Season 3/ Week 11 ~ The NEW HSC ~ Ms. Pac-Man
CapitanClassic replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Damn, you are absolutely right. I thought I was going to have some time to get further in Henry's House for the 8-bit Atari HSC, but I cannot let you beat me by a couple hundred points without making a couple more attempts to beat it. -

Drelbs 1st CapitanClassic 48,450 I saw hearts/diamonds for the first time. Those didn't show up before. Getting the hang of this game. The mini game for saving the Drelbs is pretty easy now. The trolls fire in a pattern, up/down then right/left. You can time your movement so that you don't get hit by them. The mini game is worth 5,000 I think. 3rd CapitanClassic 38,840

Season 3/ Week 11 ~ The NEW HSC ~ Ms. Pac-Man

Congratulations karokoenig. Unfortunately, those don't come with instructions. In the beginning, they leak a lot and seem to have an alarm setting that goes off every 3-4 hours. But, they are lots of fun when then hit 6 months. 103,930 -

Guess I need to play the mono version. Just a second, bit because i am playing on emulator, I was able to pause it. Still blew up immediately afterward. Didn't think to take a screen capture. I will do so next time. The columns could be buildings, and the circles are where you are supposed to drop bombs.

A couple of improvements for my Catch-Up Completed Egon Took the top slot in Escape from Doomworld CapitanClassic - 24,960 This score can be beaten, it wasn't a perfect run. and placed in the top 3 in Flip and Flop 1st therealbountybob (p) 36,505 30 2nd devwebcl (n) 21,975 29 3rd CapitanClassic- 16,995 (#28) I like this game. Kind of a high pressure Q*bert. Just need to get a little better keeping my head when cornered/jumping a ladder. The perspective takes a bit of getting used to. When I first started playing as the monkey I fell off about 5 times in a row. Still working on Frogger II. I know I can score better (so no picture). It is all about scoring the SuperBonus for all lily pads, collecting the bubbles, and doves. You can score major points this way. Frogger II:Threedeep. 1st McKong (p) 87,352 30 2nd therealbountybob (p) 83,748 29 3rd ballyalley (n) 41,394 28 4th Gury (p) 39,410 27 5th CapitanClassic 28,876 (#26) Score improved to 3rd place below.

Season 3/ Week 11 ~ The NEW HSC ~ Ms. Pac-Man
CapitanClassic replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Ms. Pac-man, small improvement 78,800. Not posting a picture since I know I can beat this. -
Here is my Catch-Up progress so far through 'E'. I have played some 'F' & 'G' games, but haven't placed well enough to consider posting a picture. Although I have an original model Atari 800, my favorite joystick (a Kraft) isn't working and needs some major soldering work. I played all these games using Atari800Win 4.0. I started playing some of these games with NTSC (60 Hz) mode, but had some configuration issues with a game and was trying all possible settings to fix it. Just assume that these are PAL (50 Hz) settings. If emulators are a different category, ignore this. I listed both possible scoring scenarios, the catch-up points for playing (+1), Top10 (+2), Top5 (+3), Top3 (+4), Top HSC11 (+5), and HSC Record (+6). As well as Final Tables for each letter, and where I would have placed. AE (+6) 1st CapitanClassic 51,300 (#30) 1st SIO2 (n) 44,900 30 2nd McKong (p) 44,600 29 3rd powersoft (p) 43,200 28 AE is a fun game. It seems that each new wave of formations will not split (3,3 or 2,2,2 or individual) as soon in the levels if you fire accurately. I didn't test this too much, but it seemed to be the case (or perhaps if you don't let any ships in the formation get away). Near the later levels, it is very important to stay to the sides of the screen to avoid getting dive bombed. This does make it harder to get 3 Perfect Attacks though, which are necessary to go to the next level. Atari Invaders (+3) 4th powersoft (p) 36,960 27 5th CapitanClassic 26,030 (#26) 5th SIO2 (n) 24,910 26 I was very worried about this one. I thought that when you hit level 9/10, the aliens continue to be at the lowest portion of the screen on all future levels. This would require getting really good at shooting the bottom two rows before the aliens land on the earth. I was pleasantly surprised with the aliens jumped back to the top of the screen and just started doing the splitting trick. With a little more practice, I could improve my position, this game doesn't really get much harder after the splitting aliens (i think). Bonus Point Challenge: Atari Invaders Game 9 1st devwebcl (n) 20,220 2nd CapitanClassic - 11,740 2nd Deteacher (n) 9,570 Final Tables 'A' (9 pts) 1st McKong (p) 58 14pts#/## 2nd trbb (p) 56 12pts# 3rd SIO2 (n) 56 12pts##/* 4th CapitanClassic 56 (12pts) 4th powersoft (p) 55 10pts## So, depending upon the catch-up scoring, I would have scored 12 points or 9 points. (Not sure how the Atari Invaders Bonus game is scored) Bristles (+3) 3rd powersoft (p) 33,070 10pts 4th CapitanClassic 18,949 (9pts) 4th adam242 (p) 18,802 9pts This game seems extremely sensitive to joystick movements (or keyboard presses). I want to like this game, but the controls are very touchy. I might revisit this one, since there is a HSC this season to complete all the levels. Batty Builders (Bonus Game) (+2) 4th adam242 (p) 24,050 1pt 5th CapitanClassic 23,675 5th JK40001 (p) 21,800 1pt I feel like I get a couple of cheap deaths when the barrel position comes up unfavorably. Running total 'B' 21 points or 14 points. Crossfirers (+4) 1st therealbountybob(p)59,630 30# 2nd CapitanClassic- 36690 (29#) 2nd McKong (p) 22,170 29 Couldn't get the keyboard to work until I found a thread that indicated that this game requires OS/B (or OS/A was it) to support the keyboard. The XL/XE keyboard is too different. Without keyboard and joystick controls, this game is way too difficult. Caterpigglers (+6) 1st CapitanClassic- 257,530 (#30) 1st McKong (p) 148,630 30 2nd therealbountybob(p)135,080 29 3rd adam242 (p) 113,430 28 Don't really like this game. It is too easy to hideout at the top/bottom tunnel and collect the worms. Didn't realize that you can eat the guards too if you are eating the worm until I read the instructions (worth 500 points each, but dangerous). Chompers (+6) 1st CapitanClassic - 41,915 (#30) 1st McKong (p) 41,900 30 2nd therealbountybob(p)28,100 29 3rd ballyalley (n) 17,655 28* This score was just very lucky. The "strategy" in this one is to collect all the inside dots, since the enemies seem to track you, albeit slowly. If you are lucky, you can grab 5000 points from a Diamond, but you need to go near the center to do so. Final Tables 'C' (+16) 1st CapitanClassic 89 (12pts#) 1st McKong (p) 89 12pts 2nd therealbountybob (p) 88 12pts# 3rd adam242 (p) 76 10pts Running total 'C' 33 points or 30 points. Drol (+3) 3rd darthkur (n) 12,300 28* 4th CapitanClassic - 11,685 (#27) 4th McKong (p) 10,820 27 I don't like this game. It seems like I get a bunch of cheap deaths all the time. If you hang out too long, a bunch of shots get fired at you up high. If you move forward while shooting, the enemy shots hit you. If you are up high, you can't shoot the scorpions. Arahhh $F%U#@! Drelbs (+1) 11th ballyalley (n) 16,050 20 12th CapitanClassic- 15,900 (#19) 12th Sikor (p) 15,780 19 I sort of like this one, but for some reason, when I start Round 2 my score starts draining downward. I have no idea why. The instructions for scoring are hard to follow, or non-existent. I kissed the lady several times to score this HS, but I don't know if it is supposed to be possible to play the "mini" game that opens up when you kiss her. I see a bunch of things flash on the screen, but I don't think I have control of anything. David's Midnight Magic (+4) 1st powersoft (p) 288,490 30 2nd CapitanClassic- 257,530 (#29) 2nd NIKON (p) 190,450 29 Pinball is a nice break from some of these frustrating games. The key in this one seems to be getting the multiball lock (10 bonus points, really 10,000), and hitting the lower loop (Multiplier). Final Tables 'D' 4th SIO2 (n) 76 10pts* 5th CapitanClassic- 75 (9 pts##) 5th adam242 (p) 74 9pts Running total 'D' 42 points or 38 points. Electro Maniac! (level reached) (+4) 1st McKong (p) 18 30 2nd powersoft (p) 7 29 3rd CapitanClassic 6 (#28) 3rd therealbountybob (p) 5 28 This game I like. Very reminicent of Miner49er. I just might try to beat all the levels at a later date, or make 10 levels with the level editor to help me catch up this season. Escape from Doomworld (score) (+4) 1st McKong (p) 23,560 30 2nd SIO2 (n) 23,110 29 3rd CapitanClassic- 22,860 (#28) 3rd powersoft (p) 21,960 28 This game is buggy. I got the instant death on stage 3 like everyone else. I could speed run this to match the top scorer, but this game sucks. Egon (level reached or 10 for completing the 6 levels) (+3) 1st powersoft (p) 10 30 1st SIO2 (n) 10 30 1st McKong (p) 10 30 4th CapitanClassic 6 (#27) 4th therealbountybob (p) 6 27 4th ballyalley (n) 6 25 A very basic game with bad level design. I need to play it a couple of more times to beat all 6 levels. Easy Money ($) (+6) 1st CapitanClassic- 75 (#30) 1st therealbountybob (p) 64 30 2nd SIO2 (n) 62 29 2nd ballyalley (n) 62 29 Not a bad game at all. Most of the time when I died, I felt that it was my own fault. I think I can go quite a bit further on this one. Final Tables 'E' 1st powersoft (p) 114 12pts 1st McKong(p) 114 12pts 3rd CapitanClassic- 113 (10pts??? Not sure of scoring here?) 3rd SIO2 (n) 112 13pts*/*/* Running total 'E' 52 points (???) or 45 points. On to no catch-up scoring, have only mowed lawns so far. HSC Season 11, Round 'H' The key to this one is to mow the lawn first, that you cannot put your dog behind a hedge/flowerbed. Then you can position the dog to block your neighbor so that you won't steal their mower back.
