Oh yeah, almost forgot :... my favorite powerup has to be the spotter, especially since it's not the easiest game to play on my keyboard. My strategy makes me kinda partial to all the defensive powerups.
I like Robo Squash a lot. Granted I play mine on Handy, but it's still a challenging, fun, and underrated game. I haven't seen too many reviews on it- good, bad, or ugly. All I know is that I play it regularly, and it gets plenty of use.
I don't know if any of these have been attempted, but here are a few that might look better vectorized
Yar's Revenge
- Why not, if it was inspired by Star Castle
Gravitar
Battlezone
- Any attempt to vectorize - even with the 2600's shortcomings - would most likely be better than the originals, who also should have been vectorized in the first place.
It sounds like an obvious question, but can I program for the 2600 through an emulator, and not the original console? I ask only because my original 7800 got stolen, which needless to say would make things rather difficult. If I can program and play games thru Stella, I'm in.
INTV was a good system, but not a GREAT one. The graphics were better than the 2600, but only slightly. The controllers were terrible, they just fit better in your hand. For all of the 2600's faults, I'll still take it over INTV.
I don't know about Stella, but MESS will save you a screenshot. I'm running Mac 9.2, and I save a screenshot by cmd->S. By default it saves the file as a .png Quicktime in the Screenshots folder. Hope that helps. Come to think of it, I don't think I even have the screenshot option on my version of Stella.
The version of Slither I'm running on MacMESS is not working right- I can't get my ship to move or fire. All the other games work correctly, so the only thing that I can think of is that it originally played using the Roller Controller and not the joystick. Has anyone else run into that problem?
You should try it out on MESS if you haven't already, but as far as games go, my favorites are:
Burgertime
Beamrider
Pitfall 2, if you can find it
Venture
Donkey Kong - goes without saying
Spy Hunter
H.E.R.O.
Montezuma's Revenge
Popeye
If you can get the original hardware, then go for it. I play mine on MESS for free. Good luck.
I'm running Stella on 9.2, and I've never had any major problems. Some games might not run, but I got it to run on the first try. Send reply with an email, and I'll send you the version I have.
Does anyone know anything about the Emerson Arcadia 2001? I mean from first hand experience- I did a few searches on various sites, and reviews and/or memories have been lukewarm at best. I know that MESS will support it, but is it worth my while to bother looking for ROMs for that system except for just shits and giggles?

Would it be possible to run these ROM images I've seen on vintage pinball sites on MacMAME? I've done some searching on PinMAME, but all those versions that I've come across only run on Windoze.
Also, can I run Intellivision ROMs on MESS? The only INTV emulator for Mac that I've found won't run.
For arcade, MacMAME. I use Stella and MacMESS for 2600, 7800, and Vectrex. I need to figure out how to get it working for ColecoVision. For the Lynx, I got the Handy. I use them all daily, and love them all dearly. Anyone got a good pinball emu for Mac?
Thanks for the tip. Now how do I get it to appear in the system list? And yes, Roger Bannister does do excellent work- got the Handy- but I can't run Mugrat on Mac 9.2....or can I?
I was on the net looking for ColecoVision emulators, and I came across a
site that sounded like MacMess can emulate CV roms. Is this true? I don't see it listed in MESS when I run it. If not, does anyone know/have a Mac CV emulator? Thanks.
I had a few:
CAZ- the first syllable of my last name.
WHO- after I started listening to the Who.
SAB- after discovering Black Sabbath.
ZIP, ZED- when I got a bad score that still cracked the high score table.
ARP- after my favorite synth, the ARP 2600.
Pretty much all of my favorite games:
I, Robot
Major Havoc
Black Widow
Quantum
Snake Pit
Reactor
Exterminator
the Exidy shooter series
Star Castle
Qix
Bubbles
Sinistar
Turkey Shoot
and plenty others that escape me right now....

I read about the Easter Egg in Battlezone 2000 in which you hit the Option Button three times then reset to get to BZ 3D on the Lynx, but I couldn't get it to work on the Handy. Has anyone out there been able to do it? I'd like to know.
I understand that MacMAME supports input sprockets for game controllers. Does anyone recommend any one controller, or one to avoid? I've got both a mouse and a third party trackball that works on all apps EXCEPT MacMAME. Thanks for your support.
