As someone who was a young teen at the time of the crash I can say most certainly me and my friends vastly reduced the amount of time we spent playing games. New console game releases slowed and then stopped altogether. The magazines we subscribed to went bi-monthly and then folded. My parents were too poor to afford a computer and my rural, small town school had a total of 3 computers so that wasn’t an option. Personally I went back to riding bike, hiking, reading books, and watching Hammer horror movies on the weekend. I recall the first time I saw a Nintendo commercial and I was shocked that anyone would attempt to market a video game system. In my mind the hobby had run its course. Of course I eventually fell in love with the NES but that love ended when I lost my virginity.

Missed out again.... to many things going on right now
I had nothing going on but I apparently miscalculated the time difference and failed to procure a copy.

Maybe modding this console isn't that big of a deal if the RF cable is high quality. I've ordered one of those a/v cables from best buy, i'm going to test this console out and see how good it looks. First I need a game. I saw this one on ebay called cosmic raiders and it says reproduction. Is this a homebrew or was it a commercial release?
It is a reproduction of a rare game. I own a copy and it is the game in screenshot a couple of posts prior to this one. There is also a prototype version which I do not own. For some reason the Astrocade is the only system I have that I just don’t need to own original copies of the games.

Yes, the 1505A. I always assumed the company name indicated a cheap product but I was wrong. They are made to order in Seattle, WA, using Belden brand cable. I believe they have a money back guarantee. I just wish the Astrocade didn’t have a hard wired cable because I prefer the option of choosing which interconnects I use. Here is a random video of their shop in action.

What is your opinion on the channel F? I thought of having that modded too but with good composite. But perhaps like you said, depending on what tv I use, it may display clean pictures? What if I use like the thickest best quality a/v coaxial cable you get at best buy?

Unfortunately I must ask to have my name withdrawn from the list.

Plenty of great information to get started. Thank you very much.

Awesome thanks? I have Basic. Am I going to have to type programs in line by line like we did way back then?

Well I am not sure how I managed to post in the manner in which I just posted. Anyway this is my first time interacting with an Astrocade in person. I grew up in the country so I did not have access to the upper scale stores where, as I understand, the Astroscan was mainly sold. I did, however, have access to many magazines and was able to read about the system. Having said that my first question is: Where should begin learning about my Bally Arcade?

Congratulations on getting a Bally Arcade/Astrocade. I hope to see you posting questions and letting us know what you think of the system. If you have AstroBASIC, then you'll be able to try hundreds of programs. Hopefully the Astrocade multicart is still available to purchase.

Thank you. I obviously need games but how should about learning all I can’t about my new aquisition?

A recent health scare has inspired me to purchase some of the more elusive systems of my youth. I managed to acquire this Bally in near mint condition with no scratches and damn near no dust. One of the controllers is still sealed. I’m running it through an Aurora V Tune into a Sony PVM 20m2md. Picture is soft stable and fairly clean. Apparently the Aurora will also output component so maybe I need to acquire some component cables.
For whatever reason I could not get a decent screenshot.

Several copies of Vector Pilot are available on eBay and the seller is located in Belgium. Judging by the description the seller is probably Kristof himself. I have no experience with the seller but you might want to send him a message.

Wow, that sucks. Fortunately I had the opposite experience. Ok James was a week late on his promised completion date but he was very apologetic and I have no complaints with quality of his work.

Greetings Everyone. Long time stalker of these forums. A little background … I was born in 1961 and lived the glory days of Atari first hand. A few years ago I decided to go back and re-acquire the video game systems of my youth and now have EVERY major console released by Atari, Nintendo , Sega, Sony and Xbox. I even have a Magnavox Oddessy 2 and a 3DO.
Anyway, the last console I got was the Atari 5200. It has two working controllers ( I know, I should consider myself lucky and just stop there ) but from all I've heard I figured it wise to pick up a Wico Command & Control 5200 controller. My problem is this:
I knew the controller I ordered on ebay was missing the y-adapter by the listing and discussions with the seller. No problem, there was a Y-adapter for sale as well from a different seller and the controller I got at a really good price. Unfortunately I clicked the buy button on the controller before the adapter and when I went to buy the adapter it was no longer available.
I'm assuming that the Wico controller cannot plug directly into the console as the seller's pictures appear to show it is a 9 pin connector ( I have not received the controller yet … trying to be a bit pro-active here LOL Also, I do know it is the 5200 model ). Is there any other way or adapter out there that will work ? I do have a Trackball controller ( the big official two player one ). I also know that the Very Rare Wico Keypad controller has a jack on it but the only one I can find is $149 for one untested. Thanks in Advance to any who look into this for me and/or respond.
I have an extra Y cable. Make me an offer if you wish to purchase it.

Thanks to everyone. I ordered the UP version for $34.71 shipped.

I believe shipping is cheaper if you just order the UAVs directly from TBA's website store vs ebay.

Do I want the DOWN plug-in or the UP plug-in?

Thank you gentlemen. My current mod is malfunctioning so I was ready to take it into service at my LGS so this seemed like an ideal time to inquire about improving PQ. I actually know how to use a soldering iron but I am just not confident enough to attempt the mod myself.

If the composite mod you purchased from Bryan is the UAV then that board already has s-video output available on it, provided you wire it to an s-video jack to use it.
For most of my 80s based systems, I've felt that s-video was plenty for me. I've seen 2600 games through emulation and even on the retron77 and sure they are even more clear, but honestly with as pixel huge as these games are due to their lower resolutions of the day, s-video is again plenty for me in most cases.
The sophia is still available I believe but I think there is a newer version of it being made/developed. I've never installed one or used it, but I think there are some compatibility issues with certain displays not liking it? I could be wrong on that but I want to say that is some of what I've read about it in the past.
So aside from the sophia, the UAV (That is the board that Bryan developed and sold for quite sometime here), there really aren't any other options for better than composite.
I checked some of my old messages and it appears Bryan sold me the "plug-in" version of his board. Is this s-video compatible?

I recently lucked into a really nice Sony PVM14M2U for only a $100. I really love how my Genny looks via a HD Retrovision cable but all my other systems are composite and are lacking in comparison. Here are my questions:
1. I currently use the composite mod I purchased from AA member Bryan several years ago. Is it possible to extract s-video from the same hardware?
2. When it comes to pre crash systems is s-video "close enough" to rgb or is rgb still worth the trouble?
3. I am aware that there is a RGB mod called Sophia that can extract rgb from the 5200. Is this still available? If so, how can this be purchased?
4. Is there a schematic available that I can provide for "my guy" to help him install Sophia?
5. What cable do I need to connect to a PVM?

I'm no expert but the listing resembles closely the image that is in the Atari Age 5200 archives. I would certainly request additional images before considering a purchase. I have seen repro carts on Ebay and none of them resembled the carts that claimed to be authentic.

Again, I call the video game crash "bullsh*t".
