  1. I just came here looking for info on my own Dimerco Electronics made 2600.

Actually, I just saved it from my Dad's storage and looked to see if it was a Sunnyvale or what. My serial number is much lower I noticed.

Also, there's a number "340" between the label and the power socket. What does that mean?

    Atari2600label dimerco

    atari2600top dirty

    Atari2600 340

  2. I wonder if a package named "ultrasatan" somehow is more likely to get flagged by customs. As I've ordered other things from Lotharek with reasonable shipping times.

    It is frustrating to wait.

Lotharek doesn't put the name "UltraSatan" or anything like it on the packaging. It may just be bad luck. I've ordered computer parts and also regular books within my own country and had them delay so long (like a month or more after expected delivery date) that the company re-shipped a replacement order and wrote the original shipment off as lost (and they file a claim to recover funds or whatever). It can happen with anything. Sorry to hear about your misfortune!

  3. edit 2: Doh! just remembered that the ST will need a SCSI adapter too! I think I'll have to get some CF or USB card drive for this ST instead...will Satandisk or UltraSatan work with a standard ST? It will have a least TOS 1.4 in it when it's all said and done as I think I have that version in a broken 1040.

Yes, it will work. You should read the thread called "Ultrasatan" in this forum. On page 8 there's a discussion regarding which TOS versions work, and how they differ is explained more in the following pages. But I'd read the whole thread if you're going to get one.

  4. If you've seen a boot-time mem test, you're seeing a system with TOS 2.06 or newer. The STfm models never shipped with TOS newer than 1.04, so it's normal that you don't see it on yours. I agree with Official Ninja about using Sysinfo to check. I'm sure a memory tester is also available, but I don't know of it personally.

  5. I think the MIST is more attractive to more people because of the abandonware game collections freely available for the ST/STE line. There were a lot more people who had those systems, and have fond memories of games and music creation. Instead of just techies and programmers, you're now including gamers. And the price is low enough to attract more casual nostalgic people.

  6. And if you want a falcon clone there are hades, milan, firebee etc ...

Except that Hades & Milan are not available anymore... and because of their age, many of them are failing.

The FireBee is pretty much all that remains, and it's very expensive for its specs in today's world.

The fact is: these are hobbyist computers. If we want the fastest and most compatible with everything in the world today, we buy or build a Windows/Mac/Linux computer.

The Atari platform... the FireBee... is far removed from today's computing world. Nobody wants one except us nostalgic techies and programmers. It's hard for most of us to justify spending $1,000 on something we don't need. If the price was $200-400, I would feel comfortable buying a fairly barebones project that would give me a lot of enjoyment.

  7. You can't just replace the drive in an Atari hard drive enclosure with a normal drive. They used MFM drives. You can find them on sale, refurbished, for as little as ~$100 (US) but they're like 44mb in size. You wouldn't want to mess with adapting an MFM drive interface to anything more modern, either. I think the only logical way to go is with an UltraSatan or similar SDcard drive.

  8. I also received my UltraSatan today, only 8 *calendar* days after it shipped. Estimated delivery time was 8-15 *business* days!

I won't have time to play with mine until after April 15th. I'm super busy with customers (I run my own on-site computer repair and server maintenance business) and doing taxes for the first time... and realizing how unprepared I've been!

Wish I was more organized from the beginning! But this reward awaits me when I'm finished! :D

  9. Lunar, that's the way I'm planning to use mine.

Yeah, the ICD drivers were big enough to prevent me from playing a game on my 1mb 1040STF a few days ago. The same game played fine off the floppy when my hard drive was disconnected.

I wonder what kind of memory footprint the PP driver and HDDRIVER have?

  10. After reading this thread just now, I was wondering: is there a status page on the development of FireBee features? Like a checklist that gets updated as breakthroughs are made? Or do we have to read every FireBee thread and parse through all the information? (I love reading these forums, but it's hard to keep everything straight in my head!)

  11. I recall reading somewhere the other day that there were problems writing over 32mb, though. I don't know if it applies to this combination of software/partitions/hardware/etc. I think the thread is over here: http://www.atari-for...=17697&start=50

Is this something we need to be careful about? Or is that old thread something that doesn't apply to us now?

edit: I'm not up to speed on all this stuff - I'm trying to understand everything, but I might be just asking dumb questions! haha
