  1. I don't know. I always thought that game was a system showcaser. Thanks to Lucasarts the gamecube actually had a next-gen game to show (back then). Now that you mention it, other than Metroid Prime (and that was a 2nd party effort), Zelda TP might be the only 1st party title were Nintendo has actually bothered to push the Gamecube's technical limits. Maybe that's the real reason it's being delayed. Usually games at the end on a generation get pushed on to the next (ie, Eternal Darkness), but rarely (if any) do you see a publisher holding a game just to make it work with an unreleased console. The revolution details of TP are exciting news for anyone following the small informational crumbs Nintendo drops from the table. If the article is to be true then is also shows Nintendo's already phasing out the gamecube. Not that it should surprise anyone considering how underwhelming 2005 was for the gamecube. The GC has always had its problems like lack of third party support (and when they do get it support it's usually the crappiest version) or the lack of online play. Now it's the future lineup. Not at all, but then again Nintendo fanboys always take everything too personally. I have been stumped on even how to reply to this for an hour now. This has got to be the worst comparison I have ever seen in my time here. I agree that is really a bad, bad comparison.
  2. No but you are obviously intent into flaming this thread (and a moderator none the less).
  3. Oh you can tell that just by looking. You know, now that you mention it: it is smaller than your average racing cabinet, but it is still an arcade racing cab (very similar to the same cab design Crazi Taxi used [if you've seen that one]).
  4. I guess that's up to you. When I tought I had seen everything in the game, I would later find out something new, like for example: 2nd buddy? as an unlockable? You have to refresh my memory because I don't remember any cheat that referred to that specifically. I did however had an enemy turn my friend. Only happened once while playing the submarine level "Pelagic". The way it happened was cool: I was sneaking an through the "don't let the alarm-setting-off guy see you" part when the alarm guy saw me. He was away from the nearest alarm so he turned his back and started running towards it. There were two more guys at the corridor. I ran to catch up with and killed him before he could activate the alarm. Now I had the other guards firing at me. I manage to kill one, but the guy left was behind me. When I turned around my insticts told me to shoot him, but I didn't. He had his gun pointed straight at Joanna's head, but wasn't firing! I stared at his gun barrel for a couple of seconds to later realize he was following me. He even help me taking out some of his buddies later down the road. It was so weird and not knowing about this game behavior made it a welcome surprise. I googled the net in search for information of this occurence. I found months later people reporting the same. Supposedly the enemy can turn friend under specific situations, but that's all I know. I have never been able to trigger it again.
  5. This might not suprise many. According to UK's NGC magazine it's not because it wasn't finished. It wasn't for polishing reasons nor for extra level additions. It's because Nintendo wanted to make the game Revolution compatible. While the game is supposedly still on track for a cube release, the article says the game will be released close to Revolution's release date. Could this possibly hint that Nintendo will delay the game further or make it a Revolution exclusive? The positive side for Revolution fans is the stuff you will be able to do differently with the quirky controller. On the other side news like these only helps to cement the idea of the gamecube already dead status. Assuming all this stuff is true: It's unfortunate to see the game put on hold for gamecube owners because Nintendo wants to milk, erm, make it a Revolution title also.
  6. I think the main problem with the game is that it shows its flaws first before you get to the good stuff (like the battle system perks you mentioned). If the graphics or childlike dialogue doesn't put you off before that then you miss out. Those who aren't Nintendo fanboys but still want to play the game will have get used to the game's style and slow progression. Maybe not a big deal but the game isn't instantly enjoyable. For that reason I think the game is not crap, but not triple-A either. A definite rent before you buy.
  7. This sentence stuck out like a sore: Made me wonder what the reviewer was expecting. There is a definite sarcastic tone in this review. I'll bet if his peers accepted the NEX as "cool" he would be singing to a different tune. JR I dismiss that as the recent pop culture fad. Like someone else said, the reviewer is trying to sound witty and appeal to a different crowd.
  8. LOL after I wrote it I realized how long it was. If you think perfect agent is hard, then try beating the goals for the unlockable cheats. Some cheats you may have already unlocked just by playing normally, but others are devilishly clever or frustrating! Unlocking those will extend the gameplay considerably. If you got this far in Perfect Dark, then try finding the hidden cheese pieces in the levels. You will be amazed at the obvious places the level designers placed them (and wonder how you always missed them).
  9. Years ago before USB someone made a circuit that would let you connect a N64 pad to your pc's parallel port with the back then popular DirectPadPro's drivers. Anyway what's the name of your adapter?
  10. LOL I wrote a long post thinking you were referring to the final level. Yeah War is hard to beat. There is a lot of luck involved. Just set your weapon to secondary fire and keep a steady progress. Never stop in one place for too long, just keep walking. Go for head shots on the skedar whenever possible.
  11. Might as well plug this link: http://madrigal.retrogames.com/ Has simulated versions of many of those collectable 80's handhelds. worth checking out.
  12. I don't think this pertains to the poster's problem but it never hurts to try. These are the switches I use with the stella 2.0.1 from the command line: -joymouse 1 -sound 1 -channels 2 -fullscreen 1 -video gl -gl_aspect 1.65 -gl_fsmax 1 Maybe playing with the gl_aspect number will allow you to adjust the graphics to your HDTV. The 1.65 setting works great for my normal TV using my video card's tv output. Another idea to try would be using a 640 by 480 (480p or i) resolution.
  13. According to the reuters link, the numbers are from units sold.
  14. I got the chance to see one at the local teather in my city. It looks like a graphically upgraded version of the gamecube title (you can tell Namco was in charge of this port). The karts and tracks are different. The camera point of view is closer to the player as opposed to double dash. The game is as bright and primary colored as DD. The gameplay goes faster than DD. When you start the game you are given the chance to have your picture taken. Depending on what nintendo/namco mascot you choose the game super imposes a hat, wig, etc on your picture. Your picture is shown in the order roster as you play. Funny thing the teenagers I saw play could care less about this feature and would just press the buttons repeatedly in an attempt to skip it. I think fans of the series will like it, if only to experience the game's different tracks, characters and playing it with a racing wheel/pedals.
  15. We all know how the handheld competition is going so far. Nintendo is enjoying great success with about 9 million DS'es sold. Sony reports having sold about 6 million PSP's. We all heard about PSP's problems like slow load times, loss of product focus (movie/game player) and high price. Still it is doing way better than the ngage. So what do you think Sony should do? Should they lower the price on their unit? Get more games out? Also for those at the Nintendo camp: what do you think Big N should do to keep their lead? More wifi games? (mario thisgame, mario thatgame, f-zero ds, pokemon ds stadium?). Tell us what you think.
  16. It still the same typical title-slapping, mascot derivative, money milking practice Nintendo is so well known for. It's no wonder why mario derivatives do so well considering in this case this metroid cash-in was quoted as "the best themed pinball game".
  17. Yes this game should have been a kid's book instead. It really hurts it, specially at the beginning because it makes the initial part of the game slower than it really is. It does pick up the pace a bit (if you are willing to plow through). Still it's not for everyone.
  18. Guess you'll have to get a different adapter or controller. The Adaptoid is very pricey, but is worth it.
  19. I think you might be right. Have you tried: * using the adapter with it's own drivers (if it has any)? * using the adapter without them (so windows just assigns the default HID settings) * On your emulator (which one is it?): Use a different controller plugin? There is one called "Nrage" or similar which works pretty well. You should post this question at the emutalk.net forums which is devoted to N64 emulation. In there you probably will have more luck finding a solution to your problem. Be sure to check out the plugin section for controller plugins. Good luck!
  20. Smart Santa! Unlike the nintendo with the gamecube, the PS2 enjoys strong Sony support. PS2 doesn't suffer from game droughts like the gamecube does. Your family won't have a lack of titles to choose from with plenty of games being released periodically. You will get lots of sequels from but at least they won't be a copy and paste job like the mario parties and other mario milk-ins. Sure not all titles will be great, but you will have variety! You won't be limited to a predominant kiddie game library like the gamecube does. About the ps1 compatibility question, you can learn more at the ps2 hardware faq section at www.gamefaqs.com.
  21. I used to play UT2004 (onslaught mode) but got frustated. No matter how much I practiced I always got my butt kicked. I don't expect to win all the time but losing all the time sucks also. Now I am playing Star Wars Battlefront 2. This one feels a bit more balanced (ie, prevents people from switching teams, no worthless weapons, timed re-spawns etc). Jedi's powers are capped so that at least it gives a chance for non jedi characters to kick their butts (although they are still pretty powerful).
  22. I bought a copy last year from a guy in europe. Obviously the graphics are of less quality than on the genesis, but I was still impressed by the port effort.
  23. http://www.pbs.org/kcts/videogamerevolutio...pact/myths.html An interesting piece about videogame myths and why they are false. The author tries to debunk the following myths: 1. The availability of video games has led to an epidemic of youth violence. 2. Scientific evidence links violent game play with youth aggression. 3. Children are the primary market for video games. 4. Almost no girls play computer games. 5. Because games are used to train soldiers to kill, they have the same impact on the kids who play them. 6. Video games are not a meaningful form of expression. 7. Video game play is socially isolating. 8. Video game play is desensitizing. Check it out.
  24. Nintendorks? What are you, six? That sounds like part of a Nintendon't commercial from Sega, or an insult launched at Shredder by the Ninja Turtles. I didn't know you watched the Ninja Turtles to know what they say in the show, but somehow it doesn't surprise me, considering you are a Nintendo fan.
  25. I might be wrong but didn't Nintendo state in one of their recent press releases their intention to go after people who are not gamers instead of the consumers who actually supports them?
