Here we go. This is on the real deal hardware too. Everything is from back in the day, pebox, ti 32k card, ti computer..... only the TV is modern. I won't say which is from which cartridge, that way you can judge if one is really slower than the other or perhaps I am wackadoo. Also sorry for the video, did it on my phone....

Why reinvent the wheel right? I don't have any original D&D stuff, but I have maybe 30-40 AD&D 2nd edition books from the 80's-90's in a trunk in the basement that I am sure my wife would LOVE to get rid of

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/173213-legends-i-tips/ Here is a link, there are some pictures and stuff in the thread. The manual and game is available on TI gameshelf. Yea if you have seen the battle sequence, it makes it very noticeable if is isn't timed right. I did try using a regular XB cart and XB 2.7 several different times to make sure I wasn't going crazy or drunk or something Same effect. I could take a video comparison with my phone if you want? Not sure if really matters

Where is the preorder for this? Take my money please!!!

Awesome. Ha this made me laugh, so true though. I have no idea how to program, but 20 years ago I made a couple simple games in Qbasic for DOS and so it would go something like this... you would have to translate in the programming language of choice but maybe it will get some ideas going. START set variable p1bab$ = p1level$ +2 randomize timer d20 + p1bab$ IF randomize timer > mob1AC$ THEN goto HIT IF randomize timer < mob1AC$ THEN goto START HIT blahblahblahblbhablah

Hi, If this relates to the fantasy RPG you are creating I have a few thoughts: If I were to make a computerized combat system, I think perhaps the easiest model to 'borrow' would be from dungeons and dragons. More specifically from D&D 3.0 or 3.5 rules. The second edition rules use a mechanic called THAC0 or To Hit Armor Class Zero which is somewhat confusing and uses a lot of double negatives. However when WOTC bought out TSR they changed the mechanic to use mostly positive numbers and I think simplified it in the process. I can try to explain how this 'newer' system works: You have a character, that character has a Base Attack Bonus or BAB. Lets say at level one for a fighter that is 1 and increases by 1 per level. So at level 10 your fighter has a BAB of 10. Now we look at weapons. Each weapon has a random damage value minimum and maximum generated by a dice roll. For example a dagger would be 1d4 damage or 1 four sided dice rolled or 1-4 damage randomly generated. The first number 1 is the number of dice, the second number is the sides of the dice. So 2d8 would be two eight sided dice or 2-16 damage randomly generated. In addition to the damage values each weapon is allowed an enhancement or weapon bonus that increased it's attack bonus. So if I have a dagger +2, that is +2 to your BAB and then 1d4+2 damage or 3-7 damage. D&D also uses the mechanic of just adding to damage and not the attack bonus. This is simply called a damage bonus and not an enhancement bonus on the weapon. Now lets talk defense. This works similarly in which each armor has a value assigned to it. So your plate armor might have a value of 8 and your helmet has a value of 2, so your total AC or Armor Class would be 10. You can have enhancement bonuses to these items as well so if you had some leather armor AC value 6, but you had Dan's Leather Armor +3, the AC value would be 9. So how do we hit something? D&D uses the 20 sided dice as its base dice. So our level 10 fighter has a BAB of 10, so when he takes a swing he rolls 1d20 and adds +10 to it, this is his attack. So lets say we roll a 13+10 = 23. We simply compare this to the armor that we are attacking against and if the attack number is higher, the attack is successful! Does this all make sense? This is a very simplistic view of the D&D system, there are tons of other rules like damage types, dexterity bonuses, dodging, etc etc etc. (which I would be happy to explain if interested), but I thought for a simply attack/damage/defense model this works very well. Lets do one more example: level X thief has a base attack bonus BAB of +4. Thief has equipped a +2 assassins dagger 1d4. So when the thief attack he will roll 1d20 +4(BAB) +2(weapon bonus) for his total attack vs. AC(armor class) roll. If he rolls higher than the monsters AC, then it is a hit and damage is rolled 1d4+2. Does this help? If this is something that is interesting or helpful I am happy to help with any questions. I played D&D quite a bit over the years

Just wanted to say thank you for the cart. I got it super fast. There are to a of cool things that are all foreign to me.... I did have a question though: I notice legends runs considerably slower in 2.7 than with either my white or black XB carts. Is 2.7 designed to throttle down the TI or maybe I am the first person to notice this? What made me realize this was the spell casting effect for firestorm is normally a quick series of "explosions", but when running the game from 2.7 it is noticeably slower. After I caught this I saw the whole game must be running slower. Thanks.

I paid $50 shipped. I do have gazoo's XB 2.7 suite with all these utilities I have no idea what they do. Is there any amount of technical wizardry I can use there to make this into a 32k RAM disk? Or utilize the 64k? Ugh... I think the short answer is yes, I am a moron.

So I just bought a 32k external memory side saddle, but I already have a peb with a 32k expansion card. Soooo, this begs the question: am I an idiot?

Just use this as your surge protector and plug the bridge into it. You must have a surprotector for computer/monitor/pbox/external drive/etc ? Change it out for this and you don't need to worry about modding your PEBox. There are two USB plugs in the middle of this, but there are TONS of different styles of these as I am sure you are aware of. The only connection you need to make is the Ethernet cable from the UDS-10 to the wifi bridge, which can just get it's power from this thingo. Just trying to think outside the (PE)box............... (I can't be the first person to make that joke right?)

TI-99/4A Hall of SHAME (found on the Internet)

Here you are. -
That is pretty sweet. I have fond nostalgic memories of dialing up the local BBS' and playing LORD and Falcon's Eye and Barren Realms Elite and Usurper and...I could go on and on, but I always thought the DOORS were the best part. Why they decided to call the games doors is beyond me, but this was a on 386 IBM PC clone (Compaq maybe?). I believe my modem ran at 14400 or 14.4 and before that my babysitter let me connect to prodigy with her phone coupler modem on another DOS based system which I thought was amazing. I still remember downloading my first game as a kid and when my dad got home from work he told me not to do that because I would download a virus..?! Anyhoo I don't want to get too far off topic. Downloading games to a TI without the use of a PC: If a person does not care about speed (and I certainly don't, I am using a 30+ year old computer), then which method do you believe to do the best (most stable, user friendly, easy, inexpensive, etc) ? For my own personal adventure I have only a stock TI + PEB. Would you recommend just buying a modem of ebay and dialing up a BBS? Or getting the lantronix and plugging the rj45 into a bridge and using wifi (I understand this still requires some initial PC setup?)? Or perhaps some other method which I have no idea about? I feel like we want a similar thing Omega and that is to get games for the TI without needs to mess around with other computers. If I had my druthers I would have the TI with all period hardware and as a standalone system with only sidecar or PEB peripherals. How nice would it be to browse Atariage on your TI though? Do you remember back in the day when you would log in a BBS and if you chose the appropriate option it would just scroll through all of the boards messages......

New Adventure game for Adventure Cartridge POLL
budz2355 replied to Shift838's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
What no western category? -
Can the mini memory work for saving games? Do you simply replace dsk1 with minimem.whatever? Without any programming knowledge or intended application, would anyone recommend buying one of these? There is one on ebay for $40 I think.
-
Dumb question: with a lantronix hookup up to a cable modem can one connect to the internet without a PC? What about a 9600 baud modem hooked to the rs232 and dial up heatwave bbs and then download the latest rasmus game to diskette? Would that eliminate the PC? I have no idea how most of that works so it's kind of a shot in the dark.
-
This might not be the proper place to ask this question, but..... Where can I buy a RAM disk? I would prefer a period one as opposed to a repro/modern one. Maybe neither of these are available? If anyone could put a link below that would be much appreciated.

lol the last line of your post is definitely cheating Well I haven't used a hex editor since I was running windows 3.1 on a 486 as a teenager. I guess the short answer is no. I am just using a black/silver TI with a PEB, rs232, 32k, 2 full height 5.25" (one on a separate power supply) and a bunch of carts, tapes and a few diskettes. I have EA, DM2, XB. Any of that help? As of right now I haven't connected my TI to a "modern" PC. I am trying to stay as pure as possible, but I do have another PEB and console in storage that I plan on modding with all of the bells and whistles someday (HxC, lantronix, f18A, etc)
-
A few more? I would be interested in one as well, as I have zero technical skills and/or knowledge. Would you possibly sell me one as well? I can PP F&F the $ to you.
-
So.... I messed up my disk somehow and had to overwrite the whole copy with DM2 and start all over (boo!). I lost my party and maybe...30-40 hours? Is it cheating to try to modify the pdata file? I wouldn't even know how to do it since I don't think you can OLD the file in XB since it is not a program. It is just rough to start over... EDIT: All on original hardware
-
A ramdisk card for my PEB. Horizon? Not sure if these are around at all. Oh and on the outrageous wish list I would love a corcomp mini expansion.
-
Awesome! ....now I need to go reread your thread about what all those call numbers mean Game loaded like a charm but the player data is still looking in dsk1. Anyway you guys solved it once again!
