1. A good job was done in explaining what it was, but without losing us technically inefficient people that had heard of this for years, but didn't know exactly what it was Any idea what the game Astro Fighter had to do with DECO, exactly? Because you can see the DECO name in the upper right hand corner of most of the A. Fighter screens.
2. (laughs) Did YOU? I didn't, but the name did make me twinge a bit. But if it *was* a Frenzy game, I'm sure it would've blown away the dull Berzerk port. Yeah, but I'm sure once it's day of release hits Dondzila will have pics up in the video's place, or maybe both. BTW--and I hate to ask--what's this Vib Ribbon game that was mentioned earlier? That's a new one to me.
3. Not that I have anything against Dondzila or anything--I've got two of his cartridges so far, and I'll be getting more in the future, including this one--but I was a little disappointed to find out what this one was, due to how big Gravitrex was, with the regular and arcade modes, the re-write of Patriots included, etc., and especially with how many games there are on Vecmania and Vectopia. This one doesn't seem real "big", you know? Granted, it's probably has more than one game, as per usual, unless it's just Space Fury with several variations (like with Gravitrex). It's probably still a good game though, as per Dondzila usual, but I was just expecting more. (Guess I'll have to wait for the reviews.)
4. I think it's the other way round. That randomisation is totally bogus for a highscore contest. I usually lose lives in levels 13-14 and higher, so basically my score so far is just a series of good luck. (2-3 hard levels in a row and I'm busted.) Greetings, Manuel 992768 That's just it, I played difficulty level 5 and every time I hit reset, I ended up with the same starting level. It was hard, no matter how many times I played. There was nothing random about it. It was just a hard level all around. 993379 It always STARTS on the same level (17, I think), then it's random after that. Ze_ro, you owe me two more points for making over 75,000.
5. Oh lordy. That game had a LOT of secret bonuses. *like you said, finishing a wave in a certain order is one *during a wave when spaceships/whatever move in a horizontal line, if you destroy them all before they reach the edge of the screen, that's a bonus (using Warp is mandatory here!) *during docking, if you don't use the directional buttons, you get a bonus *ditto for the "paint scraper" bonus if you brush against a docking arm without gettting destroyed *many more other than the above I can't remember
6. I kinda like the Cannibal Corpse version from their Hammer Smashed Face e. p. myself. Gospeede (sp?), try it on game 1 for a while, it's one of THE best games ever made for the 2600. I made it to a million back "in the day", but then when you go back to a game you haven't played in years and years...heh. Lets just say with the computer monitor going out (shrinks to half the size, and the new computer won't be here 'til next Friday), and the actual cartridge in itself is buried (need to get organized), this'll probably be it for me, since it took a couple of days to get here as it was: 167,085 Tips: *Get familiar with the wonky controls, in regards to dismounting from a raft (takes about 1 1/2-2 seconds when pushing up), hovering (ditto), etc., since they CAN be difficult. *Play, play, PLAY! The more you play, the more familiar you'll become with the levels, and the bigger a bonus you'll get with more energy remaining at the end of the level.
7. Nope, neither game has an ending. A guy on this page here has planned to change Major Havoc around and give it an ending, but I don't know if he ever did or not (guess I'll go download it once I get done looking around aa.com ).
8. I could do better if I had this game myself; the keys don't respond real well in emulation, and I haven't had much time for this game this week (/weak? ). Oh well.
9. Ah ok, just didn't read that correctly. Carry on... Nice that you were able to get it for free though! Despite no overlays.
10. What, Mine Storm doesn't work? Or are you just new to the system? Just turn the Vectrex on without a cartridge in it, and Mine Storm should come up
11. I picked up Rockaroids *and* VecMania, because I like Asteroids, and the version Mark Shaker is selling is significantly different (easier to get to a game of Asteroids, for one thing, since you don't have to go through the menus, and the asteroids don't rotate, which makes it more arcade-like, though I do think the rotating asteroids are cool...). 968000 Actually, those *ARE* two different versions (thanks for mentioning that...); the version on Vecmania is the third version, the one the other guy sells is the second...which is also on John Dondzila's All Good Things cartridge. That cartridge also comes with Vectris (Tetris, obviously), Spike's Water Balloons (like Kaboom!, but you can kick a few of the balloons back up!), More Invaders (Space Invaders Part 2), and a fifth hidden game. Also $22, and probably worth it, as usual (I don't have it yet). And I'd put in a second vote of that Vectrex avatar as to being Zappa...even if it's not him, though, it's still cool
12. Yeah, that happens a bit with the HSC Good thing, too! Made the attached score a few nights ago, but hadn't gotten back into it since; probably be my final...
13. Interesting e-mail. And the prices for their boxed 7800 games are OUTRAGEOUS.
14. Yes, I hate those too It's just good to know you're close to starting it over, though, once you make it to that part in the game... Another tip: Stay alert, Part 2: stay aware of the demons' flight patterns, since, at times, they can swoop low and high...try to stay away from them when they're going to swoop very close to the surface, as you'll have a smaller chance of dodging their fire then, and a greater chance of being hit.
15. No kidding, Spike and Bedlam are fairly rare nowadays. I'm all green with envy (I've got Bedlam though, at least) Yeah, it was one of the last (I think) batch of games that came out, like Bedlam, Spike, Spinball, Fortress of Narzod, etc.
16. The Supercharger works fine with the second model, and the first one only needs a simple modification. You can see how to do that here. It only takes a few minutes. My Supercharger and Robot Tank has worked fine ever since
17. Yeah, if it actually IS fun and intense, the guy could have come up with a better demo video: it looks like the enemies come down the screen only one at a time, yet with two of them, he shoots and misses! And you can hardly hear the sound effects either...ok, so he probably doesn't have decent enough equipment to get a clearer-looking demo with sound on the net, but he could have made it at least LOOK more exciting (unless the game *is* as boring as it looks ). Yeah, I mean, it's been a good year for the Vectrex, there's been three new games this year alone as it is!
18. I was thinking it was the MATTEL Football game, but I could be wrong on that one.
19. The only thing I'd steer clear of on that site is Birds of Prey and Rockaroids. No, not that those games stink or anything, but at $10 apiece (plus whatever postage is), you're better off just sending John Dondzila $22 to get Birds of Prey, Rockaroids Remix: Third Rock, Patriots Remix, Vector Vaders Remix, Star Fire Spirits, Repulse, the demos (still playable though) of Abyss and Deadly Discs AND a hidden bonus game on top of all that for the one cartridge of Vecmania! It's definitely worth it, and most of the games are fairly hard, making for pretty decent replay value. Oh, and welcome to the great world of Vectrex homebrewing and all, Gulag P. R.!
20. Should be interesting, never played this on Dif. A before Tips: *Try to stay away from the corners, they could mean death if you get trapped by demon fire! *STAY ALERT. Once you get killed, be ready to move the instant your next bunker appears onscreen.
21. The gameplay was fine on the latter two (never played Sagaia, so I can't comment on that one), but there was NO excuse that Taito could not have made two player games out of both. So that makes those games a bit "middle ground" to *me*
22. Yeah, I wasn't very impressed with that either when I rented it. Not much to it... Someone mentioned Acclaim earlier and their bad games, one of which was called WarpSpeed. Yawwwwwn. Looked pretty cool on the box cover, but they screwed up the execution pretty good, just a boring cockpit-viewed space shooter. One game variation was called "blackout", where most of the grids of your galactic map (or whatever) were blank, and you had to fly from grid area to grid area to grid area to try to flush out the enemy ships. I had one game go on for about two HOURS when I got a communicade from a scientist ragging on me that the ship he designed wasn't for sector hopping, so go destroy the ships already and finish your mission, or some blah blah. I quit the game then, I had gone through the entire batch of grids and couldn't find all of the enemy! (I guess they kept on moving, doing better than *I* could to keep myself from falling asleep while playing it.)
23. Uh, I don't see a score in that screenshot. --Zero 950131 I see a 15,290 950135 Yeah, he's right: 15,290
24. Not much competition this week -- too hard for me on the keyboard (oh well, just another one that I'll have to buy ) -- as I got this score several nights ago, but have yet to post it; I haven't had much time to play.
