  1. Cool! I downloaded the .asm so later on I can test out my new headache medicine (..and so it wouldn't look like people run from machine code *skipping gingerly) . jk You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him HMOVE without WSYNCing.
  2. I think about things like this a lot. One must take into account how sprites are drawn beyond the VCS. 256k would help with game complexity, but you'd still be stuck with 4k for graphics. What I'm getting at is (and I've yammered about this before) that people compare one version of a game to another without considering the processes by which the systems display the games and their limitations. I think the Atari has some advantages over systems that use real sprite data as your using smaller, single or low color lines for characters rather than complex multicolored bitmaps (although the complex multicolored 'sprites' I make on the VCS cause it to cough up rainbows in 8k!).
  3. You can even take them out of other junk systems. I'm pretty sure the NES has the same or compatible. (if that's what it is.) Maybe post a dl of the game for others to try on other televisions? If this is first time you've seen your program on real hardware I would say it's likely some issue in timing that is invisible to an emulator. If it's the regulator it's a super easy fourth grade "Learn How To Solder" project.
  4. I like to make sprites and playfields in notepad...
  5. The DPC+ kernel is just begging for a Final Fight-like game. I'm sure I'll be making something like that in the very near future. Thanks! (I just realized that the second download (the one with the Cody clone) is my 8K version. It will eventually be 32K. I was seeing how small I could make it without the music or many of the moves.)
  6. ...WOW! Time flies. I was about to put that stuff all up and saw a ARM error pop up. I've changed many things around since then (getting rid of unnecessary gosubs (GOSUB ALL THE TINGS!!). This is the version I WAS going to upload WAAAY back then. You too can CRASH the ARM chip!! FUN!! NOW IS THE TIME TO THE ARM HEART ON FIRE!! Really it only happens when Blossom (Sakura) is freaking out on you. The A.I. is obviously not perfected yet. You can basically rip someone down with one well placed Dragon Uppercut. The game resets when one side or the other wins (this is what it's supposed to do for now, but may lead to accidentally starting up as Way (Ryu) suddenly). It jitters a bit still (what I'm working with now has almost zero jitters, although is scrapbooked all over the place and not even ready to try out). B/W - Color switch turns off/on music (all three stages will have their own songs). Reset usually works. Ryu (Way), Ken (Edge), and Sakura (Blossom) have charge down uppercuts by holding down for a couple of seconds and then pressing fire. Blanka (White) also does a charge spin that requires you to hold down and the button (no release of the button is programmed yet). Many moves are still missing and Chun-Li (Lotus) is still mostly inactive. Hit bars work!! Kind of... A hit will register with certain characters (maybe only left side characters) after the fire button has been pressed again, after the initial attack. So a quarter circle towards plus fire still throws a fireball and it still hits them, but the damage won't appear until you hit the button again for left side characters. This is obviously being worked on. SFWDPC.bas.bin Now here is an example of how this all may be attempted without the DPC+ Kernel. SFW32k.bas.bin There are more backgrounds and different characters. This game can actually be played although no move animations are programmed. Pressing a direction with the button will choose or change the character. Two players can be activated. Holding the button will cause the character to attack (scoot forward and cause damage) Here is a cute little screensaver I made using the multisprite kernel. I would say that it could be used for something like Street Fight World, but really it's just cute and fun to look at. I may use this for an RPG I'm working on or whatever. MKSF.bas.bin
  7. Ahhhh, back when imagination had something to do with playing games (any games, really).
  8. Yeah, I printed the manual and have referenced the page a few times, too. The stuff is exciting. Your DPC+ kernel startup is also very useful.
  9. Remember, this is a home computer system! Everything gets plugged into the back. (...and, if you're an Inty, does taxes, teaches you different languages, and is tomorrows 16-Bit talking HAL tapedeck!!)
  10. Beep Repaired.

  11. Been playin' LOTS of SEGA! Playin' the Mega Drive Sonic the Hedghog with an Atari joystick (start then swap), then some Miracle Warriors for the Japanese Master System (or just look at the cartridge and blink)..

  12. Eh... NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER SURRENDER!! If you need any advice or help with understanding programming I would love to help. I'm currently teaching some of my kids BASIC and love to talk about the ideas we come up with. Even if you are quitting for a bit, don't give up forever.
  13. This is one of my favorite recent homebrews. I showed my kids and a couple of friends and they thought it was so cool. I played the old download again just recently. Sweet!
  14. Porky's pulled me in. It yanked me really. You don't mind having to repeat a certain screen over and over and over and over again. It's Hi def.
  15. I LOVE Black cart TENGEN games! YEESSSSSSS!!

First baseball game with save and stat controls, Gauntlet, Afterburner, Alien Syndrome, Tetris, Pirates, Shinobi, Rolling Thunder, Fantasy Zone, so many more! I would pick a design like theirs for my own cartridges.

  16. Do NOT look directly into one. Don't blow one (into one). Sheew, assuredly don't drop one (sniff...).
  17. OH LOOK! Someone has the billions to bully broke creative people! Maybe Nintendo is just mad that it can't do anything about China and it's absent copyright laws, or that they aren't making much (other than free publicity) off of Pokemon GO! I'm about finished with all of these Nintendo worshipers, too! Nintendo made cool characters but I haven't bought much from them since the Wii (remote controlled Gamecube). I don't like how the guy says not to hate on them (paraphrasing) and lick their boots and grovel at them for raising you. SCREW THEM! FOR REALS! I will play a freaking NES or SNES if I want to have a 'Nintendo experience'! Turn her red and call her Blam-us, make a permanent hot-coffee mod, give it away! The only reason Nintendo is doing this is because it shows how powerful they are and reminds you that you have to go to them for anything that remotely looks like a game from thirty years ago. MEH! (I've been watching these NES worshipers recently on YouTube comparing the NES and the Neo-Geo to a husband cheating (with the NG) on his wife (the NES) and I'm sure it's pushed me over the edge!!) LONG LIVE SEGA!! LONG LIVE ATARI!! KICK OUT THE PLUMBER AND DRIVE A FERRARI!!
  18. I just tell the editor in VBB to be the size of the background I'm going to make. When you get into large backgrounds it can be odd. Things get really skinny and then appear wide when on screen. When starting with Street Fight World I used massive backgrounds which ate up room so there was nothing left for characters. After scaling things down I was happy with twenty-two row screens.
  19. Sometimes you eat the beam and, well, sometimes the beam, it eats you! (personally, I say if it looks good on real hardware then that's what's important. That's me, though. Some people don't ever even use real stuff anymore.)
  20. Yup. It doesn't roll at all! It won't get past the very beginning of the game. I start up and move but right as I approach the first animal it resets to the title screen.
  21. Do you think they asked them not to set up so that people would spend more at the venue or did they move where they set up?
