It's not a rumor.  The BattleSphere team did try to bring it to the Nuon but they couldn't get funding for it.  I'll share the full story in my Untold Nuon Tales series in the Nuon Dome Helper forums when it's complete.  I've interviewed two of the three members of Scatologic so far (Scott and Doug) and am waiting to see if I can track down Stephanie for it.  Hopefully I'll have it complete sooner rather than later as I'd love to share it with everyone.

I think she appeared commeting in one of the NES covers of BattleSphere on YouTube so, that would be a good lead!

    Thanks you.

The game is best played with overlay :

I like this little gimmick, could of course be done by inputting a direction on a pad, but this is so intuitive. And on modern (less than 30 years :D) console standard pads, only the Jagpad can do this.

Don't take that out of context.  A better quote was "Open Lara would run like dog shit.  But a fully customized written from scratch Tomb Raider, coded specifically for the Jag's architecture could run at a decent framerate".

The vanilla ports we often got prove this.  Raiden and Pitfall 2 maxing out at 30 frames per second and not being stable at that, are proof.

Indeed. I am a believer that it can run a version of OpenLara optimized for Jaguar. XProger has show interest in doing it but finding a working Jaguar console + the SD cartridge at reasonable costs are (IIRC) factors that's keeping him from doing such task.

As long as this is stable, tight, fast, responsive, reliable, and fun; I'm in.

Yeah. I would like to see Jeffrey taking his time to make a polished release. But i must also say that he should also use BigPEmu to test the Game, as 42bs days.

Can you explain which gameplay mechanics typical of Smash Bros you are planning to implent?

If i had to guess, it means attacks based on directional input rather than standard fighting game special move commands.

Hmm...while not everyone will like the AI-generated graphics, you are making something that has potential. The Jaguar could use more Shmups.

Yeah, not a fan of that aspect but the concept has potential. Sort of reminds me of Vertical Force on Virtual Boy but in a horizontal viewpoint.

I'm right there with you.  I adore shmups.  I play a ton of them, or at least the first 2-3 stages until I get destroyed.  I have a whopping three 1CCs under my belt - Gradius on the PCE, Gradius NES, and Nemesis on the GB.  But there are games like Raiden on the PSX that I've played hundreds of times and can barely make it to the third stage.  It's a torturous existence, being addicted to something you suck at.

And yes, Toothpaste Laser ftw!  There is something about Raiden II that must make it hard to port.  It's one of the most popular entries in the already-beloved classic series, and yet it only got ports to the Playstation and the PC.  The original got a bajillion ports, and Raiden III, IV, and V got several.  Even the Raiden Fighters spinoff got an Xbox 360 compilation and a mobile port.  But Raiden II (and Raiden DX, which is based on Raiden II) keeps getting snubbed.

To replicate the insane level of graphical detail and shrapnel effects of Raiden II on Jaguar would be next to impossible.

Raiden II has not arrived on modern consoles via Arcade Archives yet, likely due to Seibu Kaihatsu using an extremely devilish piracy protection, which i think was the same reason it took years to emulator the game on MAME

  9. It seems that nobody catched this but BB has responded in regards to a Jaguar port, with Songbird Productions offering assistance to port the game on Jaguar.

If anybody follows BB on their account, they posted an imagen of a recent magazine interview they did, where they formally talked about PS1 and GBA versions nearing completion. It seems that they really want to compete against the likes of Doom and Lemmings to see how many consoles they can possibly port their game.

I can't agree that the N64 is $@&%. Anyone that says that either, A) has an extremely limited taste in games, or, B) simply hasn't bothered to explore the library.

I'm not going to sugar coat it though: The reality is, the Nintendo 64 lacks the overall variety of its competition and that is a big problem. There are far less arcade-style games than on the PS1 or Saturn, there are virtually no shmups, there are exactly zero pinball titles, there's not a lot of 2D side-scrolling games, and there are very few actually-2D games in general (which is a massive shame, because the ones it does have do it pretty well). It also lacks in overall fighting game quality, as despite having a lot in the genre, asides from Smash Bros and maybe Mortal Kombat Trilogy, everything available falls in "B" and "C"-tier categories compared to what the Saturn and PS1 has on offer.

That said, the genres it excels at, it truly does to an amazing degree, such as with first-person shooters, 3D platformers and driving games. I've been revisiting its driving game offering in particular lately and I'd go as far to argue that it's the best console for this genre right behind the PlayStation 2. The stock analog stick feels like it was made for it, and it also has a wide variety of styles in the genre, from more sim-oriented releases, to dumb-fun arcade ports (i.e., the Cruis'n series), to quality futuristic racers. The best games on show in particular are still top-tier titles in their respective genres, like Wave Race 64 and F-Zero X.

"$@&%" should be relegated to categorizing systems like the Bandai Apple Pippin, Playdia, Hyperscan, and perhaps Philips CD-i, heh, not the Nintendo 64. Yes, the console is underwhelming in some areas, but it's amazing in others. Credit where credit's due.

Speaking about the N64 library, it seems that it was yesterday or today that Twitter once again declared a day to $#&% on the system. That's their opinion XD

It has to be option B.
