  1. Hello all,

I am modding a Wii for my kids for Christmas. We have an Atari 2600 set up in the play room and it has been a hit. One just turned 5 and the other 3 and I think we can safely broaden the exposure to NES games, so...

If anyone can direct me a to a good set of NES ROMs it would be much appreciated. Not interested in hacks, mods, homebrew or obscure famicom-type stuff. A solid compilation of officially released US games would be rad. I can curate from there.

    Thanks!

  2. Congratulations! You get +1 "I wanna be popular" points for parroting mindless statements that have been argued ad nauseum for the last 15 years on every classic gaming board known to man.

For the extra +5 bonus points please tell us how:

    A. E.T. caused the gaming crash

    B. Atari should have sold the NES when Nintendo offered it to them

    C. The Jaguar was (or was not) a 64-Bit system.

+ 2K Monies if you can work some C-64 or Amiga bashing into your argument.

    Tempest

WOW! Someone's underwear is too tight today. Here is a list of my own:

    1) I only just joined your precious forum two days ago.

    2) Was the Comic Book Guy on the Simpson's based on you? If you read your post with that voice, it sounds just like him.

    3) I didn't post to be popular. I am popular enough with my newly found Air Raid cart. Which I now wear on a gold chain around my neck. Nerd Bling!

Air Raid is super common and is so much worse than Pac-Man... I recommend you destroy it with a hammer and post a video for us all to see ;)

  3. I got a few, my favorite was Super Mario 64, though I don't have that many. Think I got one of the Banjokazooie or something soundtracks and Tempest 2k.

Of course, I got CD's where I ripped the music from SACD and Saturn discs....but they probably don't count :P (Scud was my favorite of those)

I was happy the day I found out my Sega Saturn Alien Trilogy disc opened in iTunes!

  4. Not to get too far off topic, but I've seen collectors with plastic cases around their loose games (single game cases).

Does anyone know where these can be found?

    Thanks!

I've been looking for loose cartridge cases as well. I have my Chase the Chuck Wagon in two sandwich size ziplocs, LOL. It's not that pretty to look at but keeps the dust out I guess.

For loose carts I use bags that I found in the craft section at Wal Mart. I guess they're supposedly used for beads or other small crafty things, but they snugly fit Atari 2600 carts and more loosely fit Intellivision carts. They were super cheap, too (about $3)...though I don't remember how many came in the package.

  5. I've bought a ton of comic book bags from this guy on Ebay:

    eBay Store: The-Comic-Zone1?ff3=11&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&store=The-Comic-Zone&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

Nice... which size comic bags fit the Atari 2600 games best without a lot of slack? I like the thicker "shell" type in the first response but to be honest the games are probably equal to or less valuable than the covers ;)

Hmm. I can't remember off hand. I just moved so most of my 2600 stuff is in boxes. I'll have to see if I can find the package of bags I have and get back to you. I'm 90% sure that I use paperback sized bags though.

I know moving is a pain, but if you get a chance to confirm the paperback size that would be great. I'd like to place an order and get these organized, but I don't have a local comic shop where I can specifically test bags/games. Thanks again

  6. So I just dropped by because I thought I remembered collecting supplies being in the store, but I can't find them.

I recently came into possession of a significant number of boxed 2600 & 7800 games and would like to get some plastic bags/covers for them. Does anyone know where I could find such a thing, or what might work best? Currently I keep my boxed NES games in ziplock freezer bags because they're the perfect size, but Atari games are just slightly too big. I'm not above re-purposing in such a way if anyone knows something that will work that I can pick up at a local store. Sorry if this has been covered recently!

  7. It's a dream for many, unattained by most.

Have you every contributed to the production of a video game? Anything counts, from artwork to manufacturing to "additional programming".

If you have, on what title(s) did you work?

    If not, why not?

If AtariAge counts as commercial, then yes...I did the artwork and logo for Marble Craze. I also did an illustration for Go Fish (attached, copyright 2005 Daryl Litts Design) that I never posted, but wish that I had...I didn't check the site for a while and just missed the deadline. That's what I get for neglecting AA.

  8. Hi all,

I have a TON of old comics, mostly from the mid-80s to early 90s, and some from the 70s. I want to get rid of them ALL, but don't want to do it on eBay. SO, since I'm willing to trade them for video games I don't have (all systems from Atari to GameCube), I figured I'd give my brethren on AtariAge first dibs. If you have a comics want list, please email it to me with your trade list of video games and we'll work something out!

    Thanks

  9. I use the entire Adobe Creative Suite 2.0. With Marble Craze I only used Illustrator, but these days I use a mix. My submission for Start-O-Gems used Illustrator and InDesign, but I did have a label for Go Fish that I did in Photoshop. As a graphic designer these are the only programs I trust to work in consistently, but low-tech works fine. When I first started learning graphic design, we used a program similar to MS Paint on Atari computers!

  10. I tried selling it on eBay but I never got paid. It is clean and does work. It is in excellent condition, showing only very minor storage wear. It is missing the end label, but I put a temporary label on it just so I could tell where it was on my shelf. You can remove it easily if you wish to replace it.

I'd like to trade for games of similar rarity. Please send me your lists.

  11. Do yourselves a favor and don't buy anything from "America.United (america.united@gmail.com)" on eBay. I paid them $230 US over a week ago to get a Pink Nintendo DS for my fiance for Christmas. They had 46 of when I purchased it. I know because they were selling around 50 and I was watching them sell. Just today I received an email saying that they are "out of stock", after I emailed them twice to yell at them since they charged me a ridiculous $20 for shipping and never sent me anything. Bull. How do they run out when there are 40-something left *after* I bought mine, and I paid immediately by PayPal! I suspect he sold it to someone who offered him more money after I bought it. Then he threatened to leave negative feedback if I left a negative for him... Since eBay allows such arseholery to go unchecked, I just figured I'd get this off my chest in some sort of minor revenge for ruining my honey's Christmas. So PLEASE, as a favor to me, do not buy anything from the jerk known as America.United on eBay.

    Thanks for your time,

    Rev

  12. I didn't read through the whole thread but I'm curious if there will be a winner chosen from the entries submitted prior to the deadline. It didn't sound like any were quite what the programmer was looking for. Mine is the second from the top on the entries page. I'd like to say that I can alter the font style or any other elements if it is chosen; all drawing and effects were generated in vector format so everything is completely editable.

  13. I shouldn't make promises I can't keep!  Okay, today is Friday; I will post finalists either Saturday night or Sunday night.  I'm still not 100% sure how much ROM I have to devote to rankings and extra icons, so that will decide how many I'll use. All the finalist submissions will be in the game ... and of those, 3 folks will win prizes.

EDIT -- ARGH, it is Sunday night already!  Another broken promise!  Sorry, I'm trying to get to it but I'm very busy with real-world stuff.

Video games are an escape from life, not a replacement for it...take care of your real-world stuff first...we'll still be here!

BANG A RANG! Check out dem icons!

Thanks everybody... I really didn't think my knight would get that much attention... he was the last thing I submitted, on the last day of the competition, and I finished him in less than an hour... I wasn't even going to submit it. I'm glad I did now. I also sent along a picture of a few variations for his shield and pretty much gave Ron carte blanche to do what he wanted with it (I've included a pic here so you guys can see some of the options). My earlier submissions were the ones I took way too much time on... like the square-headed guy and the shiny shield (I've included a variation on that as well).

That knight animation rules!  8)

It would be cool to see it get used in a VCS game.  :ponder:

Some other icons I liked, that don't fit into any category, are Ben Langberg's first helmet design, Daryl Litts' little guys (especially the ones brandishing swords), Randy Ball's submissions (all of them cool, but some of them downright weird), and Sean Ohlson's knight. I tried to make a forward facing character with a shield as well and it was a total nightmare to get it looking passable... so Sean gets props for making it work so well.

Thanks, I tried to keep my little dudes lo-res so the icon would be more maneuverable in the game. I didn't make animations of any of them; although if one is chosen I'm hoping the small size will allow for it in the programming (I also left the color nondescript so that if any are chosen, a color can be decided). My favorites are Juston and Jacob's Knights.
