  1. When I was a kid and had Atari Greatest Hits on the Nintendo DS and Atari Anthology on the PS2, Star Raiders was one of my favorite 2600 games...then I got a 2600 jr. off of Ebay and discovered Starmaster. The 2600 version of Star Raiders isn't bad, just simple. I wish they did more with the galactic map other than using it to make quick pitstops like the 8-bit original did. Also, why did they make the video touch pad for Star Raiders when the controller works the same as the keyboard controller?
  2. When I bought my 600xl, it had a bad SALLY chip and I'd wager that the ingot power supply it came with was the cause. You should steer clear of any power supply that is enclosed within an epoxy and plastic coffin because they WILL go bad and take your computer with it. The XEGS power supply works fine, but I've since built a USB power cord and never looked back.
  3. Nintendo finally brought back F-Zero...as a battle royale game. It's surprising not as dumb as it sounds, in fact, I find F-Zero 99 to be really addicting. Does anyone else on here play this game? Do you think Nintendo is going to do more with F-Zero now that F-Zero 99 is introducing more people to the franchise?
  4. Do not store important color data in your NES game as magic numbers! This has been a public service announcement brought to you by the Department of Programmer Sanity.

As opposed to defining constants? That's a lesson I have to hammer home often with a couple of my python students. Source code space is uber cheap now and it doesn't affect memory space used by the running program, so why would someone not want to use descriptive names for variables and constants?

I have no idea what you guys are on about...Magic numbers?...Ummm is that like a "Safe Word"?

It means you should assign a name to your numbers in your programs, as opposed to leaving unexplained number scattered throughout your code.

  5. If this certificate issue has done one thing, it's that it made me use Edge for once since I can actually bypass the warning there.

What did you set tls.version.min and max to?

I'm back in too (if you see my message for help, Al). In my case, it wasn't the certificate issue stopping me, it was my own poor record-keeping!

@Albert I set Max to 4 and Min to 0.

  6. Got my Purple Pi Eater in today. Now I need to get a cartridge board to put it in. Where did you guys order your PCBs?
  7. Can anyone recommend me a good replacement screen for a Game Boy Pocket? The polarizer on mine seems to be coming apart at the middle.
  8. Probably to people like me who keep looking at these threads out of morbid curiosity.
  9. I payed around $10 for Choplifter and $19 for the PBC.
  10. Bought a homebrew Power Base Converter and Choplifter because Master Systems and official converters are too expensive these days.
  11. I think I have a bunch of those in a drawer somewhere. Better get cracking!
  12. I've played through Pikmin 3 Deluxe on the Switch and have the first Pikmin on the Wii. So far I've gotten to the part in 4 where you can go on night expeditions. I definitely like how you can upgrade your character and buy items and how the game feels less linear than Pikmin 3. The dandori battles remind me of Herzog Zwei.
  13. Bought a second round of games a few days ago with Pac-Man Collection HOKEY version and Astro Blaster. I also bought Starfire and Draconian today since they were still available and I still had some money left in my budget.
  14. I was looking at my Star Ship gate-fold box when I noticed this bit of text on the side of the back. First of all, I didn't know that the box was Canadian. Second, who is Paragon Entertainment Products Inc? I did a bit of Googling and the closest thing I found was this: https://www.avid.wiki/Paragon_Entertainment_Corporation I have no clue if Paragon Entertainment Products and Paragon Entertainment Corporation are related. I found another company named Paragon Entertainment, but this one were founded in 1981 in Toronto, so they may be completely separate firms. Does anyone know anything else about this company? Also, does anyone else have boxes with this blurb on the back?
  15. Once I played this version, I could never go back to the older cartridge release. It gets even better when you play it with a trak-ball.
  16. You can get more continues by completing levels without losing a life or by spelling PLOK. The problem is not only does that get really hard to do in the later levels, but also using a continue sets you back to the level you obtained it. I would love to get a physical copy of Plok for the music alone, but I'd just end up playing it on my RetroPi so I can save my progress.
  17. I haven't played my 7800 in a long time, so I lost track of the power supply for it. Me being me, I figured that I would just get a new one after buying Baby Pac-Man not realizing that they cost $40 minimum! Better start looking.

  18. According to this ad from Run Magazine, the company who made Quick Brown Fox is literally just called The Quick Brown Fox Company.
  19. First time buying homebrew from the store, so I mostly stuck with some of the popular choices. The games I bought were Baby Pac-Man, Crazy Balloon, and Colony 7 Trak-Ball version. It's kind of strange how the trak-ball version of Colony 7 is slightly cheaper than the regular version.
  20. I've come to distract HardWork from his hard work!
  21. I'm certainly looking forward to this. I've been looking for a cheap multicart solution for a long time. Maybe you could make the voltage regulator an optional part for those who want to "bullet-proof" their PicoCart?
  22. I've always considered The Great American Cross-Country Road Race to be a sequel to Enduro. They have so much in common that it makes me wonder why they didn't just call it Enduro 2?
  23. There's also Atari 'Toons. Although, ATASCII Animator is probably more advanced considering Atari 'Toons is a BASIC type-in program. https://www.atarimagazines.com/v4n4/toons.html
