  1. I still have to load up a Linux Pitrex sd card and try that, the baremetal sd image I messed around with that and I am honestly mostly just using it for getting high scores on Vectorblade! (1.9M in case you wonder)

If I was a better C programmer and like, you know, smarter, I'd offer help Graham, but I am not! I am a UNIX sysadmin who tinkers in coding, and I know math up to an 8th grade level or something haha.

  2. Be warned PiTrex is still very much an alpha/beta project and if you think you are just going to pop it in and play arcade games you will be VERY disappointed. If you have no other multicart and want to play the original GCE games and a few Malban homebrews it's fine. If you want to tinker with it and have the programming skills to do stuff, it's there.
It's priced fairly enough so anyone can afford one if they are already a vectrex owner.

  3. as a kid the one Easter egg, if it could be called that, I found was the road off the edge of the screen. You could jump, land at on a small invisible road off screen and drive the whole level on it with no obstacles, but you'd have to time the end of the level  and jump back onto the normal road or your car would crash when the CPU took over control and centers your car onscreen.

it's one of those it might be tomorrow it might be 5 years from now deals at this point. Nothing anyone can do about it, just wait.

  5. Hmm. I purchased Thrust from John Dondzilla at classicgamecreations.com back in 2007. I thought it came with an insert for the screen, and so I spent an hour looking all over the room for it last night (I want to picture it in a game competition over at r/Retrobattlestations) and couldn't find it. I then dug around in email and see that Jonh indicated it doesn't come with an insert and that he was unaware of any being available. I guess it didn't come with one, for me anyway. But I've seen a few photos of an insert in place and it sounds like some of you have one. Is that true?

Does anyone know where I can purchase this insert today?

Also -- how is the mini game activated? It's hidden I suppose. Thanks.

    bp

it never had an overlay, I bought it new on release in Nov 2004 from vectrexcarts.com (Mark Shaker) and it was just a generic videogame case with color cover, cart/pcb/label and small booklet.

  6. I got a chance to play Moon Patrol arcade at Free Play arcade in Providence, RI and it indeed does accelerate faster than Vector Patrol, but um so what :)

Maybe it's a difficulty setting on the arcade board too, I do no know.

  7. Watched it and thought he should have gone into more details on the recap process. The vectrex is different from most other systems in that many of the caps require that you have solder on both the solder side and the component side as apparently there aren't actual vias on the pcb. I learned this myself when I recapped mine and found that the solder didn't flow all the way through because there isn't any material within the via that is there as it is just bare fibre. Console5 also mentions that it is best to solder both sides of the cap to make sure all traces the cap comes in contact with have solder on them.

Also it is worth mentioning that if you have't recapped one before, there are two 220uf caps hiding under the large heatsink on the power board. Those also have to be replaced and to make it easier, you solder them on the backside of the board. This also will increase their lifespan since they aren't under that heatsink oven anymore as the originals were.

    more like Ben Hack, amirite?

  8. i was pretty sure the files to print these with any 3d printing services are out there. i dunno have a 3d printer so i don't know to much about it. i did take the files to print the Shell for the controller and it cost like $100 from the site i checked...

  9. Spuds Revenge.

    Spudster's Revenge:

1 Proto sold on ebay (numbered #0, slightly different code)

14 Developers Editions (only for trade with developers of other vectrex games, and my personal copy, only version with a cover and shell with label, different title screen, slightly different code, only 5 made so far)

100 Bargain Editions, numbered copies just PCB and EPROM or OTP PROM

Free Edition ROM Download, missing all easter eggs. available here http://entropy.tmok.com/~gauze/vectrex/wip/spud_free.bin

    new rare ones:

Karl Quappe Limited edition, I think 11 made with Retail style box, and 4 made with Foil Letter pressed box. (unlimited Packrat edition with clamshell out now too)

Robot Arena (38 made, cart only)

  10. I know it's bad form to bump 12 year old threads but the suggestions here don't work with Turmoil rom I have. it plays in stella when I disassemble it:

    ./distella -pafs -o1 -b -r ./turmoil.bin > turmoil-1.s

(I tried many other command lines too, with and without -c -b -r -f -p)

and then assemble with dasm it I get either a 1030 byte binary (that loaded in stella and just shows a black screen) or 4098 bytes (black screen and that plays a screechy tone in a loop)

    distella is ver 3.01

    dasm is 2.20.11

any help? should I just use another disassembler if so which?

  11.

    Are there different "end credits"?

First time I saw the billboard. Great idea!

I made it past "Z" in the first course giving me the High Score, so I watched the credits.

They used to just cinema scroll from bottom up.

there are at least 2 versions of the credits I have seen.
