  1. Hi Schmitzi, (info below should actually go to a /4 discussion, not beige anymore): with Ksarul we went through an whole check as well for /4 (as mine came without power and video cabling and had to get them to work). My view is that there are 4x different /4 versions (and a few more) 1. /4 with volume slide + speaker (built-in) + earphone plug (at the left front of the TI) and needs a 9900/N power adapter "1x BIG-PIN" (220V, you have the details), the shoeform There are 3x fuses in this adapter: http://www.globeron.com/freedownload/services/TI99/AC9000N-adapterTI99-4-special.jpg and 6-pin DIN plug which needs a PAL-Modulator (European version) + +5V ++ ++++ GND + +12V ++ ++ -5V See also Fabrice website: http://www.ti99.com/ti994pow.htm 2. (last week on ebay from Germany) /4 with volume slide + speaker (built-in) + earphone plug (at the left front of the TI) and needs a 9900/N power adapter (220V, you have the details as per above), the shoeform and 5-pin DIN plug which needs a NTSC modulator or direct cable using composite plugs 2.5 --- ***not too sure if there are versions with a volume slider, but not having a speaker built in, but having an earphone plug (I cannot remember if I read it somewhere) 3. /4 without volume slider, no speaker built-in, but it has a earphone plug (at the left front of the TI) and needs a 9500 power adapter (117V) AC9500 (pins 1,2: 18 VAC .18 VA (or 18VA ?), Pins 2,4: 8.5 VAC .128 VA). 5-pin DIN plug which needs a NTSC modulator or direct cable using composite plugs 4. /4 without volume slider, no speaker built-in, but it has a earphone plug (at the left front of the TI) and needs a 9500 power adapter (117V) AC9500 pins 1,2 16.0VAC 36.0VA and pins 2,4 8.0VAC 1.0VA) see the website below. Note that 3 and 4 are both have an AC9500 adapter, but with different specifications (no clue why ?) ** Then there are /4 systems which had to be connected directly to the monitor (see http://www.ti994.com/1979/peripherals/) but also the cable was identified (like the direct composite plug cable), but has to do with the FCC regulations of the RF-modulator. ** Furthermore the /4 Keyboard has more pins than a normal /4A keyboard and the spacebar is connected separately I took some pictures of my spare keyboard: More info: www.ti994.com/ http://www.99er.net/994.html http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/computers/ti994.html
  2. Hi Fabrice, I went through an whole exercise with the seller who is selling new Beige TI's (he has probably all 3 versions on stock), normal, and 2x QI types. Unfortunately the QI's software versions V1 and V2.2 cannot be identified from the outside. We checked with other customers they got a V2.2 version, but my QI was a V1 version (new from the box), all taped, etc. (actually first I wanted to buy a V2.2 version, also not knowing the restrictions that time and tried to get this one, but now I am glad I have an 1981 software version...PAC-MAN (Atari) is still a good game :-). We tried to identify from the outside labels (see picture), but it is also no guarantee that it is V2.2, I shipped recently one to my father, but he did not try this one yet, so I cannot confirm all details. 3. This is a program from Ed Schwartz to dump the ROM / GROM / Speech / Disks, etc. over a serial cable from the TI-99/4A to the PC (it is still my favorite). Only for option 4 (to dump modules), I think I did it using a Navarone Cartridge switcher. See page 18 of my PDF: http://www.globeron.com/freedownload/services/TI99/TI-99-4A-PC-transfer-v1.12.pdf Use an Editor Assembler module in the TI (or CDC). Use option 1 TIBASIC and load "DSK1.TRANSFER" At the PC side you need to run "RECV.EXE (in the TI60\UTILS directory and to have a serial cable between the two systems) Someone put the TI60 (Dos version here online, including some ROMs and Groms) http://mntnweb.com/programs/v9t9.zip (here is the RECV.EXE file) 0006-V9T9-PCCONNECT.dsk
  4. It is funny, but I left the settings at Joystick and had the Joy2Key working in parallel (was thinking about this as well), but all worked without any issue so far. I like the REDO and BACK and 1,2,3 exactly what was needed to have the flexibility, like in Barrage, Car Wars, Blasto. (the only hick-up which I can expect is the 2.4 GHz for the Wireless controllers as I have a lot of WiFi, Bluetooth and other devices operating in this frequency, but that has nothing to do with the emulator), I can test with USB-wired controller as well, but all should be okay. (I will do some more testing on Sunday) but last night we did SNES emulators, like these: http://www.letsplaysnes.com/play-super-mario-all-stars-super-mario-world-online/ worked seamlessly as well with the Joy2Key.
  5. Wow! (I have been many times to your website (via translate.google.com) as my French is limited, but it is very nice and I learned a lot about other TI-99 systems (/4B,./5, etc.), including Tomy Tutor, CDC http://www.ti99.com/cdc994a.htm (I know you prefer the real equipment above the emulator), but I just did a check if the CDC was listed in MESS (only a few other CDCs are listed) CDC721 Terminal). >> Maybe it should be preserved? MESS emulator and TI-versions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynSJJMxJ3sc RE: Plato Interpreter: >> Coincidentally 2-3 weeks ago I went one by one through the Plato Software list (together with Schmitzi) and had a discussion >> with Ben on FaceBook TI99ers as well. Platolist.zip Maybe people have these type of lists, but there were errors in it, or there missing modules (e.g Biology 3 "5-8" were not listed). (if there are still missing modules for Plato let me know, but I am pretty sure this list is complete now as I went through several lists)
  6. (see picture). I did not know the internals as described above (except the bronze vs silver I/O port springs and the "mylar" keyboard (Brown PCB-board) vs "switched" keyboard (green PCB-board). Other difference: 1. blue on/off button ("old style") similar as the silver/black and 1981 operating system 2. red on/off button - QI has 1981 operating system 3. there is also a beige QI version which has an 1983 V2.2 operating system (so that 3rd party modules cannot work, like the Atari ones) (I do not have this one, but if you want to experience "V2.2" then download the Classic99 emulator it is built-in) PS. Classic99 has also the /4 Operating system of 1979 built-in, which was used in the silver/black /4 (red button for shift and red button for enter ones on the picture). the /4 ones differ (1 with volume slider and internal speaker and earphone plug) and 1 with solid state software label and earphone plug. (but no volume slider and no speaker) The difference between the /4A ones on the picture is the "Solid state software" label (the old mold of the /4 to cover the volume slider area) and the new mold without this. (**PS, I need to change the beige keyboard here, as it is my 1st TI, but it had the "mylar" keyboard which broke down, I will swap it with another /4A, but did not had time to do that yet).
  7. For Mac maybe try this Enjoy2 tool to map the joystick movements to the right keys: https://github.com/fyhuang/enjoy2/blob/master/README.md (you need to know which movement need to be pressed on the keyboard) This is the windows version: http://joytokey.net/en/download
  8. Today I coincidentally found the software that works with the USB controllers to map the keys (similar as the software sometimes99er, but that seems to work only with logitech controllers?) This software works so far with any other controller, maps the joysticks functions and keys to keyboard keys and you can create different profiles (e.g. Classic99, JS99er, V9T9, MESS) depending how the keys are assigned. http://joytokey.net/en/download Typically mapping of joysticks: Joystick 1 keyboard keys to map: (up=E, down=X, left=S, right=D, fire=Q) or in Classic99 the arrow keys Joystick 2 keyboard keys to map: (up=I, down=M, left=J, right=K, fire=Y) or sometimes use the arrow keys on the keypad (8,2,4,6) with joytokey it is also possible to use combinations, like FCTN-= (QUIT), in Classic 99 you need to map ALT and = or REDO (FCTN-= ) = ALT 8 or BACK (FCTN-9) = ALT 9 and mapped keys like 1,2,3 (so that you can select options in games like Car Wars, Blasto) example config for the Oker wireless USB joysticks using Classic99 Joy2key-classic99cfg.zip mapping is only done once you are in the TI-game. Very flexible and easy to map. It is also possible to map mouse movements (e.g. useful for both classic99, JS99er.net emulator, to select the software) Note: make sure you do not close joytokey, but minimize it to the system tray, or just select the emulator. PS, it also works with other emulators on websites.
  9. Re: Regarding the speech, I have the same issues on my computer, but I have not been able to find out exactly why it runs of bits to parse. My emulation is converted from MESS, but since JavaScript is basically single threaded I cannot use the advanced timing of MESS, and if you have read about the speech synth in the E/A manual you know there is a lot of timing involved >> Not sure if this helps: >> V9T9 (files are also on Github, by Ed), it is written in Java, but his emulator does not have the Speech issues >> (or does Java have the same advanced timing like MESS/MAME?) >> Since TI60 (V9T9 dos version), I extracted the Speech.bin (from my original Speech Synthesizer using the tools in that package). >> the latest v9t9 emulator makes use of that file, see the picture and probably the Java communicates with it ? >> (I am not a programming expert), but the Speech in v9t9 is solid and very close (if not the same) as the real iron Speech Synthesizer >> experience.
  10. I would be interested if your USB-Joystick adapter is working with another emulator. If it is not too much hassle and if you have a "native windows environment" running (or virtualised windows on a MacBook) can you try your joysticks using the TI-99/4A emulator - Classic99: http://www.harmlesslion.com/zips/classic99.zip Goto Options>Options>Joystick to configure both joysticks ! Then select Game, like TI Invaders, or Parsec and test if everything works okay (there are many many other games available for TI, including Frogger, TI Toad, Princess and the Frog) more modules are here: ftp://ftp.whtech.com/Cartridges/rpk/ PS/3 Joysticks - I am using USB-joysticks like these pictures, and all works wtih the emulator: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/236035-ti-emulators-and-joysticks-can-we-program-buttons-for-redo-back-and-enter/ USB-to-Joystick: I have ordered this package from Germany: http://www.sinchai.de/index.php?main_page=page&id=17&zenid=a99a7e7fc31fe5f15f14a0772c69fb53 The problem is that I did not get it and no reaction from their company, maybe because of this: http://www.sinchai.de/index.php?main_page=page&id=18
  11. Same here, it works for a while and then it hangs with a continuous sound (something similar like the real iron TI hang-up sound) BTW - Parsec is the game I want to test on all emulators, I believe that V9T9 and MESS have better Speech (but I have not tested all latest versions of the emulators) [Edit] - I just opened the parsec.rpk from ftp://ftp.whtech.com/Cartridges/rpk/ that one works (not freezing so far), but the speech is a bit "scrambled"
  12. According to this page "DataBiotics" and "Software Specialties Inc" is a company as well (Inc - Incorporated): http://gamesdbase.com/all_system_games-texas_instruments_ti_99__-47-__4a.aspx
  13. CALL COINC. :-). We were playing Qbert in the weekend on js99er.net/fullscreen.html at someone else location who never saw a TI. Perfect game. Also need to turn the keyboard a bit. You probably like the Jumpy game as well.
  14. Me, too never heard of it before! Also the pre-MBX in the pictures I never heard of it: http://atariage.com/forums/gallery/member/4364-toucan/
  15. >> Probably the browser on the SmartTV has the same issue as I have in Internet Explorer: "*** Warning *** Web Audio API not supported by this browser" >> IE: 11.0.9600.1914 >> Update version 11.0.21 (KB3065822) >> the LG TV WebOS browser version I cannot check as it is in Netherlands >> but in Firefox (v 39) and Chrome browser (v Version 43.0.2357.130 m) everything works okay and I can hear the sound
  16. It is probably somewhere in this forum, but good to take note of this as well to run it in full screen mode! http://js99er.net/fullscreen.html Rasmus --> 1. Maybe it is good to have a quick-link when people access js99er.net so they can switch between 2x modes ? 2. Also I see a blue "target" icon which I thought it was to switch to full screen mode (but nothing happens I think when I press it?), but I do not see the "target" icon in the full screen version. (icon is next to the screen-shot icon at the bottom)
  17. Here are more Tigervisions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigervision this list I also had not seen before (by Bryan Roppolo), see details here and classification letter scheme http://www.99er.net/rarity.html
  18. Hi Toucan, my apologies (yesterday I could not check on my tablet), but just did the check, the ones I referred to are similar, but not Tigervision, you can see the other ones at js99er.net > Software > more TI99 - River Rescue - @1983 Thorn Emi Video Ltd Atari* River Patrol - Tigervision - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwHqJNZ_Lp8 TI99 - Submarine Commandor - Thorn Emi Video Ltd TI99 - Submarine Battle - TI 1982 Atari* Polaris - Tigervision - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g7kGlUK8K8
  19. Hi Ksarul, > re: An official release has a manual and disk, tape, or cartridge. Thank you for the definition!
  20. I am trying to understand what is meant by released? Does it mean released on cartridge or also on disk or tape. With an official manual etc? I have played river patrol and espial in the 80s and you can find them online. Nowadays I use js99er.net to check. Select software and more then you see most modules listed. Also select games 512k 3 modules. Polaris. Never heard of it. Need to check it.
  21. Error message "Unable to create the Direct3D device (8876086C)" RDP is the issue: Most of the time I am using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) to my server where MESS is running (now I saw I had the same issue with MESS if I start it directly), but I am using QMC2 (M.E.S.S.) all the time that works via RDP. MAME + QMC2 (M.A.M.E.) also works via RDP. I just started both mess and mame from the system directly (with a screen directly attached to it) then they start and I see a kind of config menu (similar as the "SCRLCK" "TAB" menu), but with MESS it shows a range of consoles (but I cannot scroll down to see the TI-emulators, like in QMC2). I have not played around with all the native Linux start-up commands. I am almost under control how the QMC2 system works and like to see all the other hardware (of which most of them I never heard of before). and I also like the startup batch of Ralf, which automatically loads everything and is pre-configured from the command line mode!
  22. Hi Tursi, I understand the difference, but I had to run the native TI60 (v9t9) "Transfer" programme as that time I had no other clue how to transfer disks to the PC (using non-adjusted hardware and HDX did not get it to work that time with a normal RS232). Even it is old Transfer was still a "fast way" to transfer floppies. VDM99 is also good with the normal equipment (I like the hook feature) but the best / fastest is what Ralf setup (an old PC with all type of drives connected to it and use OmniFlop or similar) I also saw MFM (Magic File Manipulator) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt7rc2fulgc (have not tried that one yet). Overview of transferring files between PC and TI (work in progress !) http://www.globeron.com/freedownload/services/TI99/TI-99-4A-PC-transfer-v1.12.pdf
  23. Hi Ralf, More to be edited :-) Maybe good to add the websites as well where to find all the emulators and to include more details like the other table (but honestly I think that the developers are the best to ask what is inside and what not) * TI latest version is 1983 (V2.2) which cannot handle 3rd party command cartridges (like Atari) (thus the 1981 OS version is better actually) Furthermore I believe the developers never sleep, I do not know where people get the time...:-) but I like it much ! * Classic 99 is v382 already http://www.harmlesslion.com/cgi-bin/showprog.cgi?search=classic99 * V9T9j (of Ed Swartz), latest version is 21st of July 2015: http://eswartz.github.io/emul/ (I have not tested this one, 2nd of July is the latest I saw) * Rasmus is the best to ask, js99er.net is the online version with all software installed (via ...more option) and here is the JavaScript offline version js99er-1.9.zip (for offline running it in a browser) http://atariage.com/forums/topic/224744-js99er/page-6?hl=%20js
