  1. Best Buy and A1UP website are running some hefty discounts right now on The Simpsons and TMNT Turtles In Time, and Terminator 2.

Just my opinion, but this is some evidence to me that A1up is having trouble moving these single game cabinets (or 2 games), to put these on such a heavy discount at $200 off, so soon after release. I hope they really think about this for the future.

Personally I'm not asking for 2000 roms per cabinet, not even 50 roms, but let's squeeze some games on these that make sense with the Marquee games. For instance, the TMNT games could have had Sunset Riders, Devastators and possibly GI JOE (if they could have secured the license). All those were 4 player Konami arcade games.

I thought the Golden Axe cabinet was a good model. At 5 games, it's about the bare minimum for roms, but still, it was a good value not a great value, just good/acceptable. The new Ridge Racer with 5 games is a good example of what A1UP should strive for, at the minimum. The new Golden Tee Pro? Fantastic game list, but may prove too expensive as well.

We aren't that impulsive. This is precisely why I haven't purchased the TMNT:TiT cab, because I know I'll bore of the games fairly quickly. There needs to be alternative games on these cabs. They look absolutely beautiful, and while that is a major part of the attraction, I need extra games to have staying power, otherwise I'll pass.

  2. Did Taito have a 3-screen version of Continental Circus? Because, after I looked up the TX-1 game, I don't remember being that excited about the game itself. You're right, it was little more than Pole Position. I do remember playing quite a bit of Continental Circus. I think I'm confused about which multiscreen racer I played a bunch.

  3. I've had the pleasure of playing quite a few of these multi monitor cabs. I always thought Darius looked great, but the gameplay just so incredibly bland. I've played the Tecmo Bowl cab, good fun there.

There was a racing game that stands out as my favorite in this style, I want to say it was called T-1 or TX-1. Anyway I had a blast with that one.

Now with using the activity streams, there seems to be even more Garfield posts, at least as far as posting ratio goes.  :(

I don't see any since I have that user on ignore. I don't use the activity stream thing either.

  5. The Wonderful 101 is my favorite WiiU game, and is the IMHO the best game on it, and the reason to own the system. Although, now that it's also on Switch, that last part isn't really true anymore.

I think the game is incredible, it has the best presentation of any game I've played, and an innovative game mechanic with the drawing of the weapons. It's visual style is like super deformed anime, the whole game looks like your watching a cartoon on TV, except highly immersive and interactive. Plenty of action fighting that involves button mashing (the game even makes fun of that), but the enemies do have patterns you must learn to get past their protections.

    Great game, and funny too.

Does the Atari 5200 have the biggest box?

It's the largest of all the consoles that I personally own, I know that much. I didn't have the pleasure of unwrapping it brand new, so I can't speak to it's original purpose of being so large, but with the cardboard dividers in it, there certainly appears to be an entire row available to store boxed 5200 games inside. It would be interesting to know for sure if this was intended, and if that was factored into the extra large design of the box.

My instincts tell me this is probably not so, as what I'm probably missing is that most of the components probably had Styrofoam of some sort holding all this in place.

  7. Roguebook is a new roguelike card-based adventure game, designed with help from Magic: The Gathering's very own Richard Garfield. His name being attached pretty much convinced me to buy this, and I have not been disappointed.

It's VERY similar to Slay The Spire, in fact I can't imagine any fans of that game not instantly liking this game. I will say that Roguebook is better than STS, as it features a top-down adventure exploration mode as a mechanism for building your deck of cards. Where as STS simply has you choose branching paths on a map, with the exploration being abstract, in Roguebook you actually control your character/s on the screen and explore the map in a way of your choosing (with limitations, you can only open up so much depending on your ink reserves).

The deck building, item collecting and treasure acquiring aspects are almost identical to STS. A newer aspect which again gives a better advantage to Roguebook is the addition of Gems, of which you can attach Gems to your cards permanantly. These Gems have various bonuses, such as extra block, or Draw A Card etc... So, you can enhance your cards with these gems to make them much more powerful, and it's better than how Slay The Spire handles upgrades, since you get to choose which cards get which upgrades, you're making your own custom cards.

Another slight improvement to this game over STS is that not only are there 5 characters to choose from, all with unique card decks, but you also choose a companion character at the beginning of the game, so that you are always a pair and are building one deck out of two pools of cards. So, you kind of have to balance your drafting and not overload on one of the characters cards because each character can only do actions with their cards. You really need to have both characters to have cards to use each turn.

    Good game, get it.

Great game list, great price, might consider even though I am very nearly out of space and want to save a spot for the eventual Robotron cab...

But I would love Ms Pac, Galaxian, Dig Dug, Rolling Thunder, and King and Balloon, mos def.

It's a lot more money, but Class of '81 is superior. I feel you about the space too, I told the wife I'm going to be very selective going forward, as I can fit another 5, possibly 6 cabs and then I'm done. I'm looking to add one cab per year from now on.

Yes, the look is much more authentic.  But ... given how they've been pricing their cabs, this just seems like it is entirely outclassed by:

Yes, I'm an iiRcade fanboy now.  But I also like A1up and understand they each have their ups and downs.  But with the DL iiRcade selling for $600 free shipping and Sanwa controls, this just seems like an easy victory for the iiRcade.  On the other hand, iiRcade is indeed much less well known and A1up's marketing behemoth will get a lot of these sold regardless.

I have not ruled out one of these. Honestly I do not like their aesthetics (form factor), but for the price some of the benefits are nice (expandability). I really want some shmups and beatemups, and I'm not confident A1UP is going to produce any significant units for either of these genres.

dragons lair is back (not sure about the scoreboard technology)

Hmm, "Pending Licensor Approval, Smartphone Not Included"

Looking closely at the picture, that scoreboard is certainly shaped like a smartphone isn't it? So, it's possible the plan is to have the end user set their smartphone in that slot, and just have a BT connection with the machine.

Yes, I think a collection is not in the spirit of the thread, but a very good idea. Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Classics has over 50 games alone. With compilations allowed, I would probably choose 3 compilations.

Ya, since this is the classic gaming section, it might have been better if I made it 3 Cartridges. I bet we would have seen some compilations, because I would probably add Super Mario All Stars to mine if that was the case.
