Woo hoo! I have my NanoPEB! Now what? LOL... Reading the documentation now. First observations: It has a power plug and a small switch. Didn't come with a wall transformer. Hopefully this is explained in the docs. Wasn't packaged very well. The padded envelope looks like it might have come open during shipping. Glad the Nano made it. Was there a power supply that got lost? I'll never know. Can you guys recommend one? Does it matter if it is 1.2 or 2.2 Amps? This is the one I am looking at: http://www.amazon.com/iMBAPrice%C2%AE-5V-Wall-Power-Adapter/dp/B00GUO5WUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410227751&sr=8-1&keywords=5v+power+adapter+2.1mm It sure plugs in tight! I feel like I might break it trying to get it unplugged. Sure would be nice if it came in a case. I have some case ideas, but I have no means to build one Darryl

I have a copy of it if anybody wants to try it. Darryl

Just wow. I want in on this! Darryl

So I am attempting the speech-in-console mod. So far I’ve done this: -De-cased the speech synth -Snipped, de-soldered, and removed the edge connector -Cleaned everything up. Next I need to find a nice piece of ribbon cable. Any suggestions here? Darryl

I haven’t yet checked the power supply lines, so no answers there yet. But I did have an opportunity to check out my system using a genuine TI FDC. This time I saw the disk spinning in the drive. But DM2 still reported an error. But I no longer suspect the floppy drives, and I am feeling good about the Myarc controller too. Now I am hopeful of a PEB power supply issue. If it is the PEB PSU, what are my options? Should I look into the Mainbyte 2amp PEB PSU mod? Is that even an option if the PSU is already failing? Can a standard PC PSU be installed in the PEB? Darryl

If it's any help, I have a sizable collection if the Plato diskettes... possibly all of them. I remember spending an entire afternoon way back just copying them from my dad's collection. But at the moment they are locked away on TI disks and I am still resurrecting my PEB... And also building a windows xp machine with 5.25" floppy drive for transferring. But when I get them transferred, I will donate them to the project. Darryl

Just so I get this straight, this 32k supercart will behave like an e/a cart with a 32k men exp, right? If that's the case, then I will be wanting one of these. Darryl

This may sound completely crazy, but... I've seen other circuit boards designed and built on this forum. Maybe it's time for a Mitsumi citcuit board replacement project. Possible? Other than that, the only option I know of it wait for a beige console to go up on Ebay and look for the ones with an "under" shot. You can usually tell if it has that brown color or a green circuit board. Darryl

This may sound stupid, but have you tried replacing the black keys (on a good keyboard) with beige keys? Darryl

That's great news! Thanks! Darryl

I need the manual for the Myarc 32/128k Memory Expansion card. I cannot find mine. I need to test it out. I want to know a) if it works, and 2) how much RAM it has. I opened it up and the RAM chips say the following: Japan 8648 HM50464P-15 U1005ZZ Guessing these are 64K chips, so since there are 16 of them means this is a 128K card... right? Darryl
-
I'll help out. But first I am gonna dig a little. I might have this manual. I had a fair amount of MG stuff back in the day. And I recognized the screen from MG Explorer put up recently (or maybe not so recently, but i just saw the thread for the first time). So I am pretty sure I have the software too. Darryl.

I just discovered this process which restores the yellowed beige plastic. Since my beige console is already taken apart, I am going to try it. Has anybody else here tried it? I may also try it on my cassette recorder, which has uneven yellowing on the different pieces. The keys in particular are more yellow than the main shell. http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/ Darryl

Pardon me for being such a newb, but could you please tell me which eeproms I need to order as well? My immediate need will be for the 512k supercart. I want to make my own eeprom for a super game cart. My questions are listed below. 1. Which eeprom will I need to get for carts? - As I am learning more about the 512K cart, it appears to be able to take smaller capacity EEPROMS (64K) up to 512K and above (1024K?) if I solder in a resister. Correct? It appears the chip part numbers are printed on the 512K cart board. 2. Can these eeprom burners also read an eeprom and store the data in a file on the PC? - I believe the answer to this is YES... at least if the Youtube video I just watched is any indicator. 3. How do you erase the EEPROM (or can you)? - I think they can be erased in the 'burner', correct? It's the EPROMS (single E) that use UV light to erase them. Am I right? 4. How many times can they be erased and rewritten? Darryl

OK, I contacted him and have arranged to buy one. woo hoo! Darryl

Help me buy one of these. I found a link (in French) to buy the NanoPEB/CF7+, but they don't ship to the USA apparently. Can somebody allow me to ship to their address and then ship it to me? I'll pay the additional shipping cost of course. http://www.stargames.be/shop/accessoires/4085-compactflash-drive-rs-232-nanoped.html Darryl

I want to get into burning my own eeproms (for the TI carts). Can some of you experts out there recommend a good (and cheap) burner for me? I’ve been surprised by my early Ebay results, but I fear the cheap price tag and small size is misleading. While cheap small devices do what I want to do? Darryl

I am in the process of modding my TI case for a VGA connector. I want this thing to be easy to take apart with the hack/mod in place. One thing that would make it easier is if I just went without the top shield over the motherboard. I realize the original shield was partially used for heatsink purposes. Since this TI now has an F18A installed, the heat dissipation is no longer needed. What other purpose was the shield for? Was it shielding EMI? Something else? It will be a pain to cut the shield for the ribbon cable and VGA connector, but I will do it if I have to. But if I don’t have to, then I will be happy. Opinions? Darryl

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=321366580263&view=all&tid=1329009885011 Has anybody else tried this converter? I just bought one to use my non-F18A console with my flat LCD display. I have another similar converter in use in another room. I use it to put video to a flat LCD monitor so I can view my DVD player/recorder without having to turn on the projector every time. It works perfectly and I love it. The expectation is it will work the same with a TI computer. However, my non-F18A console is showing black/white video. I understand it has been modified slightly, so before I investigate further, I’d like to know if anybody else is having issues with one of these converters. After doing some Google searching, I discovered this page which seems to describe exactly what I am facing http://www.pagetable.com/. Apparently, it has nothing to do with the video converter. It’s probably just pickier about the video signal than the TI color monitor was. So I have ordered replacement crystals. I’ll update this thread after I fix this. Has anybody else done the repair? Darryl

Fitting the F18A and an amplifier into the 4A console II
dphirschler replied to Willsy's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
My amplifier arrived Saturday. I heard the sounds of rattling loose parts in the package. When I opened it up I discovered it’s a kit! Lol I swear I saw nothing indicating it was a build-it-yourself kit in the ad. Looks like I will get some good practice soldering. I’m actually looking forward to it. Anyone have a good source for a cheap speaker? I would imagine 2” round is about right. I saw one somewhere that was rectangular and maybe even smaller. And how should I attach it inside? I am not fond of gluing things inside the case. I’d prefer to screw it down. Darryl -
OK, I have some homework to do. I'll check the powersupply lines. The drives are spinning weakly, with not enough oomph to spin a disk. Darryl
-
They are known working drives installed in a PEB. I used them myself for many years. So I know they are good. The motor spins weakly when you put a disk in, but stops when you latch it. Darryl
-
Thanks! I need to do a little investigation. But at this point, its looking like the FDC. I'll let you know. Thanks again. Darryl
