  1. Very cool video. Intellivision was the first system I played since my dad had it. I just started collecting for it a year ago and am really enjoying it. I look forward to your pt II of this video.
  2. Had it for N64 and loved it. First play through was with my best friend using the old school taking turns playing method reserved for one player only games during Christmas break. I then replayed it twice in college. I have played all of the RE games and RE2 and 4 are my favorites. The remake on the GC was great too. Those crimson zombies are a pain, but makes it intense.
  3. boxpressed has a great informative guide. That aside, yard sales are usually a waste of time for certain systems as most people have off loaded or even thrown out older systems like that years ago. On Ebay, if you have patience and keep up on your watch list, you will find a good deal for one as jetset was kind enough to provide evidence of. A tested unit with no or broken controllers for a great price is almost ideal in my opinion because you will probably want or need a refurbished controller eventually.
  4. After some trouble shooting, it turned out to be the PS. I forgot at the time, but I have an Atari 5200 PS that I use for my Intellivision II. I plugged it into the switch box and the LED came on. The system is big, but I think it looks great along with the controllers. Since then I've put in a few hours and think it's a great system. I only have about 11 common games including: Jungle Hunt, Football, Star Raiders, Super Breakout, Pac Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, etc. The only game where I feel the controller is a real pain is Pac Man. Unfortunately, both of the controllers are missing the rubber boots so I'm unsure how much of a change that makes. The games I have are good so far, but I bought the system to play Fractalus, Gremlins, Pitfall II, Space Dungeon, Baseball, etc. Looking forward to adding those, Best refurb controllers, and a track ball in the future. I think that mods are very cool for A/V and controllers, but I personally prefer the original experience. Thanks for the responses and feedback; much appreciated.
  5. Toy: Yes, I am the original owner. My parents got it for me for Christmas along with Food Fight. Thanks for setting this thread up; very cool!
  6. Really bummed out about the 5200. Got it via UPS on time and hooked it up. Got the switch box and everything configured, hit the on/off and no power. Did the usual trouble shooting and still nothing. The power supply is in very shoddy condition with the wiring exposed badly at the base of the plug which of course the eBay seller did not mention. I'm guessing that's the issue or it's the switch box itself. Buyer said no returns, but also said it was in "working" condition which it isn't. Hopefully, I will get it sorted soon and get a working boxed four port.
  7. Thank you for the responses.
  8. Just got a CIB four port with some games off eBay last night. Very excited to test it out.
  9. OK, thanks. Makes perfect sense now.
  10. Where's the Phantasm homebrew? That looked awesome.
  11. I was just wondering what the opinion is for the Joypad controller for the 7800. I have a worn down Pro-Line which I'm not a big fan of and was wondering if the Joypad would be a better alternative than getting a new Pro-Line.
  12. boxpressed, I have read your blog several times in the past month. Great stuff! Look forward to any new sections of the buying guide (my favorite section).
  13. Nuclear, that is the exact adapter I am referring to. Does the switch box connect to that or does that cable at the top screw into the standard coaxial jack at the back of the TV like old cable box hook up?
  14. I currently have no need for the VCS adapter as I have a six switch 2600, 7800, and Atari 2600 Jr. that all work fine so that's not really a deal breaker. Appreciate the info though.
  15. Seems that Rick says "no" on the coax adapter and Zylon "yes." From this pic, it looks like you can't run an RF type wire from the antenna port to the coax jack http://4jays.net/store//media/5200swbox. I could be totally wrong though as I do not own one to get a real good look.
  16. So you can't use the coaxial adapters with the four port switch box? The converter gold one you screw into the cable jack in the back of a TV won't work? I use it for my 7800, 2600, and Intellivision and it works great.
  17. I hear you Rick, I'd love to get a XEGS.
  18. Interested to hear how those controllers pan out. Thanks for the game suggestions. I want the system mainly so I can play Gremlins, Baseball, Pitfall 2, Rescue on Fractalus, and Frogger II. Unfortunately, I may have to wait til Christmas as the eBay prices for the 5200 seem high lately.
  19. The controller issues have been a setback for me. I see 5200 systems going for around $70 or so with shipping on eBay and I know the controllers probably won't work well. In that probable case I will have to spend even more money on a refurbished controller. It ends up being an expensive proposition for the system.
  20. Thanks for all of the feedback. I think I'm going to go with the four port mainly because I think the four ports and switch box were unique to the 5200. Now I just have to find one!
  21. I've decided to cash in my father's day gift on either a 5200 or XEGS since I always wanted them both growing up (I had/still have a 2600 and 7800). For the 5200, I was wondering if I should try to acquire the original four port or two port. I am aware that the four utilizes the switchbox, possibly does not work with the VCS adapter, but plays all games. Which one is the preferred model for collectors? Is one more reliable? I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
