I just noticed that this thread is a year old now.

I'm pretty sure the joystick worked on those purely because I just so happened to have the cable positioned right when I tested them before making this thread. In fact, I just tested the CX40 on the 600xl again and got it work fine as long as I have it positioned right.

I kinda doubt that it's the PCB, as I have to mess with the cable to get the up contact to work. I would still try using another PCB, but I don't have another PCB to test with.

After a bit more testing, I've came to the conclusion that the joystick has a faulty cable. Anybody know where to get a replacement cable?

I first heard of the 2600 probably around 2010 while googling Pac-Man gameplay videos. I then looked that up and stumbled upon 2600 game reviews from Classic Game Room (HD), and I guess the games peaked my interest. It wasn't until November 2012 when I got an Atari 2600 Jr. with some games to go along with it. It, along with the NES and the SNES was what got me into retro gaming.

I mean the CX40. The driving controllers work fine on it. I have tried other joysticks with both systems, and they work as normal.

Hi, I found a strange problem with my Atari CX-40 joystick. Where moving the stick up doesn't do anything on my Atari 2600 Jr. The odd part is that it works fine on both the right controller port and other systems I've tested it on, except the Atari 600xl, which experiences the same problem as the 2600 Jr.

I'm pretty sure I just saw an Ataribox ad on Youtube.

Got this TV today that has a screen measuring around 14". It has RF, composite, component, and even S-video.

Clearly Atari is grasping at straws at this point. One could even say they're grasping at crypto-straws.

Got 2,640 on Space Invaders for the Atari 2600.

SNES: This was first console I ever had. My earliest memory of it was me playing Super Mario World on a 9" Sanyo tube TV, and that was back when the Sega Dreamcast was still being supported. GBA SP: I know this one is a handheld, but I had a lot of fond memories of it. Whether it'd be playing multiplayer Mario Kart Super Circuit in the car, or just getting a new game for it. NES: This one was a hand-me-down console. I had the side-loader model, along with a bunch of different games, two controllers, and a grey Zapper. Gamecube: My brother and I got a Gamecube for Christmas, along with a two controllers, one black and the other silver, a copy of Mario Party 7, and a copy of Mario Kart Double Dash. I'd say this was the biggest system of my childhood.
