  1. If I buy one can I use any 9 pin joystick with this like atari 2600 joystics or only digital ones. I ordered a 5200 off ebay and should arrive in a few days so I need to know.

I bought one of the smaller ones and have used Atari 2600 joysticks, Atari 7800 joysticks, Sega Genesis game pads and Sega Master system pads with it and all worked great. I believe all of those are digital controllers (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I don't have any 9 pin analog joysticks to test it with.

  2. Loved atari 5200 as a kid Gave it away so don't have it anymore. Maybe I'll get a used one if I find a good deal. In the mean time the controllers are a big issue.

The red buttons on the side of the stock 5200 controller always used to stop working after a while. Was impossible to play jungle hunt. And missle command never worked either because of this. Plus the centering problem so this was a bad deal back then. But nobody ever said anything.

However I never knew others existed until recently. So the question is this.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 3704735583741?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=370473558374&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

The description is very vague and no contact link. I saw one 2600 keypad thing on google but I think the keypad was 5200 only mostly if I remember. But want to make sure it is 5200 cuz I don't plan on getting anything else besides 5200. Already have too much junk in my basement.

So does anyone recognize this? Is this 5200 compatible?

That controller is for the Colecovision and won't work on the Atari 5200. They're 2 third party joysticks for the 5200 that are excellent but kinda expensive. The Wico Command has a separate keypad and can be used self centering or non- self centering via switches on the bottom of the stick. It also can be used in conjunction with a 5200 controller to use the keypad via the Y cable (if you buy one these make sure the Y cable is included). The competition Pro is a digital joystick that requires a least a 5200 joystick with working Start, Reset and Pause buttons.

Another option would be the Masterplay Interface (if you can find one) which lets you use a 2600 joystick on the 5200.

Hope this helps and welcome to AA.

  3. I just finished Uncharted 2 over Christmas break and the first one a week prior to that. I have to say these 2 games left me wanting more and would definitely recommend them to anyone that has a PS3. I can't wait till 3 comes out. Are there anymore games similar to the Uncharted style of game play?

  4. Please say this will be ready for purchase soon. PSX controller on 5200 will be amazing...

    it will probably cost $100

I am willing to pay twice that myself icon_wink.gif , the 5200 is by far my most played and favorite system and the PS2 controller to me is the most comfortable to use for longer playing times.

  5. Buy the one that Atari sold. They are not that expensive.

Where can I get one? It certainly hasn't been an all consuming quest, but I've never found any available. Even when checking out Robotron and Space Dungeon games which are advertised as "complete in package" I get told that the controller holder is not present.

If you live in the US, I have one I would sale for $15 shipped.

  6. I bought a lot of 5200's for parts and among them were two 5200's sold as non working, one of which I managed to get working after several tries but unfortunately that one didn't make the trip without some damage to the plastics. The other one powers up, but only to a green screen. Nothing plays on it. Has anyone seen this before? They are both two port models if it makes a difference. I'll probably just put the motherboard of the working one into the case of the non working one if repairs are more than just something simple.

(Believe it or not, I think the other one wasn't working because it had the wrong power supply with it. Someone was trying to use a power supply from an A8 or some other piece of Atari equipment instead of the one that says for the 5200 only. The power outlet was also a bit corroded so I think after inserting the power plug a few times it scraped enough of the gunk off to make contact again.)

I had one do the exact same thing a while back and it had 2 bad RAM chips. Luckily they were in sockets and replacement was simple from a donor 5200. Don't know if that's the problem with yours though but it wouldn't hurt to try if both 5200's RAM's are socketed.

  7. Just my .02 cents. Seems to be a lack of interest compared to Atari Tris... And, again just my .02 cents, but seems way pricey for this game, especially considering it's not even the original name and label.

Yep I noticed. Can't sell it as Combat 2 anymore though. icon_smile.gif

Oh well, I'll just limit this run to 20, which means there are only 6 left.
