  1. Here's a fairly simple Cassette Tape player program I did in BASIC on my 600XL. I wouldn't say it's very practical, as typing in POKE 54018,52 in the BASIC prompt is much quicker, in fact, I programmed this as more of a programming exercise rather than something useful. I did sort of try to make it more than a simple POKE command by adding in a "visualizer", if you can call it that. I've included the .wav file in this post if you want to try it for yourself. Tape Player.wav
  2. Finally got around to hooking up speakers to my surround sound system. I don't think I've heard Ballblazer sound this great before.

      That's what she said.

  3. It's been getting cooler recently, now I can go outside without feeling like I'm gonna catch on fire.

It's nice. I can wash the dishes without sweating.

  4. Always wondered about that. Also I remember that moving a joystick in port 1 while in BASIC will type in different characters, as if you typed them in using the keyboard.
  5. 1. Stealth. A fun and adictive game. I actually played this game because of this thread. 2. Quarxon. A good multiplayer game, the odd gameplay mechanics are what keeps me coming back to it.
  6. Here's a list from Atarimania. http://www.atarimania.com/faq-atari-400-800-xl-xe-what-programs-run-only-on-the-400-and-800-models-and-why_68.html Keep in mind that the list might be incomplete, My cassette copy of Blue Max won't work on my 600XL without the Translator disk and it's not on the list.
  7. Hi, I've had two Wico Command Control joysticks that I bought from the Flea Market for a while now. One is a Ball-Top, the other is a bat. The problem is, the Ball-Top one feels way more stiff and a bit squeaky compared to the Bat. I've tried opening the Ball-Top up, but beyond the leaf switches, the internals of the joystick seem to be in-cased in a hard, plastic box with no screws to unscrew and open up. Is there any way to loosen up the joystick? Also, the switch on the Ball-Top acts strange. When set the "Button", only the stick button works, but when set to "Stick" both fire buttons work.
  8. Bought me an Atari 1050 disk drive, and an Atari Translator disk.
  9. Update: I decided to test everything out on Altirra and figured out how to get it to load on an XL. First, I load OS-A using the translator disk, trying OS-B will cause a "Remove Cartridge" error to pop up on the screen. Then, I hold down Option and Start, then press Select. Finally, I go through with the loading procedure, making sure I take out the Translator disk from the drive before pressing Return to avoid a "No dsk drive" error to pop up. Anyway thanks for the help.
  10. That might be so I just looked at my serial number and it was black, and I know mines is a Chelco model because I opened it up. But then again, that's just one of many.
  11. Just bought me an Atari 1050 and a Translator disk. Perhaps that will make it work.
  12. I just tried to load that .cas on Altirra and it can't load it either.
  13. If you're talking about the .cas SS posted, then there's no clear tone between the loader and the main. If you are talking about the cassette, then I tried that and nothing changed.
  14. It would get to the loader, then the sounds that the Atari makes while loading from cassette would sound off, indicating that it's having trouble loading, then the tape would stop.
  15. I can load real cassettes, and I tried to load a .cas to .wav conversion of Zaxxon and that worked fine.
  16. I just tested the .cas on Altirra, and it only loads on 400/800 mode, this might mean the tape version is incompatible with the Atari XL. Yet I can't find the game on this compatibility list. http://www.atarimania.com/faq-atari-400-800-xl-xe-what-programs-run-only-on-the-400-and-800-models-and-why_68.html Edit: I looked up the manual and it says this: "Loading Blue Max Atari (Cassette) Turn on computer whilst holding down the START key (START & OPTION on XL models) A beep will be heard. Press PLAY on the cassette unit and then press RETURN. Program will load and run automatically" For me, this implies that it should work on the XL models.
  17. I converted a .cas file to a .wav using A8cas
  18. Hi, I resoldered the read head on my 1010 and now it works. I tried to load the game Blue Max but every time I would try to load it, the 1010 would stop playing the tape, and no error or anything would pop up on the screen. I've tried both an actual tape copy and a .wav and everytime it would stop. is there a reason why this happens.
  19. I've used that command and tried using a normal music cassette and can't hear any music from the cassette coming from the speakers.
  20. Hi, today I circumvented the plastic finger for the play button by pressing the metal part myself. I then tried to load a game but noticed that I can't hear the cassette audio through the tv speakers and the computer can't seem to hear the audio either. It can't be my 600XL because I have a 410 and can hear the cassette audio when using that. And I made sure that my tv wasn't muted, so it could either be the 1010 or the SIO cable. I've never heard of a problem like this before, so any help would be nice.
  21. Hi, my Atari 1010 tape drive's been having problems with the play button, a plasic piece for the play button has snapped off and now the it would go limp and the 1010 won't be able to play cassette tapes. What's the best way to reattach the plastic piece?
  22. Got me a bunch of Atari 8-bit games, half are cassettes, the other half are cartridges, plus a mystery 8-bit game, and some Atari 2600 games for good measure.
