Awesome. You are right. After I list how do I edit that?

So I tested the drive and ran Tunnels of Doom. It took a little experimentation for me to type DSK2.QUEST but when I did it loaded! I did notice that when the firehose cable and the second drives power cable were close together there was some audible and even visual feedback on screen. When I moved things around a bit it seemed to go away, not that I can hear anything over TWO fans now anyway Also maybe the visual feedback was caused by my less than professional 'staple' job of wiring? At any rate the drive seems to work. Here is a picture of me using disk manager 2.0 to view the contents of my ToD disk (thanks to Chris Schneider again... you have created a monster..) So now that I have two drives what cool things can I do? Also of note... I was not able to run again disks requiring the 32K expansion in my PEB from DSK2. Is there a special command? I was able to load the game, but when I tried to run it DSK1 would engage and it would error out. here is what I was doing: OLD DSK2.LOAD RUN Thanks again for any/all help!

Awesome. Should I send you the money via paypal? I have run the first drive alone and it works fine. I will test the second drive shortly as I just got home from work. I will also try to flip the cable around like you said. Right now I have red line cable on the bottom of the exposed pins of the controller card and the left or bottom of the second disk drive. I will test by flipping both ends and then flipping just one end and then flipping the other. I will do this test first. I am not sure what a termination resistor pack is? (sorry I know nothing about this stuff arg!) or how to check the configuration of it? Does that mean the little black rectangle in my hand? If so they were both set to 1,2 and 1,2, but now drive two is set to 1,2,3(shunt?) in. Also the cable I bought was the one gazoo linked to up above in this thread. It doesn't have the little separator in the middle of the plastic like my original cable, but it fits both exposed sets of pins (on both boards) like a glove. EDIT -- So... success! I tried moving the cable as I said above with no results (except when I but red on top one end and bottom the other end the TI did NOT like that So I figured I would just fiddle around with the jumper wires. I tried 1,2 and 2,3 with no success, but then tried 1,2 and 1,3 and BINGO! Both drives light up independently. Now I just need to test them both by running some disk programs. Once I get those awesome switch packs from Ksarul I can clean up those ugly staples. Also I plan on painting the enclosure a silver color and I already ordered a black TI logo vinyl decal from the internet so I will post a picture of it once it is looking good. For now I will just put the 'hood' back and do some further testing. Assuming that both drives work now (cross fingers) what commands can I do to copy a disk? Does anyone have a good source for 5.25" floppy disks? Both my drives are original full height (2.5"?) so I am assuming SD/SS disks are what I need? Thanks again everyone for their help. I could not have done any of this without the help.

Could I buy a couple of these from you sir?

Argh! I forgot to do this. Will my staples work for the time being? Any clue which "switches" I want turned on to get my first and second drives working indepently?

Can I say that I know about electronics? So I followed Owens video and pulled out this pack thing and cut all but the first two connections off with a wire cutter.... that's when I noticed the little notches in the middle so the third (shunt?) connection wasn't even on in the first place (doh!). That was on the first drive. So basically the first two connection are made on that drive. The second drive I pulled out the pack thing again (the thing in my hand in the picture, I'm sure it has a name sorry) and replaced it with 3 jumper wires (they are actually staples sorry). I am still getting both drives lighting up when I try to run DSK1. I hopefully just have the wires in the wrong spots? Maybe someone could help please? Thought I would EDIT to try to clarify: Drive 1: Original configuration was 1,2. After messing around still 1,2 (unless I accidentally broke the connections Drive 2: Original configuration was 1,2. After messing around 1,2,3. Both drives still light up.

I have heard this also. Now that my PEB is finally up and working I played this game I bought on eBay about a year ago. It is the original disk (and packaging) and seemed to function just fine. Strangely enough this title used the Terminal Emulator II cart and the speech synthesizer. It had a TON of voices/speech in it, basically on every thing in the game was spoken through the speech synthesizer. I have a couple more original games to test and if they don't work I will let you know.

Okay I bought the pin cable from the first link. And the disk enclosure from this link. It looks like the disk enclosure might have power (?) so hopefully I just need the enclosure and the pin connector cable from Gazoo's first link? I think I paid $20 for the cable shipped and $35ish for the enclosure shipped which is WAY cheaper than the $160 link I thought I might have to buy so that is awesome! Hopefully when the stuff arrives I'll watch Owen's videos on how to hook up the drive. Possibly(?) in the future I can paint the enclosure to match the PEB box and at least slap some sort of TI graphic on it.

TI-99 Photos Thread! Post your systems here!

Very modest (re)beginnings. -
Talent is right. Thank you all so much for the help. All of this information should get me what I was trying to do

My plan for 2015 is to get my TI set up with a dedicated monitor instead of sharing a TV with old my retro game consoles. See if I can get my second PEB working. Add to my game collection (cart, tape or disk all are fine). At some point I would like to get a second disk drive working on my first PEB. The second PEB I would maybe like to get a lantronix and HxC (the micro SD thing right?) and maybe a f18a video card? What do you guys think keep one stock and mod the heck out of the other? Also my major goal is to learn what the heck I am do here?!?!

Awesome thank you! Err I'm not very handy. Do you anyone is making them with 3D printers like Roli's nanoPEB enclosure?
-
This seems insanely expensive http://www.mgtape.com/PTI60098SAS.aspx Is this what I want to buy? Also could you link me to the proper cable to connect the controller to the second drive please?

First I would like to say to thanks to everyone for their help. I finally got my TI-99 PEB in a state where it seems to not crash *knocks on wood* which is awesome so I am feeling like it is time for another dumb question! So I have a PEB with 32K card, RS 232 card, disk controller and full height 5.25" floppy drive. All are TI brand and original stock. I also have a second disk controller card and full height 5.25" floppy drive. (among other misc stuff) My question is I see that the disk controller seems have some exposed circuits out the back of it. Is it possible to hook up another floppy drive to it? Is it possible to put two disk controller in the same PEB? If so how would one go about powering the second floppy drive? Is there a place to buy a 5.25" external floppy drive housing with the 4 pin power plug? Would it be better to hook up a hard drive as opposed to a floppy drive? I also have a 2 cassette player cable (no cassette players) would this be a better or maybe additional option? My goals are to use original equipment if possible. I know there are some awesome mods available, and I have a second PEB I would like to get some of those for in the future, but I am trying to make my current original machine as functional as possible. All of these questions were spawned as I play the Legends RPG and save my game to the original disk every time. It would be cool I thought to have a second disk drive so that I could make copies of my games disks without altering them permanently. Again I apologize for my lack of knowledge and dumb questions and appreciate any help.

So I just bought another console on ebay for $50. Now, I remove my speech synthesizer to see if I can get the interface cable to reseed and the game/disk boots up fine! I am not sure it will last, but ironically I JUST sold my spare speech synthesizer yesterday..... ugh

Hi Ralf, I'll try to respond in the body of your message ^^^ Thanks very much for your response.

That's actually what Chris recommended that I do. My console has a big dent in it and until recently I had to wiggle it around to get it to even display color. Anyone have a console they know works and would be willing to part with? Should I do this as the next step. I am just afraid of sinking more $$$ into this and still not having a working machine. My wife is very understanding but at some point she will kill me Should I just ebay a console then?
