Still looking for this? I know I have it. My friends and I ripped a ton of cart games back in the day. He was pretty slick with assembly. He wrote two utilities (Meat and Meow). So you load Meat first, then load the cart, then run Meow, and it would be written to disk. I don't remember how it worked, but that was the process. And we had a slick little loader that would run all our rips in XB from a menu. Good times. Darryl

I have several Scott Adams Adventure games (Claymorgue Castle and some others for instance) on diskette that I’d like to make into cassettes. Anybody have some pointers on how to convert these? Darryl
-
I did an experiment with Scott Adams’ Adventure files on cassette. I took the fiad files, converted to wav. Then I converted the wav to mp3 (256k VBR), and then back to wav (8 bit mono). Then I attempted to convert them back to fiad using CS1er. The hope was the resulting fiad file would be identical to the original fiad file. It wasn’t. The converted mp3’s failed with many errors. I would imagine the TI would also fail to read the mp3 files. It seems there is a need to make an Android app that can play the fiad files as audio, and also record audio and convert to fiad in real time. I could just go with wav, but it’s just so bulky compared to fiad. An 11k fiad file becomes 6mb! Darryl

I didn't realize the F18A had its own RAM. So it doesn't even use those bad chips after the upgrade. This post made my day! And now (after re-reading the thread), I see that Stuart said the same thing but I just missed it. Darryl
-
So... Desolder old ships, solder in new chips? Next question. Does anybody know where I can get replacement RAM chips? Also, is this the oportunity to make it 32k? Darryl
-
I don't think it's the VDP because I already swapped it out with a known good one (removed from another TI in preparation for F18A). I was very hopeful this would solve it, but it didn't. So that leaves video RAM then, right? Can I assume that the video RAM is #14 in the below picture? (picture from old-computers.com) I should point out that TI Invaders crashed shortly after entering the game. That seems to point to bad RAM too, doesn't it? Darryl

I have three beige TI consoles. Two have bad keyboards, one has a good keyboard but looks like this when I boot it. I replaced the one chip that comes out of the socket (this is the one I removed for the eventual F18A mod) from another console. Didn't help. Can anybody else diagnose this from just a photo? Darryl

I can't even get to the contacts. The alpha-lock key seems soldered in and I believe I need to unsolder it in order to get the circuit board out of the keyboard. Darryl

Anyone have an extra silver/black case shell?
dphirschler replied to dphirschler's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
The one with the non-brassy fingers still says "1981". The other one has brassy fingers. And the third one is apart and already modded. Darryl -
In my opinion, it's the most impressive speech of any game. Beats Parsec, beats Lasso. Darryl

OK, I am up for it if you are! I prefer black with the silver still attached, please. Couple things, how do I verify it's not a v2.2? I don't think it is, but I'd like to know for sure. Also, you already know the keyboard doesn't work. Well, '1' and '2' work, lol. Darryl -
Is there an actual multi-game cart for sale somewhere? I want! Darryl

Converting GK files to modules/carts (rpk)
dphirschler replied to dphirschler's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Surely every cartridge is not there. But I did download a few... :-) I have like 14 disks of GK'ed carts. And they pack up small! -
Is your PEB firehose unplugged there or do you have some fantastic solution for that? Darryl
-
I get the idea that many people on this forum have several TI computers each. I myself have three, lol. All three of mine are beige. I’ve decided I want to go classic and get a silver/black one. Any chance somebody here has a shell plus keyboard they can part with for cheap? Or maybe trade for beige? Funny, that silver/black design looked so dated next to the beige consoles back in the 80's, and now they look so good. Silver/black made a comeback! Darryl

I have a ton of GK cart rips from back in the day. I’d love to convert them back into (virtual) module for use in the emulators. Is it possible, and if so, which utilities can do it? I Googled it, but it’s difficult for me to understand the search results. Some of the emulator utilities’ descriptions are vague and/or hard to understand. Darryl

It’s my understanding that Super Demon Attack in cart form did not have speech (Why? I do not know). The British speech is quite impressive, and really made the game more enjoyable for me. I was very surprised to find the cart did not have the speech included. Is there any interest to make a run of carts with the speech version? I am sure I am not the only one to have this game on disk. Darryl

I’d be curious to know if he plans on improving on the design such that it can be cased. Also, Why CF and not SD? SD is definitely more compact, more universal, cheaper, and maybe even faster. Is the developer of this device on these forums? Darryl

Dude! That's freakin' brilliant! Tell me more about this. Darryl

I am in the act of restoring my system at the moment. My console is taken apart. The keyboard is not working. But here ya go! Darryl

I am pretty sure the disk controller had a battery backed up real-time clock, or was that the memory expansion card. I didn't see any reference to that in the document linked above. Maybe it was the memory expansion card. I honestly expected to see some wikipedia pages listing all of Myarc's cards, the history behind them, some comparisons to Corcomp and TI's cards. I didn't even find info on the mini-expansion box. Part of this is I was curious about the history of the company. For some reason (perhaps it's even true), I was thinking Myarc formed out of Corcomp. Darryl
-
Come on! Let's see 'em. Take a nice pic of your system and show it off here. I'd love to see what everybody has. Be sure to describe any mods you have done too. Darryl

I have both a Myarc disk controller card and a Myarc 128k memory expansion card. As I was trying to research about them using Google, I was unable to find any information about the 128k memory expansion card... and only limited info about the disk controller. Am I missing something? I know Myarc made other cards too. Isn't this stuff documented online somewhere? Darryl PS. I have a couple of unused Myarc RS232 labels (but not a Myarc RS232 card). Don't know where we got those. If anybody needs them, let me know.

I have a Mitsumi keyboard. Not sure how to clean it, but I am attempting to take it apart to examine it. But I cannot even get to the circuit board to make the Alpha-lock mod, much less clean the keys. The Alpha-lock key is the one key that is holding everything together. All the screws have been removed, but it won't come apart. And I cannot figure out how to get the #@$^%$ alpha-lock key off. Darryl

Pole Position Competition -- (8/10 - 8/24)
dphirschler replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I freakin' love that game! Worth buying a Playstation for. And NFS HP2 is damn good too. Darryl
