  1. I've been watching a lot of AVGN lately with my 11 year old son. Still trying to figure out if that makes me the most irresponsible Dad ever. :-) As folks have mentioned the content is pretty good and the reviews are quite in depth if you can overlook the crassness. After watching the big rigs episode my son walked around the house for days randomly blurting out "big beeeeeping rigs". No he didn't swear. He actually said beep.
  2. I'm not blaming the retailers either. They make their terms clear at purchase. I am saying I find it surprising when folks act shocked and get upset about terms that were made clear and open at pre-order time. :-) Either you lock in at a price, or you agree that you may have to pay any difference. If either retailer breaks the arrangement they agreed to then, yeah, be surprised and upset.
  3. Amazon has a preorder price guarantee. Folks who are locked in aren't getting unfair treatment. They are getting treatment according to the terms set forth during Pre-order. Folks being asked to pay more are likewise getting treatment according to the terms they Pre-ordered under. Both Stone Age Gamer and Amazon make their policies clear up front. They just happen to be very different. Most people are simply too eager to click "checkout" before reading all the fine print. With kickstarter I always assume my money will be lost. :-) That way I can be pleasantly surprised when the project is a success and the rewards arrive. :-) It's really cool the project is able to deliver based on the original prices.
  4. I'm just telling you what Hyperkin has said. I don't work for them, nor am I current on which patents are still valid vs which are not. :-)
  5. Hyperkin couldn't include n64 support because they needed to wait for the hardware patent to expire (it did this year).
  6. Nice score. I'm trying to find Gorf for ColecoVision.
  7. This latest set of delays seemed to have hit them totally off guard before the units shipped out. My guess is the fact they are running an android based OS put them in a different category of export. Nothing they've released before (to my knowledge) runs a full blown "OS" with generic compute capabilities. This probably meant more paperwork and possibly higher export tariffs or taxes. The Hyperkin rep said it was to cover R&D for future Retron models like the Retron X86 they just recently announced. It could be as simple as that. But if so there are better ways they could have handled it. For example if they'd announced 32x support or Sega CD support via an external USB CD drive then they could have easily made that a for pay firmware update after the fact. What's ticked most people off is Hyperkin has been talking about how the delay has allowed them to add value to the system through more accurate emulation and more features. But to turn around and increased the price 20-40% kinda kills the added value argument. It's not added value if they are charging extra for it. That said, I am locked in at the original pre-order price and I intend to wait it out.
  8. No. The rep was talking final price $120-$140. :/
  9. In the same discussion where he said "north of $100" he goes on to say specifically between $120-$140 more.
  10. This is deox. Some call it deoxit but that's just a particular brand. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=deoxit&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=31463436057&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8090869484349083458&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=t&ref=pd_sl_9b0esdpjsu_e Deoxidizer. Cleans up corrosion. To be used carefully! I know some folks that clean boards with a wire brush but that's to harsh in my opinion. A well worn toothbrush is great at getting grit, grime, and corrosion out of nooks and crannys without scratching it to hell in the process. Yeah. It's definitely fragile. The corrosion was pretty bad. oddly enough the caps seem to be fine. I say oddly because it looks like this thing hadn't been stored in a very good place. So I'm surprised the caps didn't leak and go dead. I didn't expect to get it working but the damage looked worse than it was.
  11. Yep, free. I was shocked. I offered the shop owner money both before and after I got it working. He refused to accept anything for it. He was impressed I got it running. I guess he has a local guy that repairs dead consoles that declared it unfixable. The board was corroded pretty bad. I'm sure it looked like a lost cause. I cleaned the entire board with deox and a toothbrush. I regularly spend between $20 a $100 a month in his store. So we have a pretty good relationship now.
  12. For me it was a perfect storm. Used a volt meter to figure out the power brick was bad. After that I discover the switch needed cleaning. After that... The potentiometer in the RF box needed tweaking. Finally got a (remarkably good) picture but it only works on channel 4. Then I played Donkey Kong for 2 hours. :-) Thanks to everyone here that each gave me something helpful to look into.
  13. Awesome score! And I've subscribed to your channel! :-)
  14. Scored a free ColecoVision complete in box. Totally non-working. Got it fully working after 5 days. Used deox to clean all the contacts and the switch. ReAdjusted the potentiometer to restore the video out. The power brick was dead so I replaced it with a PC power supply. No mods to the console itself were required. Cleaned up the console and controllers with a toothbrush. Looks and plays almost like new. (The controllers switches are very sticky). Works great with genesis controllers.
  15. Very impressive! I have: NES NES converted to a copynes Genesis model 1 (controller port 1 only works with 6 button controllers for some reason) genesis model 2 ColecoVision (given to me completely non-working. Restored it and replaced power brick with a PC power supply.) 2 Atari 6 switches (1 has a broken reset switch, maybe it just needs deoxit) Super Famicom SNES Super gameboy Xbox (DVD drive was shot. I replaced it) Game cube Game boy player for game cube N64 Playstation 1 (broken because original owner fried the board trying to mod it) Playstation 1 (working and modded, from the same owner as the broken one) Playstation 2 Playstation 3 fat (no PS2 compatibility) Wii (with Game Cube compatibility) Game boy Game boy Advance (shattered screen) Game Boy Advance Nintendo DS (broken hinge) Dreamcast Retro Duo Portable V2 Retrogen Adapter PSP model 1001 PSP model 3000
  16. Would it be possible to go the other way? I have a Sega Arcade stick I would love to use on my NES.
  17. Thanks for following up. I have tried a new power supply but it does not fix the issue for me.
  18. Did you ever discover what the source of the problem was? My coleco does the same thing. The static just changes color. I have verified the board is getting the correct power and that the switch is making good connections (with a volt meter).
  19. Best of luck with this project my friend. I have a CV (complete in box) with a broken power supply and dead motherboard. The thought of being able to bring it back from the dead with mostly new components is awesome. I'm looking forward to the stage where you are ready to accept pre-orders.
