  1. Does anyone know if some kind of test software exists for the Jaguar?  If not, would any of the awesome dev's here be able to help?  The tools we're most looking for are (in this order):

    - All white screen at 100% brightness.

    - 100% color bar screen - This would accomplish the exact same thing as all white screen when testing voltage, but could also help with color checking.

    - Sound test where you can select Left, Right and Center to test the audio output.

In a perfect world, we'd have the 240p Test Suite, as well as MDFourier ported to every console in existence, but that's a lot of work.  I was hoping someone hear knew of basic tools like they that already existed...or maybe someone would be gracious enough to just write a single ROM with either the 100% white screen, or 100% color bars.  I'll be happy to host the file if needed and would gladly write a post to promote it.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

  2. Has anyone tried these?:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/202565018172

I have the aftermarket replacements from a few years ago that were decent, but they're no longer made.  I figured if there were any good alternatives available, here would be the place to ask!

  3. I can't speak for the other guys on the Roundtable, but personally I would love to see this project funded. More importantly, actions speak louder than words: The news section of my site has covered the project multiple times and each post gets talked about in the weekly podcast which gets thousands of views/listens per week.

Maybe rather than get upset, just reach out directly? Anyone that's worked with me before will vouch for me.

I'm not subscribed to this topic and I don't have time to follow it (no offence meant, just swamped), so if anyone needs me, contact me directly.

  4.

Yes, there will be for 2. I'll drop you a PM and sort this out.

Current status is stuck in customs at Kennedy NY -- anyone else had issues with customs? I'm pretty sure the last time I had post vanish into the customs system was at Kennedy as well, it did eventually make it out several weeks later.... but bloody hell was it slow and a PITA.

Packages get stuck there all the time, sometimes for weeks. Then, one day, they just magically appear at your door. It's annoying, but there's nothing you can do.

  5. So, you're calling someone an "uptight frenchie" and claiming he wanted a soapbox because he wrote a blog post filled with facts? Right. Gotcha.

What's that guy on about, making a fire where there's barely a spark in the breeze? How many systems across various flash kit devices out there can you prove really bit the big one using an everdrive or some other like product? I get it with bad voltage regulation on crap cheap 80s, 90s and now multicarts out of china, but the kits?

I'm about to get my hands on a good deal for a super everdrive and it's on that uptight frenchies kill list. $60 with a sd card in it already shipped.

Or some voltage issue taking down an old console I would imagine too. I think the guy wanted a soap box and found it.

Debating mentally that $60 deal, it lacks the DSP and I can't solder that mess in there myself. It means no Pilotwings and Mario Kart, but I own the carts anyway so it's not the end of the world too, just as I have the other chipped games I'd care to bother with from the US.

  6. And I found something else fairly random out while hacking with the NGP BIOS. If you set the game version to 0xfffe it doesn't display the startup sequence and goes straight into the game. You can modify any cart, just set the bytes of the ROM image at 0x20/0x21 to 0xfe/0xff.

Is that something that can be added as a menu option?

  7. A little more seriously, if it had been possible to support the Game Boy Advance with currently "affordable" FPGAs, I would have envisioned the possibility of you starting a new project with Analogue to create a sequel to the Analogue NT Mini, one that would have featured a Game Boy cartridge port instead of Famicom/NES cartridge ports. It could have supported GB, GBC and GBA games, and it could sport the same NES controller ports (although the GBA shoulder buttons would be a slight problem, now that I think about it...). Anyway, a nice little console to play GB/GBC/GBA carts on the living room HDMI TV. :)

    Just daydreamin'...

What you're asking for is already in the works and will use a SNES controller: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=56870

  8. re: the galaxy of controllers possible to use on cores: I don't have time right now to add half a dozen controllers to every core unfortunately. I need to get the rest of these cores converted before I run out of time. Deadlines on paid stuff are fast approaching so I am trying to get the last few cores released before that hits. So unfortunately I can't do a lot of controller adding and stuff yet. Eventually I hope to go back and add more options and things but for now I don't have the time.

    So, just to be clear:

Rather then deal with altering the code for all the cores to support the rare Famicom controllers with the number pads, you created the PS2 adapter that people can make themsleves, or soon buy. This will allow people to use standard NES controllers to play all the games from each core and any time a number press is required, they can just hit the button on the keyboard. Did I get that right? Seems like the perfect solution to me.

...also, I think you forgot to update the 1st post with this latest firmware :)
