  1. I know it can be done, because I asked Steven in an e-mail and he told me I could send mine in. He said he'd do it for the same price as the 800XL, it was just a little trickier and that he didn't have instructions handy for posting to the site. I never ended up getting it done. Maybe some day...
  2. I've seen a couple of those on ebay before, both of them shipping from South America (somewhere). I wonder if they were some sort of "standard" computer over there...(?)
  3. I got an adapter via ebay that switches the brown and yellow wires within. Universal switcheroo from ST to Amiga or vice-versa without having to open up the mouse. I think it came from somewhere in Europe and only cost about $8 USD.
  4. I know... they have the best intention, but... :/
  5. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but that is their excuse/reasoning... they don't want the serial number traced back to them somehow. Ugh... it's not like a someone using a PC formerly owned by said company to hack into a remote system and cause problems; it's a TV/monitor! Data goes into it one way! Maddening, this...
  6. The idea is that my company doesn't want the serial # traced back to them... I guess they are terrified of the notion that a huge CRT would go onto my desk (over the support legs, of course) and that they would somehow be implicated in the display of Mr. Do!, Fort Apocalypse & Atari Writer in the privacy of my home office.
  7. Unfortunately, it's in a crate, inside the building and we have cameras everywhere. Argh!
  8. I may just have to do that! Thanks!
  9. OK, I just asked the IS guy in charge of e-waste and it's a 42" CRT. Not only that, there are two of them they are throwing out, each having only about 200 hours of use on them. I think I'm going to be sick.
  10. I haven't specifically asked about that TV, but I have asked about things that have gone in there before and it's a strict company policy. On second glance, it looks like it might be a 27", which makes it even more desirable to me. I'll make do with my 1701. Life is still pretty darned good, just sad to see such a beautiful thing go to waste!
  11. I saw a 32" Sony Trinitron CRT TV in a recycle crate, knowing fully well that it is in perfect working order and is being replaced by an LCD. I imagined any of my A8's hooked up to it and that monster staring back across the desk at me and wanted to cry. I can't take it home, or I'll get fired. Dang... Can someone please cheer me up?
  12. Nice! I'll be looking for it! I'd love to see it in action up close.
  13. When replacing the power supply, I'd get the rebuildable one from Best Electronics. $20 vs. $15 for the stock one.
  14. I'll go out on a limb here and say that I had good luck with BASF, Bitbank, Verbatim and 3M. I had many others as well, but those stand out in memory. I abused them by the dozens on 8-bit Ataris, Apple ][s, Commodores, etc. I seem to remember the Bitbank and BASF disks being particularly sturdy.
  15. Lotharek would probably do it just for the challenge (he is awesome that way)!
  16. I know it took him a while (2-3 weeks) to ship something that I ordered from him in January and he told me that he's really far behind from both the Christmas rush and the fact that he is testing everything before it goes out. Being that he's a good guy and I've never had a problem before, I told him not to worry and to take his time (I was ordering some spare parts, so it was nothing I needed right then and there). Everything went through just fine and my stuff showed up all the same.
  17. Oooh, yes! I'd be very interested and I bought the Gold Edition as well. At least I believe I did... I still haven't had the heart to tear it open and look (I've been meaning to request a disk image and play that)!
  18. I used to have various ][+, //e and //gs systems over the years, but my favorite was: Enhanced //e Ramworks II w/256K Two Disk ][ drives Grappler ][+ parallel card Apple Super Serial card Apple Hi-Speed SCSI card I was always on the lookout for that elusive Mockingboard or Phasor, but never ended up with one. Now, I have an iLamp that just runs Virtual ][ all the time. My current setup is: iMac G4 (800MHz) w/768MB RAM, OS 10.4 (Tiger) and a 32GB solid state drive running as an: Enhanced //e w/256K RAM Two Disk ][ drives Mockingboard (stereo) Not perfect, but it'll do for now...
  19. As I understand it, the latest run of Incognito boards have begun shipping out. I am wondering if anyone ordered extra boards, just to see the run happen. If so, would you sell me one? I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Many thanks!
  20. You could check ebay, too. Although the shipping might kill you. I got lucky last year and found a guy selling six boxes of 1000 sheets each (five boxes were still tied, one was open, so I have slightly fewer than 6000 sheets) on ebay for $40 and he was only a 1 hour drive from me! I snatched it right up because no one wanted to pay for the shipping on it (I wouldn't).
  21. I haven't done it yet, but I am setting my 600XL aside for long road trips. I have one of those little 7" LCD's with a composite input that straps to the back of the headrest. My 600XL has 64K and a monitor port, so now I just need to figure out how to power it... Gotta stock up on cartridge games, too... darn it! I'm not going to want to drive!
  22. Nice! I'm waiting to see if there are any Incognitos left from this run anyway, so this just got a little more awesome!
  23. FJC: Kudos on the progress you are making with this project! I love reading the updates and am looking forward to the day when you feel it will be ready for us to play with. I have a question for you and it's a bit of a stretch (least of your worries right now, I know), but do you plan have support for joystick ports #3 & #4 (on the 400/800) later on? It'd be pretty handy to have a mouse plugged in to one of those ports and not have to sacrifice a joystick port or use a joystick/mouse switch box. Just curious... Thanks!
