  1. I started this thread Jan 1st, 2016.... Just want to give a huge shout out to everyone. Got the splitter in from china today. After a LOT of messing around I finally determined the back metal housing had scraped off the plastic from the edge connector adapter ribbon cable and was causing a short on the drive. Got the ramDISK successfully moved (Chris you are the man!) so I had space to move the disk controller to slot 7 and then feed the splitter cable through the gap in the back of the PEB. The TI is the bane of my existence at times, but at times like this it is so awesome. 180K drive and 3.5" media to boot. Thanks again to EVERYONE, a ton of you have helped me with this project alone. I know it will never look as good as Omega's, but here ya go.... (also the most important tool is in the middle of the shot) EDIT: Sorry for the poor image quality, that is DSK2 successfully reading!
  2. So far I have just purchased the 4-pin molex splitter for the PEB. It is on it's way from China, so who knows when it will arrive. I think I ordered it a weekish? ago. Thanks for all of the awesome ideas, there are truly a ton of routes I didn't even think of. Assuming the molex splitter works, I will most likely buy an extender (another buck?) from China. If the splitter doesn't work (for some reason? ...I seem to be cursed), then I will look at some of those other good power cables. Also I think I might need to look into them in the future anyway if I am going to get an emulated floppy drive. I also still have a half height 5.25" floppy that was recommended somewhere in this thread that I still haven't tried to hook back up (after wanting to blow up my TI in frustration), but I think at some point since I will give it another go and maybe take it nice and slow? I will certainly update once the splitter comes from China
  3. Before I buy this how do you get the splitter out of the peb? Does the disk controller have to be in slot 8? It looks like it would block anything I tried to wire out of the disk bay.
  4. I see splitters on eBay. I'll buy an extender too.
  5. I'll take anything at this point... Just depressing seeing this pile of stuff in the corner of the room that I can't use. Also I did already buy the small to large 4 pin adapter, but like I said I would use anything at this point.... Could you link me to this Y adapter? It would have to be somehow lengthy on the end that connects to the external drive
  6. Okay worst eBay transaction ever. I am stuck with the drive enclosure, but not a working power supply. Would anyone be able to help me find the correct lower supply like Omega has?
  7. Okay worst eBay transaction ever. I am stuck with the drive enclosure, but not a working power supply. Would anyone be able to help me find the correct power supply like Omega has?
  8. So after some more digging around on the internet it appears the guy sent me the WRONG POWER SUPPLY!!! Argh this is the worst eBay seller, how aggravating! No wonder the stupid thing has power issues! It outputs different V & A than the correct one (also has two extra pins). I sent the guy a message, even though it was a nightmare to get a non-broken case from him in the first place. Aaaand around we go again!
  9. So I have come to the conclusion that it is in fact NOT the two prong power extension cable. I checked about every cable like this in my house and they are all 125V 7A. When just hooked up alone the drive enclosure light is solid green and the drive light is solid green. As soon as I turn on my PEB or TI console however the green light starts to flash and I can hear the disk drive start and stop repeatedly. It is being turned off/on/off/on/off/on/etc. Any ideas what is going on? Or better yet what can I do to fix it??
  10. Do me a super duper huge favor? Look on your two hole plug that goes into the brick and flip it over and tell me what the volt and amp numbers are on it? Should be right on the stub with the holes. End of the cable looks like a figure 8 or infinity.
  11. The only other thing I can think of is here is the branded power brick that came with the SyQuest disk enclosure. However the two prong cable that plugs into the brick says 10A 125V. Omega does the light on your power brick pulsate when it is hooked up? ....mine doesn't at first but then the light starts to fade and then go bright.... fade and then go bright....
  12. Disk drive worked perfectly fine when I hooked it up to the TI power supply. See the first picture? Everything worked perfectly as DSK2.
  13. So I got the disk case from Omega's link... I got the 3.5 to 5.25" conversion kit from Ksarul's link... I got some NOS 720k non HD floppys unopened from eBay... I plugged everything in, removed my large full size DSK2 enclosure, hooked up the new drive..... and it doesn't work (here is where you guys should be proud of me) ....so instead of exploding in typical fashion, I decided I would systematically change components on the drive until I got it to work. To make a LOOOOONG story short (yes I tried many many many thing, and amazing didn't smash anything...) I finally got the disk drive to work! ...sort of... I could only get the drive to read (and as DSK2 as you wonderful people correctly directed me that since this drive has no jumpers it is jumpered as B) when hooked up to my TI power supply. Here are some photos... You can see the SyQuest EZDrive enclosure only has 2 of the 4 pins in the molex connect. Ironically I have TWO of these enclosures since the plastic came broken on the first one so I checked the spare and it also only has 2 pins... You can see in the pictures that when I hooked the drive up to the actual TI power supply it worked fine. I formatted my first disk ever to 180k (only made it up to 718, but hey..) So...mighty people of the TI forums, I beg your help! ....what do I do now???
  14. This is awesome. I didn't even think about the fact that the 4-pin molex would be too big for the power on the 3.5" drive. I am going to order this right now. Also, the gent I ordered the case from sent me a replacement so we are right on track. Since I have an unmodified disk controller, which diskettes should I but then? Any links would be very much appreciated
  15. So minor update... Bought that case (thanks Omega) ... came broken....ugghhhh still waiting to see if seller will send a replacement or get a refund... But! ... possible new plan, maybe I'll mount that 3.5" in my PEB? Does anyone know if this piece can be found for cheaper? http://cdn.opentip.com/Electronics/Iec-Inch-To-Inch-Cable-Adapter-p-1573870.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwoM63BRDK_bf4_MeV3ZEBEiQAuQWqkbOAt8ACtmypSIV1KSlOdNaYpZn5EJBmslzwQK4155gaApFr8P8HAQ I couldn't find any on ebay really, but I might not be searching the best terms? ...also... Thinking about a Lotharex HxC argghhh! the modern era! Anyway... would people recommend the F rev of this or maybe the GoTek instead? I am a complete n()()B so I am assuming the lotharek product is the way to go... Commentary on any of the above?
  16. I'll try to drive down from Minnesota. Don't worry I like hard liquor vorticon
  17. Snagged one, thanks! ... so awesome slideshow (didn't notice that before on my phone) ... I have the drive you recommended and the enclosure. Now how do I connect my DSK2 edge connector to it?
  18. Hmmm locked up my ti uploading a file..... First file I uploaded seemed to work fine? You might want to delete risk since I don't think the upload ever finished.
  19. Omega do you have a link to your 3.5" external enclosure? I thought it was in this thread, but perhaps I am just blind...?
