  1. Agreed, I saw it yesterday and posted about it in the G-1 thread.  It is a magnificent film!  I've been watching YT content about the film today, and it got me thinking (I've heard others say this too) - the film is Godzilla, but at times it also had a Jaws feel to it.  And a little bit of a Jurassic Park feeling - on Odo Island in particular.   Spielberg.  I wouldn't be surprised if the director was purposely influenced by Spielberg, especially Jaws.

But I am also curious of course to know what additional changes you might in store for the Koffi redux?

It depends on what I can fit in 32K, I have more ideas than will fit, that much is for sure.    Part of the fun is seeing what I can accomplish in the same 32K size.  I got rid of the end-credits names for this reason.  So far, I've fixed several bugs from the OG game, and I've needed to rewrite (improve) various routines and tables to even get to implementing the fun changes.    I'm working on the Koloring Book Feature to make it more usable.

My main objective is to create a 2-player simultaneous mode.  It needs some work before I reveal it, it is still buggy and I've been attacking other more fun things.

Also I want to freshen-up the visuals, this is the part I'm working on currently.      There are also gameplay tweaks planned.   Hitting fire/fireball may not always immediately kill Koffi but might consume his water and knock him back.  You won't have to hit Pyro as many times as in the OG, but there may be worse lightning and fireball attacks.     On the title screen, I will probably get rid of the difficulty settings and the ability to choose any stage.    Instead, it will be more coin-op-like - you can start at level 1, 2, or 3 - with bonus points awarded if you choose advanced levels.

Once a few more 1-player mode changes are wrapped up, I'll make a thread in the Homebrew section to release the ROM and ask for folks to try it and provide feedback!

  3. Hey Chris.  I can see how your situation can make you frustrated and depressed.  But consider changing your perspective.  Atari era homebrew gaming is a small niche.  There  aren't a lot of people paying attention to any homebrews.   So any exposure your games get, be thankful for it and enjoy reading or rewatching that content.   Sure there are more and more 2600 and 7800 games that are sold in the AA store. But think about it, but who knows how many copies are being purchased and actually played.   And how many are being bought by the same 20 to 50 people who always buy a new homebrew.  My point being, I would not assume your games are always ignored while every one else's games are super popular within the community.  It wasn't long ago that a ZPH episode featured Uncle Harry's Nosehair, which was hilarious and a hit! And they tried out your older game Jack and the Beanstalk too.   Come on, seeing your game being played live on Twitch and forever kept on YT should give you tremendous satisfaction!

I know you've made a ton of little homebrew games on various retro systems.  I don't even know what they are , and not just yours, I can't keep track of all the various projects out there. Is there a list of your games somewhere?  If not, why not create a blog entry with that list, pointing to other blogs one for each game?  You could even bundle the roms and call it The [your name] Collection.  It might be more visible to have that content be it's own thread in the Homebrew forum,  because based on views, I think many AA users never check out the blogs.

Concerning the quality of your games, I'd say if you are happy with it, it should be good enough, as long as it isn't glitchy and is fair and playable.  Look at popular franchises like Madden and Halo, there are many gamers who have never enjoyed those games and refuse to play them. The same will happen with homebrew games, some will dig them and some will think they are crappy. We homebrew enthusiasts just gotta live with that.  But remember that nice graphics and sounds very much attract attention, more than gameplay, at least at first.  The other thing that attracts attention is when the homebrewers make a port of a beloved existing game.  They have a built in audience.  When you make a unique, new original game idea, probably only the hard core gamers with lots of free time are going to notice it, unless it has great fresh graphics to catch their eye. And making great graphics on 2600 is pretty tough.

    Hope your mood brightens soon.

  4. I'd like to see a review after you've brushed up on the instructions!  In a nutshell, you can't put out the fire but can only keep the fire at bay until you defeat the stormcloud. You do this by bumping into him, carefully watching his lightning attack timing so you don't get blasted. Then he disappears and you then can completely douse the fire.

  5. I didn't realize SEGA started to omit Sonic 3 / Sonic & Knuckles / Sonic 3 & Knuckles from compilations. I have this same x360 compilation and it is AWESOME. I love the coin-op games like Zaxxon that are extras.  I also own the Genesis collection on PS4 - different interface for this one (its like you are in a bedroom with a shelf and CRT), and a few different games.  Since I've played heaps of Sonic3/ Knuckles in the past, I didn't search out those titles on the PS4 version so didn't notice.     Anyway, it has got me wondering why on earth SEGA would blacklist 2 of its best Genesis games.

  6. It's all gone, for the most part, although I saved a few things (like 10%).  Most of it was my notes which even I don't want to reread those!

But also for example, I found the letter/email you sent me about your talking to Kristen from Atari about allowing us to use the Adventure name, with caveats. And I found some emails and documents about all the PCB's and caps etc I bought for the first 100 Koffi's.  It looked like several of us at AA went in together and ordered a group order of 5200 PCB's from Joe Grand.  I had forgotten all those details.

  7. My wife ordered scissors and clippers when this started. I was hoping for a postal debacle and that these would never be delivered. But they did come. She has never cut my hair so who knows what I'll look like.  My hair poker straight with a little bit of feathering, not curly at all.  I'll get her to practice on my son first!

Anyway, your  "after"  / shaved beard pic, you look insanely outraged that your hair has been cut! HA HA!  :D

  8. Agreed about those excellent pads.

I'm not a big RPG gamer, but I did own and played through both Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III bitd, but sold them off at great profit eventually. Now as you'd expect, I sometimes wish I still owned them.    Oh well, there are other games for me to enjoy on Saturn.  Plus I can go on YT and watch long plays of these games and enjoy them that way.

  9. I guess my glass is half full.  I take what they give me and try to enjoy it, and although I also enjoyed much in TLJ, I found TRoS to be a much more rewarding and fun film, so I am satisfied with it.  Your criticisms seem valid, from a certain point of view. :) but I agree with the statement that it's the whole trilogy that is disjointed, not just ep9.

So I'm sorry you were so underwhelmed my this one. Mee-sa gonna buy it on the Blu Ray disc someday!  I actually didn't start to truly love TFA until I watched it at home so maybe that will happen with ep9 too.

    Ep7 > Ep9 >> Ep8.

  10. I started to watch the Mandalorian (excellent!), and also tried out the animated Star Wars Resistance show.  I really don't think  I can enjoy the youth-skewed Resistance show. So far it is far less appealing than Clone Wars or Rebels.

After a decade of Marvel MCU films monopolizing my interest, it is nice to do a film viewing palette cleanse with Star Wars shows.
