Softmod worked great for me to get arcade emulators working (installed via the Splinter Cell exploit), though I've not yet gone for a larger hard drive. I bought the USB-dongle adapter from ebay (along with a component video cable) and went through a pile of old 4 gig and smaller USB drives until I found one that worked with the exploit. If you can find a compatible flash drive, it's probably the fastest way to go about it and cheaper and easier than a mod chip (which I don't think would give you much in the way of additional value in your suggested scenario). I'd ask around to see if you can easily score some old flash drives, like promotional items given away at trade shows and the like, the kind of stuff people might have lying around. Trying to find a specific drive with which to perform the operation seems like it'd be a huge headache (i'm not sure if there's even a list of known working ones).

Possibly he's arguing that being a console is a gimmick in itself and PCs are some kind of platonic ideal that all gamers should accept as their lord and savior by that superior logic. It's an argument I've heard time and time again.

Congrats on the pickup. I too own a pink DS Lite, though in my case, I changed the case for a knockoff one from ebay (dark blue, left the buttons, screen frames and so on pink), which is an option if the color gets on your eyes after a while. It's not terribly difficult, you need a triwing screwdriver and steady hands, though. I'd also recommend Puzzle Quest, I've found it the perfect kind of simple timesink for bus rides for example.

Speaking of specific games, I think Shovel Knight will be remembered fondly as one of the great indie games of this generation.

In my particular case, i felt the extra weight of the motor was actively detrimental since it was attached directly onto the joystick lever. Not sure why they thought an arcade stick needed rumble at Hori headquarters, but I was glad to be rid of it.

I took rumble out of my old PS1 arcade stick, because it was incredibly distracting when playing Centipede. Just a simple matter of clipping the wires and physically removing the motor.

I was under the impression that game purchases from your account could not be transferred to one from another region, and having two accounts with their own game lists would be just the kind of minor irritation that would drive me to annoyance, plus it sounds like the kind of thing the terms of service would probably prohibit.

There isn't anything Nintendo could do to entice PS4 or Xbone users to switch systems. We already have every reason to suspect the specs won't be a noteworthy improvement on the WiiU and certainly nothing that could compare with the Neo or the Scorpio (assuming that those two can indeed play games at 4k). What can the NX offer that's worth the expenditure? If you have a PS4 this year, you could buy the VR with roughly the same amount of money that the NX will likely cost and chances are, that'd give you way more exclusive games. Xbone owners can either upgrade to a Slim or start saving up for a Scorpio, or even start building a killer PC now that Microsoft is releasing Xbox games on Windows 10. Nintendo's only chance is a hail-mary pass on a truly mindblowing unique feature, but after the passing of the Wii U, the Wii, Kinect and the PS Move, I feel that the market's never been more hostile to gimmicks. What consumers and developers overwhelmingly want for the future is something like the PS Neo or the Scorpio, and Nintendo can't compete in that console race anymore.

I'd love for that latest batch of rumors be true, a device that's easy enough to develop for and powerful enough to compete with the PS4 for the same games would be a wonderful thing. And I think a controller with a touchscreen still has untapped potential the Wii U didn't fully take advantage of. The gloss black "screen" could just be a bit of engraving plastic, and the audio jack simply inserted in a hole drilled into the side of the thing. The images are clear, but they're not that high-rez, so I'd suggest that's the likeliest explanation.

Important if true. This thing looks hideous, and I really can't see how this could be the controller for a system that's supposed to be having major developers jumping back into the Nintendosphere. For that rumor to be true, the NX would need to have a controller design much closer to the industry standard. Touchscreen buttons and a weird controller-screen would make for a lot of extra developer work for questionable gain. And this can't really be the supposed "handheld" portion of the NX either, since the screen real estate left over for games after all the touchpad controls took their own space would be miniscule. So either a) This rumor is false or b) Most of the other NX rumors are false and this is what we're getting.

If they want third party games for NX. Nintendo needs a controller that can match the control layout the market has come to expect. Going their own way has resulted in two generations' worth of subpar ports struggling to take advantage of Nintedo-specific bells and whistles, to little avail. Not to mention the sheer ergonomics of that oval monstrosity are mindboggling. My hands painfully cramp just looking at it.

I rather think that's something that falls completely outside Mame's remit. It's supposed to be an emulator that outputs faithful video and audio. Their goal has always been to preserve the stuff as-is, sticking 21st century bells and whistles in would do nothing to further that end.

Hopefully it will, Ubisoft's big franchises have typically improved moving from forward (and then they get repetitive and stale after that), and hopefully wth the backstory and origins baggage out of the way, they can tell a more interesting and mechanically ambitious story with Aiden.

I second the recomendation for Wipeout HD, it has been a very enjoyable experience for me. And yeah, if you want it on disc, track down a European version, you might even save a few bucks since it comes bundled with the Fury expansion. For me, being introduced to the Assassin's Creed series has also been a lot of fun, not too challenging most of the time, but with enough cinematic flair and freeroaming fun as to be a fun expecience. And copies of the games are super common and likely very, very cheap. You average Gamestop will almost certainly have over a dozen, and seeing even more at flea markets and such is to be expected. I also derived a LOT of enjoyment from trying out Saints Row IV, and do want to get my own copy of those games as soon as possible.

Your personal hygiene habits aside, I suspect it's because the Pi has things like an IO header and USB ports for people to tinker around with. A phone might be technologically superior, but turning it into something that's not a phone is far harder. I can't say I understand the distaste for marketing, myself, it's the lifeblood of the great capitalist common task, after all. Without marketing, computer games would never have evolved past the Spacewar level of hobbyist creations. For all its faults, the PI has brought thousands of people into the electronics hobby or let them build things like robots or MAME cabinets. Is that really so bad that they're doing it with technologically inferior hardware?

I know what you mean, the platforming physics seem really weird to me, though I'm by no means adept at the genre. Shame, really, as I, like you, enjoy a lot of other aspects of the game.
