  1. Does Major Havoc actually get to the Planet Vaxx, or does he just fly from one space station to another blowing them up?
  2. I'd keep the Black Knight. It's the classic, hands down.
  3. Is there any way to configure the keyboard settings for the 7800 on MESS? All I can do is use one of the joystick buttons, or on Xevious I end up firing from both. WHA HAPPEN?
  4. You go like this: Tie-toe See? I pronounce Moog like this: ...and the cow jumped over the Moog. Even though Bob Moog pronounces it as in: Moog, Larry, and Curly.
  5. Does anyone know if a Vectrex emulator for the Mac exists? I've never owned the original console, and I want to see what it could do.
  6. I'm running MacMAME on a G3, and everythime I start it up, the game input settings always return to their defaults rather than the custom settings that I assign. Also, vector games don't run smooth until after I futz around with the frameskipping and performance pulldown menu. Wha happen?
  7. Is there anyone out there that has the ROM for STUN Runner? I found it curious that it wasn't available for download here on the Lynx section. Come to think of it, why isn't it? Meanwhile, the Handy is still getting plenty of use. Thanks for your support
  8. 60,000 points doesn't sound too shabby to me. That's around where my highest is. Well, you probably already know to not pull back when the guided missiles come out. When they first appear, I just sit and let them come to me. Around 30,000 points when they get smarter, I usually move toward them and shoot. Bad move? I wouldn't mind a few tips either.
  9. I just read the article. For the most part, a solid top 10. Asteroids was great even if I kinda sucked at it. I don't think Pit Fighter was that big of a dud, but that's nitpicking, isn't it? They're gone, but they won't be forgotten.
  10. The future of arcades? I have to say that right now, it doesn't look good- between the home consoles, the net, and the overall dullness of only fighting games and racers out there in the remaining arcades. The only reason to go to arcades now is if you've got an itch for pinball. The demise was inevitable once the technology became cheap enough, and all you really had to do was find and download an emulator. Who knows.
  11. If you mean first person shooters, I'm kinda partial to Crossbow or Hit N' Miss. Those are getting the most action on my MAME.
  12. My current favorite MAME games are: Major Havoc - Atari I, Robot - Atari Exterminator - Gottlieb/Premiere Q*bert - Gottlieb The Three Stooges - Gottlieb/Mylstar Chicken Shift - Bally/Sente Cosmic Chasm - Cinematronics Star Castle - Cinematronics
  13. My current favorite MAME games are: Major Havoc - Atari I, Robot - Atari Exterminator - Gottlieb/Premiere Q*bert - Gottlieb The Three Stooges - Gottlieb/Mylstar Chicken Shift - Bally/Sente Cosmic Chasm - Cinematronics Star Castle - Cinematronics
  14. That's STUN Runner. A great game that came out in 1989. I never beat it, but I had alot of fun trying. Grab yourself a copy of MAME, and find the ROM. It's a pain in the ass playing on a keyboard, but it's all yours.
  15. Okay, we got Atari's best coinops. Now I'm REALLY gonna get my video geek on and ask all the collectors out there for the best coinops from: Williams Gottlieb/Mylstar/Premier Bally/Midway Stern Exidy Cinematronics
  16. Major Havoc - Atari's best if not THE best vector game ever, especially for animation. It also has aged extremely well after 20 years. I, Robot - very original, very spacey, very underrated, which is too bad since it aged so well 20 years later. Tempest - right to the point, original idea, very hypnotic. A perfect example of the beauty of minimalism of vectors. STUN Runner - another that has aged extremely well, especially for a sit down racer. Battlezone - another that has aged extremely well for all of its minimalist and now almost primitive graphics. Quantum - another extremely underrated vector game. Another example of both graphic and play simplicity that has aged well. Another cult classic. Black Widow - one thing that you can only get from vectors is how everything looks electric. Another trance inducing game. Another very underrated game. Xybots - It shouldn't have taken this long to come up with a 3D take on Berzerk, but it's still a winner, and was also overlooked. Robot death sounds are hilarious. Okay, so I only have 8. They still count.
  17. Ok, so mame.dk is dead. I can deal....IF I can still find arcade ROMs to download. Any suggestions?

    mame.dk RIP?

Does anyone know what happened or what is going on at www.mame.dk? No matter what computer I use to get online, I can't get through. What's up?
  19. I remember the Salem Willows. Is it still there? All I'd have to do is hop the commuter rail and take a fifteen minute walk, and I'm there. I can't find any good arcades in Boston proper. Does anyone know of any ones with all the classics? arpwell@yahoo.com
  20. It also could be that 80s retro is the new thing now. When you get any retro craze, it always digs up all the artifacts that most people had forgotten about. I know it was one of my childhood possesions that I DIDN'T have. Now, I'm the only kid (32) on the block with one.
  21. I paid $50 for an unwrapped 7800 with two controllers, 2600 Berzerk and Reactor from a record store in Cambridge, MA. Not bad.
  22. All your arcade ports are safe bets. Granted some are better than others- I personally don't care for Pole Position, and Asteroids could have been better (like psuedo vectors.) Ballblazer is great, also.
  23. Pretty much all arcade ports to the 7800 are worth having. AVOID Jinks like the PLAGUE. I also found Super Huey kind of a pain in the ass. The only gripe about Donkey Kong is that the "pie factory" level is gone. I'm not one for sports, but I do enjoy Winter Games. I don't have a light gun, but Crossbow can be played with the joystick. You might want to check out some essential 2600 games in the forum if you haven't already done so.
  24. My top 5 7800 ports: Ballblazer Joust Rampage Robotron 2084 Food Fight My least: Jinks It was a great idea, too bad it's so aggrevating to play and so annoying to hear.
