  1. Yeah, I just got the VS over the weekend, and had some fun with the Technos and Data East carts included in the box. I definitely like the controller, although the shoulder buttons don't feel that great ergonomically, but I haven't had to use those. I appreciate the extra long controller cable, and  the console itself was surprisingly solid. For the price I was expecting the build quality to be much flimsier, however it's sturdy and has a solid feel to it. For comparison, my Super Retro Trio has the cheapest feeling plastic I've ever had for a console (though it still does the job I want it to do), and the packaging for that was cheap as hell, and the controller sucked.

The Evercade VS is pretty nice for very little money. Unfortunately most of the cartridges available I don't really have much interest in, so I hope hope hope the game selections improve. At least the game carts are inexpensive.

  2. Guys, that new SF2 cab design looks like the Hyper Fighting conversion that Capcom released as a kit. The side artwork is gaudy though and does not reflect the original. Both sides of this argument are correct, in that the artwork is distracting, but also for some people it may not matter if the cabs are squished together.

That cab has authentic elements and unnecessary flare. I want if for the sloped/improved control deck, and the excellent game list.

That's the one singular thing I hate most about home arcades. One game taking up so much space, and wanting a variety of them consumes your whole basement.

Perhaps best to have two or three at the most to say "Arcade!" and the rest picked up through emulation on a multi-cade of a sort.

You have a base answer to everything: Emulation. You're the vanilla ice cream, beige luggage member of the forum because you would have the most boring arcade in existence.

I don't know about that SF2 artwork... looks kind of mismatched... but it's gonna have Giga Wing? That's really cool!

I'm curious what games have been added to the new Ms. Pac-Man.

I don't care for that style of loud, busy, obnoxious artwork. Didn't like it for the Marvel cabs, don't like it here. But that is a stellar game list. I've been complaining about the game selections, and this is a huge improvement.

I had this happen to me before. If I remember right holding sync button and the disc eject button together will force the system to start up and safe mode and allow you to do a full restore.

I'll have to check that out because I don't want to waste an otherwise perfectly good X1

  6. Not retro. Not until at least the system goes completely offline. As of now, you can still automatically log in on the 360, and still sync games with it between other Xbox models. I don't play multiplayer so I can't say about server status, but I think there might be active leaderboards for shmups and other games.

Hard to describe something as retro when that thing is still on uninterrupted service since launch day.

Yeah, but I figure asking and having an extremely tiny chance of getting something is better than not asking and definitely getting nothing.

This is not me telling you to go elsewhere, I'm honestly curious, aren't there Japanese forums dedicated to the Saturn (or classic gaming in general)? Or is the idea of people gathering online just to discuss this stuff more of a western world phenomenon?

Tough call.  The answer though is yes, the tough call is the WHEN.

What started in 2012 really took off in the year after and spread like a cancer and as others noted about 4-5years after it hit peak stupidity and plateaued in various systems, some even lightly corrected back some.  Some of their own merits, and others they took a slam because of the easy grab of millions of NES and SNES Classic Editions hitting the market.  Sure you didn't get a real system and cart, but it was a real licensed NES and SNES (mini) console from them with legit games that played excellent.  It did some harm to some games, some more than others short term, as I recall Earthbound took a pasting as it did years earlier when Nintendo blew out its virtual console arrival as it took like $50 off the price.

The issue here is that while it was starting to level out, especially on just games, just manuals to a degree too, you had the trifecta of evil show up with WATA+Heritage Auctions+ Douche Halperin setting up coin scam v2.0 with games.  This drove an obscenely well orchestrated and destructive flow of deep pocketed scum into the market.  All this because of the bump caused media spin, and when you get weekly/monthly hits of WOW Mario is worth 1.5MILLION or Mario64 is worth twice that shit it brings every mom, pop, redneck, grifter, scavenger and other bottom feeders out of the depths to get their next great hit.

They're shallow and dumb, they just figure so what if that's in a plastic box with a sticker, my game that looks like someone used it for TP or as on oil drip pan must have real value too.  You get a mass of these cretins mixing in with others who are after the big game hunting 6-7 figure stuff and it makes EVERYTHING get expensive.  Inflation has little to nothing to do with this.  It just takes one beat up copy of a formerly $15 copy ($20 nice) of Battletoads going for $30 with cheese grater sticker damage and the next fool will do this or figure theirs is nice so I'll do $50.  Then someone pays, the another suffering from FOMO-dumbass-itis does it too and it snowballs.  That's where we are.

We need to see a two pronged reality check basically.  The bottom feeders need to realize their shit isn't rare, and isn't the few remaining copies and the buyers need to realize this too.  We also need to see the media cares vanish by having the sealed up boxed major bucks stuff cool off and stop being covered to drop awareness.

If that isn't it, people just need to get PISSED OFF and mentally scream ENOUGH and check out.  The more and more these people try and abuse others for a buck the more it will run people straight to another hobby, or thieving alternatives like ROM boxes (pi, system with flash kit, etc) or just using their own PC they already have for free as emulators are so dumb these days(and for years) it's literally click n' go.  The more people who leave the less will fight, the less that fight, the less they'll pay and it will snowball.  Eventually as the ball rolls, more panic and get out before they lose their asses.  It happened with sports cards and comics in the 90s, beanies like 15-20 years ago and pogs about then too.  There just needs to be a tipping point when enough just get fed up and remove the floor out from the greedy sods who don't give a shit about the medium, just the green, and then, then we will have a correction that makes things better largely, as real few and far between rares stay up -- look at Atari stuff for example.

The other collectibles are not equivalent to video games. A person can actually play video games. Beanie Babies and sports cards are not far removed from say, the Pet Rock for example.

Yours looks amazing, and doesn’t have the raised edge at the edge of the control panel that theirs still has after, what, two solid years of customer complaints?

Nevertheless I am 100% getting theirs. Sooooo glad the best arcade game of all time is finally getting some respect put on its name.

Just wish they’d cycle out the Mortal Kombat games for some real arcade classics. I prefer the home ports of those that don’t shamelessly cheat. And quit it with the Paperboy already.

… hey, is Klax new? What did it replace?

Yeah, and again with their terrible version of Paperboy. Both Defender II and Mystic Marathon ran on the same hardware as Defender and Joust, those would make more thematic sense. And well, why not JOUST 2? They are making some improvements to the hardware architecture, but are being really obtuse, lazy, ignorant and just damn stubborn on the game selections.

Hmm, I could be wrong but I think the monitor is horizontal. It's just not immediately noticeable because a) Centipede has a completely black background, and b) 4:3 isn't hugely different from 3:4 (at least not as drastically different as, say 16:9 vs. 9:16).

Personally I am a bit disappointed that they went with a horizontal monitor, but I understand the reasoning - mainly, that Atari made many more horizontal games than vertical games. I still want to get the cab. Down the line it should be a fairly straightforward mod to rotate the monitor and replace the PCB with a Pi or PC.

I added an orange 4:3 outline to the image for reference:

The one image from the profile view made it look vertical, but thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I don't have to concern myself on upgrading.

I just received my system with box and four games. Everything powers on and plays but the picture is horrible. I am going to get an rf-f connector over the weekend and bypass the rf switchbox to see if that helps.

It does help. It also helps to hook it up to a CRT as opposed to a newer LCD.

    Oooh...

There are a number of long play videos on YouTube which really do help you with gameplay. I'm not the best player, but STUN Runner is certainly oe of the Lynx's top ten games.

Except Stun Runner has errors in the code that make the sled slow down on the sides. There's a thread around here about this, with the programmer included in the discussion.

If you've played the arcade game, it makes the LYNX version cookoo bananas, because it handles opposite with the speed.
