  1. On my harmony cart it won't go past first kitteh now!?! I had a version before this one that did that, didn't roll the screen, had the big hearts and reset just as I got close to the kitteh.

Congrats-- bet you're gonna hear that "death" (or near-death) music in your sleep now.

  3. I've had more than a handful of happy Titan Axe buyers! https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1049 !!BEWARE!! MAY BE FRUSTRATING IF YOU CAN'T/WON'T READ THE MANUAL! (some soulless husk hated on it on a terrible website where the reviewer obviously can't read a manual. They attacked the game like it was a piece of trash with no purpose or reason. After realizing that they didn't read the manual at all (or even buy the game more probably) It cooled the sting a little. The reviewer complained that when they pressed the button they expected a sword to pop out or something which clearly indicated that they didn't read the manual. Holding the button jumps. Holding the button while pressing directions swings the weapon in that direction. Up+Fire=Magic, Down+Fire=Special. My wife and I worked tirelessly on coming up with special codes and things hidden within the manual as well as clear instructions for how to play. We even included technique tips and help figuring out secret levels in the game. Much like E.T. or Raiders of the Lost Ark, if you don't have the manual or at least some form of instructions this game will take some figuring out!) I choose to play it regularly, have had a LOT of positive feedback online and locally, and find it very fun and entertaining.
  4. The original 1943 Batman stamped the criminals that he left for police, much in the way that Affleck's Batman "brands" them with a bat symbol.

Did you like Ghostbusters 2016 as well? :)

Ben Affleck is good as Batman, the fight between Batman and Superman is good, the remaining of the movie... I forgot it for sanity.

      There's a Ghostbusters 2016!??!

Honestly, though. I used to cut holes in my dark socks and tie them around my head and run around as Batman (it's been a couple of days, though). The fight between Superman & Batman was taken from the animated movie where Bruce does basically the same thing (only with Green Arrow, a hot chick Robin, and he breaks Clarks jaw then fakes his own death!), and, of course, Doomsday is from the Death of Superman comics although his...

  5. I'm feeling pretty good...
  6. Noice Hope you get it working. LOVE that keyboard. I have a couple of original trash 80s and a Coco 3 I will hopefully upgrade to 512k purty soon. They have a spectacular version of Donkey Kong that works with the upgrade board. There are some very good (looking at least, controls vary) Coco 3 games, too!
  7. We (Old Kentucky Kitty Buttons and I) lived in a small town (Saint Olaf) where there was a man named Rancer (sp?) who had a rental store my mother worked for and so my brother and I would get to watch and play new rentals all the time after school before she got off of work. This guy had the extremely good idea of combining VHS, NES, and FOOOOD and HE DELIVERED!! SO anyone could just call his store up and order strombolis, pizza, drinks, movies, and games all from the same place and they would bring it to your door!! IT WAS AWESOME!! Yeah, the quality of games was in and out but we always had a backup plan. If the game sucked, watch the movie or the other way around. We both remembered that as being one of the big positives in our hometown.
  8. There are two types (as shown). One has a fat end and light rubbery keys, the other has blister buttons. Both operate in exactly the same way. I'm using one modded and sideways like a four button gamepad. I have quite a few of them. I think that one of the most popular uses of the touch pad was to control the menu system in Star Raiders. The feel is very similar to other gamepads and the keys on mine are extremely sensitive. My son likes it and we are using it with a game we are programming together. For me it's a no brainer to use this for games as I get three extra buttons and can configure the pad for several different types of games. Granted a SF2 clone would have trouble. A quarter circle required for fireballs or tornado kicks would be very difficult. I have considered making a replacement top for the touchpad that has a big pad and buttons that are raised. Games that are RPG style, adventure, racing, puzzle, whatever else would work well. A game that never uses diagonals could have the far left keys be up, left, and down from the top down and have the right button be next to the left one in the row (modded this would be '5'). This would leave eight buttons for whatever else you wanted. A game like Castlevania could use the above diagram (my above posted picture) and diagonals would never be a problem as they would have their own button. I use an extension cable as these have awfully short ones.
  9. That game is too good to have been done in BASIC! All BASIC programmers were initialized using this program: 10 have baby 20 drop on head 30 goto 20 run
  10. Rollin' Rollin' Rollin... Man, my screen is rollin'. It rolls while I'm controllin'. CAT HIIIIIIIDE!!!

  12. I really like DPC+. To understand what it does for a VBB programmer we would first talk about the kernel. In this case it offers up a basic set of tools for programming your game. The standard kernel has many options but still many limitations. It can only display two sprites and loses missiles as you add colors. The multisprite kernel mirrors the player 1 (second) sprite allowing for five more sprites, resolution control with pfheight, and loses those pesky lines that top things in the standard kernel. You can only use mirrored playfields with it. DPC+ allows for much higher resolution control , ten sprites, includes inline rand built in (you don't have to jump away to re-seed your randomizer), one pixel per line sprites (others are two pixels per line). It eats up a couple of banks to work, munches memory for breakfast with all of it's high resolution playfields AND backgrounds, and may seem intimidating setting up a programmer with bankswitching out of the gate. This is what it means from the perspective of this VBB programmer.
  13. I just (with the help of my mighty partner) set up a way to use the keypad (touch pad, if you will) sideways like a gamepad with four buttons. The problem with setting it up is that the controller uses one button at a time and always favors the highest number. If you press and hold five and then press two you will still only get five. If you press one and then press three then you will now have three. With the cord on the right the buttons are easily reachable as a gamepad with three side buttons and a center button. When held like this the 1,2, and 3 keys would be the action buttons and would be cancelled out when using directions. SOOO! We found a way to flip a couple of wires around and switch the order of buttons. Now 10,11,and 12 are the far right side buttons and overide all the others, allowing it to be used as a type of gamepad of sorts. I've started programming games that will use this pad. If people are willing to swap four wires (they remove and replace very easily and a kid could easily do this mod) they could use the keypad this way.
  14. Teaching my son VBB! Making a speeder bike game...

  15. Fun! Thanks for this one.
  16. I love the animation and am fishing (he,he) through all the recent changes. I hope the timing is no big deal and we get a big finished version one day soon. This is one of my favorite homebrew projects. KYEWT!!!! SRSLY!!!!!

    Run Out!

YOU CAN DO IT!! It's a pattern! I was thinking of writing a short story like 'My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas.' only one that tells each turn. The cars and turns are all basically the same every time. After one complete circuit there are a couple more cars later in the game. HOMES!! (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior) YOU'LL NEVER FORGET IT!!
  18. Thanks! I am a big (250 lb) fan of Out Run and watched a video about the creation of the Sega scaler to prep for Run Out. The creator announced that after touring the U.S. they could not find enough interesting things to turn into roadside or background graphics. This was when Out Run became a hodgepodge of less regional and more worldly backdrops and roadsides (uh...windmills)! I wanted to approach this idea from a more isolated persective. Where tourists or immigrants may find some of the icons less "US of A-American-regional", or at least European (The Statue of Liberty is french, Monument Valley is often tied to Native Americans, Casinos are everywhere, etc.), I hope that most of us will see the obvious 'this-is-the-U.S.A' plastered all over the game. I will be posting a playable demo of Street Fight World DPC+ very soon and a screen-saver-like demo of two other versions I'm working on as well! I've been having great success with the Standard Kernel in reducing the overhead on the playfields while still keeping the resolution up (even higher than the DPC+ version at times) , although there is a great reduction in the number of colors. While every character is drawn with two frames alternating each half, I have done this with the playfields as well allowing for control over playfields for every screen. This coupled with pfheights (without pfcolors) has yielded some very interesting results. All of the characters are larger in the Standard (even larger than the zoomed single pixel variants) kernel. There are more backgrounds and I have changed two of the original cast. Now for the 'this-guy-is-still-nuts-and-I-remember-him' moment.. I'm also making a third version using the Multisprite kernel in a way that should make RT wet his rubber underwear!!! (the sprites are AWESOME!!)

    Run Out!

Much has changed in Run Out since the last download... The game is thoroughly shaded now and looks much better. After completing a circuit you are rewarded with fireworks. There are three fireworks displays and then the game ends with a special winning screen!! (Three completions and you WIN!!) There are also a few more cars on the second and third circuits. This game is basically ready for a cart and is super fun in my opinion. Fire is gas Left/Right Steers Up shifts (after first two slower gears automatically shift) Holding down is brakes Lightly tapping down in high gear once changes the high gear engine noise Color/BW turns "music" off and on The difficulty switches change the car's color (whenever you want to change them). Try it on your Harmony Cart TODAY!! RunOut.bin
  20. I'll be posting new demos of Street Fight World very soon. I've gotten AI and hit bars in place and am working out a few final tweaks. The DPC+ version demo (foreshadowing) will not have every single move or all of the options intended for the final game. Some of the AI can be crazy at times, but, at the very least, the versus mode should be a fun two-player freebie. I'm also making a non-DPC+ version of this game in 32k. It will have more backgounds and characters. I'm having a great time teaching my son BASIC and he has been watching me code both games and is giving input. I really like using pfheights and am using it for the Standard Kernel version. Please check out my latest version of Run Out (Harmony cart ready)!!!
