I think so too. Still it's not the usual nintendo mascot derivative (and looks good on HDTV) so for that I say it's worth checking out. Yes your usual nintendo fanboy responses are getting repetitive. Talk about touchy. You make it so easy I don't even have to try

Dreamcast problem has me stumped.
Dones replied to Mr_8bit_16bit's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
My Dreamcast has the "controller not recognized", battery problem, and the overheating "random reset" problem but I am too busy to fix it myself. Oh and it's turning more and more yellow every day... -
I got this game with my gamecube purchase (before becoming disappointed with the system). I think it's a nice racer with a hard challenge and a tad too much focus on the weather as a technical feature. I wouldn't recommend Serena as your first racer because she can get easily knocked off the watersky at the slightest touch of an opponent. If you can get her far away from this problem, then her extra handling will make you win races easily (but it takes a different kind of driving). My favorite was Akari Hayami. Her extra acceleration proved handy in many occasions. The game is harder than the N64 version. N64 veterans have to basically start from scratch re-learning the controls. The game can be unforgiving at times but once you get past the learning curve it's all good. The use of turbo is very strict. Use it at the wrong place and you'll quickly start losing your position in the game. Learning to use the weather to your advantage is critical. Some tracks are easier if you know which weather conditions to ride them (and not necessarily in good weather). I don't know if this bugged anyone but the beginning play hours the game spends a lot of time waiting for the game for read and save lap scores to the memory card. This can be annoying at first because it happens frequently between every race. As you reach your gaming peak it will stop doing it. The commentator's voice can be a tad annoying also (but thankfully you can lower the voice volume). The game is starting to show some age but if you got a home theater equipment and the GC component cable, then you are in for a treat. If only Nintendo would have released more games like this instead of the usual primary colored mario spin offs. :sigh:

Never thought of Raystorm being underappreciated, but it certainly got ignored during the days of PS1 (overshadowed by Einhander). Personally I think it's a great game and recommend it to anyone who likes Taito shmups. Raycrisis on the other hand isn't that great. If it wasn't appreciated it was with good reason (or maybe it's just me). Would really like to know what other fans of the series feel about this. Crystalis rocks man. Recommended to anyone who likes NES Zelda. In that same vein I also add Magic of Schereharazade (however it is spelled). A nice adventure/rpg hybrid with mediocre graphics but nice gameplay.

Try the Logitech Rumblepad. You might have to pay a bit more but it's worth it. Alternatively try a USB adapter for your favorite console pad. If you live in the US, visit http://www.jandaman.com/ (or try ebay) for purchase options.

How Do I Make the Most Money Selling Video Games?
Dones replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So that's why you were asking all those repetitive questions a couple of months back. You'll already got some answers, but like before, I suggest you use the search feature as this topic has been discussed many times before. -
Who's Preordering Beggar Prince for Genesis?
Dones replied to 8th lutz's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Don't be so critical he is only being enthusiastic. -
These news shows promising things, but I am sure Nintendo will manage to shoot itself in the foot or fumble the ball somehow (ie, forcing users to pay a questionable fee, buy a special adapter or software, time or library limited virtual library). Didn't NOA did a similar survey for the GBA nes releases?

Not "might" but "have". Seriously though, the violence in the game is more artistical than gratitous. Then again this game is clearly marked "M" and is clearly not meant for kids. The game's content are tame in comparison with GTA. The game makes no excuses about the main character or his motivations. Actually figuring out the spartan's motivations is part of the story. Most of the time you are brawling greek mythology inspired monsters. When you are not doing that, then you are solving moderately challenging puzzles or watching short cutscenes. The gameplay is tight and the graphics look great.

Back in the day I had a 3rd party rumble pack/mem card hybrid. I bought it new from ebay and it was a hong kong generic brand. The unit had four times the capacity of a normal n64 memcard. I remember it had a small switch for selecting which of the four 'virtual memcards' you wanted to use. It worked on 2 AA batteries (for the rumble feature) and it did its job pretty well. I don't think these hybrids were popular because I never saw them sold again after the third year or so of the console. You know I used to think the same, but a while ago I learned that there were actually a couple of save types. Quoting a FAQ from a old n64 site:

Yeah qtips and alcohol is probably the best and most inexpensive way of cleaning your cart connectors. Alternatively you can use a plastic eraser to rub the dirt out of the contacts. This method gives a more thorough clean because it can remove that stubborn dirt that qtips can't but it requires you purchase a security bit to open your carts. For the actual 72-pin connector I use a combination of compressed air with a cleaning kit. A general purpose foam cleaner like Tuff Stuff is also useful for the cleaning the plastic case. For removing stickers and marker stains Goo Gone is probably the best.

It's pretty good. The game really earns the "M" rating.

With the use of an HDLoader or HDadvance game discs you can make and run backup copies of your games from the hard drive (no ps2 modification required). You can't do online with this method but loading times are dramatically reduced.

Of course, but we are talking about psx games. Soul Blade is the granddaddy of Soul Calibur and it was a great game back then. If the game had been crap, do you think namco would have bothered with the calibur sequels? Different strokes for different folks. I don't think Raycrisis is a great game either. Raystorm on the other hand is much better. Anyway you know how picky shmups fans usually are.

Would you consider Zelda a "hardcore" game? Primary colored and "graphics are not important" games designer Miyamoto seems to think so, according to a recent interview in Maxim magazine. Maybe he was trying to appeal to the Maxim crowd? Here is quote from this link:

Yes the show used to be so varied. Now the host mostly talks and reviews games about Nintendo. I just skip the fanboy sections in my player. The interviews are still great to hear. That's why I prefer VGNews radio. They don't rant and keep their comments fairly balanced across all modern platforms.

Most of these are podcasts, but you can also get them on shoutcast, live365 or download them as well. There are many more of them out there, so if you would like to share your favorite show let the forum know. * 8bit memories - The shortest and most impromptu of all shows I have heard. The host only talks about 8 bit games and has a sense of humor very similar to that other gaming host, seanbaby. * Retro gaming radio - The host is extremely opinionated and tends to rant a lot, but he does some very interesting interviews with people in the industry. * Videogame News Radio - This is one of the best shows imo. They keep it entertaining and very balanced between modern consoles. * GamingSteve - The show's jingle will probably make you cringe, but the content is very good. A very good insider take on the industry with a lot of depth in the news and some business aspects * GoNintendo - For Nintendo only commentary. * Dreamstation.cc - Audio quality could be better, but it's still entertaining.

I am surprised no one has mentioned "Superman 64".

I don't know. I wouldn't dismiss Ms. Pac-Man just because it's a girl. According to Steven L. Kent's book, "The First Quarter", Ms. Pac-Man sold more arcade cabinets than Pac-Man. I can only imagine the many bored girlfriends who went play Ms. Pac Man while they boyfriends were playing the more 'manly' games. The fact it attracted girls means Ms. Pac Man influenced a broader, bigger audience than plain Pac Man.

Not only that, but the dust created by the grinding accumulates enough to impair stick movement. You can always open the closed stick compartment and clean the grind dust with a small brush or can of air. Maybe apply some small amount of lubricant to the stick. You can buy stick replacements on ebay. These auctions never tell you they are used, but they are just cleaned sticks taken from used controllers. Not exactly the best solution, but at least it is something. Nintendo still sells new N64 controllers, though it is expensive.

I can understand your moving on to other projects. I'll be honest to say though I was disappointed to see kaillera fail with PCAE. Anyway kaillera has become more of a online network for fighting games so I don't think many people would have used the feature. It is difficult to find people willing to play old games.

I am somewhat surprised Soul Blade hasn't got too much mention, considering how popular it's Soul Calibur successor is. Someone mentioned Raystorm just recently. That's a pretty near arcade perfect port. I always liked the music (has two soundtracks to choose from) and the co-op play. If you are into importing or peer networks then try also zanacXzanac (for compile fans only).

I say go for Castle of Illusion. Except for Miracle World, most Alex Kidd games sucked.
