I hade the X-10 home control box on the TI back in the day. I forget who wrote the software but it worked well for controlling lights in the house. It might be easier today with our side car developments since those days so you wouldn't need the P-Box.

I remember way back when Bill Lucid was still running the Indianapolis BBS much talk was had about getting the TI to reboot itself when something happened but the TI was sitting waiting for carrier detect but the modem needed resetting or some glitch like that. Or a way for the TI to "hear" a software crash and reboot itself. Fun days.

I'm guessing your settings are for 80 col and you were testing with 80 col? The Reef is running an F18A if you need to adjust settings.

How did your test turnout atrax?

Hi Atrax, finally got a chance to throw some equipment together and the Reef is back up and seems to be running okay. I did not have time to diagnose the equipment that had been running 24/7 for decades so there is no 32k on the 16 bit buss or fast crystal but hopefully I will get the time to repair what went wrong and bring the speed we had all gotten used to soon. Yes, SW1 will have two selected "ON" but unfortunately I'm working and have nothing in front of me to rattle the old grey matter. You will know when SW1 is set right when you are in CONFIG and press the "N" next key because repeated pressing will show what both addresses are.

You are hitting the "Next" key while in the config program so you set up more than one address right? Each address gets formatted not just one address, right?

This is also done with two 4000's in the same P-Box for a total of 10meg storage. One card populated with 128k chips and a second card populated with 512k chips. My grey matter isn't what it used to be but I think it requires U1 and U2 to be populated with 74HC154 also SW1 must be set for this but I'm working and have nothing in front of me to go by but I think I remember SW1 settings in the 4000 manual. 10 megs of RAM disk is a beautiful thing.

I found the TI system that runs The Hidden Reef BBS had crashed one day last week. It's normally a rare occasion for the system to crash and usually the system runs 24/7 month after month and only crashes when a drive or some other piece of hardware dies. Of course when the Reef system does crash it's usually when I'm away on business or vacation time or as is currently the case we are working dawn to dark on my real job which is the same as being away from home. After performing some of the usual tests of the system RAM Disk ROS and other possible corrupted DSR problems. I reseated all the cards in the P-Box to see if that might correct the crashing problem. No improvement so I started removing cards from the P-Box one at a time to possibly expose a card that is the problem. After removing all but the fire hose card I happen to notice the third connector over from the fire hose card has the #1 tang bent over and under the IDE card that had been inserted in that slot. This particular P-Box had been running The Hidden Reef system for over twenty years. I have never had this happen to any P-Box before. Not sure if I bent the tang when I reinserted the cards or if the system had been running that way with the tang bent. Will have to install a new connector base and see if it solves the crashing problem. I guess there's a first time for everything.

I would just like to add to what the insane one has posted we really hope those that take on a broken Geneve have experience soldering/desoldering and tracing circuits point to point. For those that get a board and you find the PAL and/or gate array are fried please contact the insane one or preferably myself since I have the gate arrays and we'll make these limited parts available to you. I would make a suggestion and a tip to you all to just automatically refresh the power supply circuits with new regulators, electrolytics and don't forget the heat sinks. Standard practice is to replace the 16v electrolytics with 35v max. Take care when placing heat sinks that you don't contact a pad that may be close to the area of the heat sink. I have attached a pic of what a refreshed Geneve with the 64k fast RAM and video upgrade looks like to wet your appetites.

Don't forget to remove the resistor pack from drive one.

You remind me that WHT had been selling this PAL at one time. I wonder if Jeff White would recall what it actually did to help the Geneve video?
