra Kai replied to dudeguy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The other collectibles are not equivalent to video games. A person can actually play video games. Beanie Babies and sports cards are not far removed from say, the Pet Rock for example. -

"HOLD MY BEER" /America Seriously though, everyone so far in the past 20 years that have predicted some sort of vintage game crash, has so far been wrong. -
Hey all, it's been awhile for the old blog. I need to get some thoughts off my chest about a game that played a significant role in my life, just as much as video games have. That game is Magic: The Gathering. I was turned on to this game in 1994 by a friend, about when The Dark was released. I started off meeting more players and playing late nights at a local club, making some ever after life long friends from it. As time went on, I began playing tournaments, mainly sealed deck tournaments, which is where I really enjoyed the challenge of building decks from random, limited card pools. I was ranked top 20 in the state of Indiana on the DCI tracked leaderboards at one time. Though, I never went to compete nationally or anything, but a player like me can build up a decent rank just through regular play and winning here and there. By playing all these sealed deck tournaments, and purchasing booster boxes sometimes, and through lots of trading, I've managed to acquire a very nice and old collection. What I've been struggling with very recently is whether it's time to sell. The stuff is worth money, I will get thousands of dollars. How many thousands? I don't know, I would like $10,000 but unless I do all the legwork myself will have to settle for probably half that (or even less!). My problem is that I still love to play this game! However, all of my 'Magic' friends sold their cards a long time ago, and that only leaves me with having to go back to the club to play. Do I want to start going to the club again to play Magic? Well, that means I'll want to start playing Sealed/Draft again, and that means spending money on the product, AGAIN. It's weird, but I feel like I could have 'one more run' in me before I divest myself of this collection. But, that one more run is just sinking money into the game when I should be spending that money here at home, on my home. What is going on with me and Magic is that I feel like I have 'unfinished business' with the game, because I have constructed almost 20 decks for EDH/Commander and Casual that I just haven't had a chance to play against random opponents, or any of my friends. I want to play all these decks against people just to see if what I created with my brain was worth all the time I spent on it. Some of these decks I have played against people because they are older ones that I have developed over the course of 20 years, but some of them are new and I haven't had the opportunity. I am extremely apprehensive about selling off my cherished Magic collection without fulfilling this need to play my decks. Once the stuff I have is gone, there is no getting it back, and there will forever be this urge I can't satisfy. I'm really struggling with it. I try to remember the negatives of the game too. I remember that along with making friends, there are a ton of annoying people that you meet as well. There are also extremely irritating rules to follow and frustrating games that are played. This is a tougher decision to make than deciding to sell video games, because cardboard Magic requires other humans to play. I think maybe if I went to the club and found a way to play some games, perhaps I would find that I don't like the game anymore. Maybe I would find it too irritating and decide to sell after all. I don't know what to do. So usually, when I don't know what to do, I sit on it and think about it some more.

Yeah, and again with their terrible version of Paperboy. Both Defender II and Mystic Marathon ran on the same hardware as Defender and Joust, those would make more thematic sense. And well, why not JOUST 2? They are making some improvements to the hardware architecture, but are being really obtuse, lazy, ignorant and just damn stubborn on the game selections.

Top Skater! The game that inspired Crazy Taxi and THPS
Cobra Kai replied to awbacon's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I was fortunate to have this available in a local arcade for a few months, where I pumped quite a bit of money into it. This was a really fun game, and there were always people spectating when I played it. -
Sorry, I'm having trouble following the discussion. Is it not a good time to buy the handheld right now? It sounds like there is a newer, better unit in the works?
-
Dang, I thought I had a good game the other day at bridge 30!
-
The one image from the profile view made it look vertical, but thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I don't have to concern myself on upgrading.
-
I think the Centipede cab has an improved button layout. Yeah, wifi leaderboards are nice.
-
That Centipede is a legit upgrade (over the Tempest cab) if the monitor is vertical, which it appears to be.
-
It does help. It also helps to hook it up to a CRT as opposed to a newer LCD.
