  1. Psst...everyone on the forums is soooo dumb! Except you and me. Good thing this is a private message, lets keep this between me and you

Kobra Kai wins the Internet today I think!

  2. I really  don't want a new Xbox unless it completely obsoletes the previous hardware. And history has yet to have that happen for any console that I know of. I just don't need more consoles in the house, I have enough. I want something that is fully backwards compatible for once, so I can discard/sell the old one.

Right? Was hopefull for the PS5, so I could get rid of my 1-4, but doesn't look like that's happening. I'm done, I done have room or bandwidth for more consoles!

  3. Is Amazon going to compensate us on the Prime service fee that we paid for, but they are not providing?

What service is Amazon not providing?

Do you use Prime Video? If so, they're providing their services.

    4. Cobra Kai

They are not providing 2-day prime delivery on any goods they deem non-essential. That is a major component of the prime fee, and the primary reason I pay for Prime. I am not discussing Covid19 and the good of humanity. If a service is paid for in full, compensation is due to services withheld, much like the auto-insurance example.

  4. My high school career, cliff notes version: after school detention, saturday school, and ISS (in school suspension). Damn I sure was a trouble maker

I looked through and tossed my public school records recently.  Totally a misspent youth.  Luckily i did the Army before college to straighten up a bit.

I had to do Saturday detention for a month -- 8 hours a day, but it wasn't because I was bad.  We moved in the middle of the year, and my old school started 2 weeks later, so I was 10 days short.  The law said you needed to attend a certain number of days to graduate, and I'd have been short.  The principal said if I go to Saturday detention for a month, he'd pass me for the year.  I just did all my homework, papers, projects during that 32 hours.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

@jd_1138  Sounds like a good way to do it, getting homework done etc.,.  But  Damn, that must have sucked losing a month of weekends.  We had one Saturday school day to make up for a snow day once in grade school and I couldn't stand it!

  5. Is the high top fade making a comeback?

  6. Just got issued an Essential Employee certificate. I guess its to show the fuzz. You won't see that on Live PD

I've always considered you a very essential person.

After "non-essential businesses" closed down, my sister and her husband found a giant line at the (usually desolate) liquor store...Inside, the owner said "This IS an Essential Business!"      Hell Yeah it is!!

  7. I really miss my Nelsonic Game Watches that I had in high school. Tetris, Zelda and Super Mario Bros. I wore the buttons off all of them.

Now they look to be too expensive to reacquire. I rode my PUCH moped to KMART in another town to buy them one at a time. Ah, memories.

I have a Nelsonic Pac-Man watch, but instead of the buttons it has a tiny joystick. Plays a decent game of Pac-Man, too!

My cousin had that one! I played the crap out of it. I remember it would leave an indentation on my thumb.

That article talks about nerds staying home for days at a time. I think I've gone at least 6 months without leaving the house many times over the years.

I have no issue with sports being cancelled because: A: Idiots were jumping quarantine to go to sporting events and, B: I can actually enjoy listening to my vintage radios while working on stuff both inside and outside the house. Ohio is sports obsessed and weekends are almost endless games with hours of droning pre and post-game shows.

  9. It's pretty nice outside today, about 50 deg. I might go outside and rake up the debris that piles up over the winter.

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Wow, it's nice and sunny, but really windy. It's never fun raking in the wind, but I got it done. Old leaves, pine needles and pine cones mostly.

      Good Job!

Even after 3-4 days in the 50's here, I still have a mini glacier in my front yard that resists melting... and now it's snowing again...

  10. Eating frozen pizza for dinner, watching TV for a bit. The worst Jean Claude Van Damme movie is on, Derailed. I'm a big fan, always have been. I consider myself an expert on all things JCVD. This is the worst movie he has.

    1. save2600

      save2600

What kind of pizza? When we do frozen pizza, it's either Drafthaus and Lotzza Mozza these days.

    2. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Haha, just a cheap Tombstone. Sometimes if they are on sale, a Digornios or Screamin Sicilian. But I won't spend more than $5 on frozen pizza. We have great Italian pizza in my town at many places, so if it's not cheap frozen pizza, it's $20-25 for a quality pie.

  11. Monday, I discovered a muskrat wedged into my chain link fence. It tried to crawl through and got stuck halfway in. The thing was big, I can't believe it got as far as it did.

I thought about how to free it, and considered chopping it in half with my axe. Instead, I took my bolt cutters and carefully snipped the fence around his torso, then pushed him a little until he escaped.

He wasn't aggressive at all, in fact rather docile. Who knows how long it was there though, but it lived. See, I'm a nice man.

Dang.  Everyone beat me to the muskrat love references.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Glad it got out OK!  Was it going in or out?  I hope it didn't cross the yard, then get stuck on the other side haha...We had muskrats where I used to work in this pond, and once I saw one cross in front of my car and I wasn't sure what it was because it looked like a big beaver, but with a different tail, but pretty sure that's what it was...Also I always used to see these much smaller ones in Sloan's Lake in Lion's Park.

  12. I'm not sure if I  really want it, but I put the Evercade in my shopping list on Amazon. Could come in handy at work.

    1. King_Salamon

      King_Salamon

I was about to pre-order the Evercade with all the carts each of the past two weekends before backing out.  It seems like a cool gadget but then I look at the retro collections I have on my Switch or 3DS and I begin to question how often I would touch them.  I look at the retro games I have on my TV based consoles and I don't touch them at all.  At this point, I'll hold off and keep my money in my pocket.  There isn't a single title so far on the Evercade that I MUST HAVE that I don't already have.  There is some 16 bit stuff that I'm a bit interested in, but not enough to make a purchase.

If I had some spare dough,  I'd probably want one.  Nothing to spare at the moment though, esp. with the NT Mini coming out in July one last time,...and the fact that I rarely play handhelds even though I have a lot of them...Hmmm.....May get one later on in life...I like their multicart approach and think the price point is pretty good.

  13. Just ordered 3 more game posters for the game room. Final Fight, 1942, and Donkey Kong.

  15. Beat-Em-Ups...the term itself, a construct. Did we just call them 'fighting games' before Street Fighter II happened? I can't remember anymore. The advent of the FPS forced us to come up with the term Shoot-em-up (shmup), since they hijacked the generic 'shooter'.

I always categorize Street Fighter and its ilk as "VS. Fighting Games", and Final Fight and its ilk "Beat-em-ups".  It's hard to get the proper nomenclature figured out.

    4. Laner

      Laner

Michael Bolton's another. He had a handful of hard rock albums, rubbing elbows with Kiss and Ozzy. Then made a hard transition into pop/AC in '87.  I remember seeing one of his early videos pop up from time to time on Headbanger's Ball, which was always very weird.

  17. I love the 8bitdo SNES wireless controller, and highly dislike the Retro Bit Genesis wireless. The 8bitdo controller has no problem keeping sync. The Retro Bit Genesis is a pain in the butt to sync every time I turn the Sega on!

It's like I always say 8BITDO is Awesome!   Hyperkin is Awesome!  Retro-Bit is Crap!

      Cobra Kai

Now I have to buy the 8bitdo Genesis wireless controller! Honestly, the Retro-Bit controller itself it pretty nice, but the hassle of reconnecting the dang thing every time I power up is super annoying.

  18. Can you invest money in Amazon Prime Delivery? Because that thing is going to bury all the other package delivery services out there

Amazon's stock ticker is AMZN.  And I Highly recommend it!!  :D

  19. Broke my eyeglasses the other  day, and I've been wearing a 4-5 year old prescription backup pair. Getting in this afternoon to the eye doctor for an exam, and get some new glasses. I'm 44 and still not on bifocals yet, I keep expecting to have to switch to that sometime soon.

Hope you aren't getting headaches wearing the old prescription!

I'm 51 and have had progressives for about 6 years.  Fortunately I've had the same prescription the past 3 years.   Presbyopia truly sucks since the sides/peripheral vision is always unclear now, and I have to direct my head straight-on to see things clearly, like reading smaller signs while driving.  Even if I get laser/lasic .. the bifocal/reading problem wouldn't  get fixed.   I will say my own anecdotal experience --  both I and wife went to Walmart optical first to save money, but those progressive lenses were CRAP compared to going to a real eye optician . My 1st pair, from Walmart optical, if I moved my head, the floor rolled like waves of the sea!   My 2nd pair on (from my usual family eye doctor) were much better quality.   I now get digital (they scan your eyes).  Other than the side-view blurriness, I don't even think about it most times.

    3. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

Costco has a good optical department -- their lenses are high quality and include anti-scratch and anti-glare coatings in the very reasonable price. They don't take insurance but that's OK because they're cheap anyway. They have some fashionable frames and are happy to fill another doctor's prescription. I've been happy with them for my eyeglasses needs.

Now that I have IOLs (look it up) I kinda miss their glasses department.

    4. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Yeah, definitely have this running headache from the strain of an old prescription. I'm prone to migraines anyway. I usually pay quite a bit for lenses because I have to have every amenity for my job (UV protection, anti-glare, scratch resistance etc..). I get nice quality frames too because I like the light weight and durability, they can get banged  around once in awhile. Unfortunately I didn't break them because of my job, although I'm not sure the boss would have compensated me anyway.

  20. I bought Taito Legends 2 so I could play Gun Frontier and Metal Black. Those are some pricey games on Saturn, so this'll have to do.

I did it a few years ago.  I remember REALLY sweating that final battle, but pulling it off.  My advice would be to play in an emulator so you can leverage a save state.
