Sorry if this has been posted, but searching for "emulation box" returned 1000 hits. I looked through a couple of pages, but I didn't see this topic. I did see a related topic, but it was more about which is better to build and configure, not to use. I'm looking for opinions on the best all-in-one emulation box. It looks like the best choices today are either RetroPie or a modded Xbox. I actually recently bought a modded Xbox from someone local, and it's...a bit of a mess. Coinops 8 is pretty cool, but I don't much care for the way the entire Xbox is configured. There are several emulators, many of which overlap in their content. I also need to look into how to get ROMs onto it, as the GBA emulator he loaded has no GBA ROMs - only GBC ROMs. I found this, and it's very appealing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/163083927910?ul_noapp=true But it's also $300. I know it says it's out of stock, but he said he could build one for me, when I'm ready to purchase. It looks like the mother lode of emulation, and it includes several systems I can't experience today. A couple of drawbacks, though: I'm stuck using Xbox controllers, which means either a new 3rd party piece of junk or a used 1st party controller. No USB, no classic controllers. Also, there is no HDMI for the Xbox. I have a component cable, and I'm concerned about lag when my TV converts from analog to digital. On the other hand, a Raspberry Pi setup is cheaper and has USB ports, which opens up the opportunity to use many more types of controllers. The dude I bought my modded Xbox from said he thought that RetroPi is junk, but he didn't go into details. I know that my Ultimate Intellivision Flashback from ByteKnight, which I love, runs RetroPi. I've had no problems with it, other than the PITA that is FTPing ROMs to it. I have an Nvidia Shield Portable today, and I hook that up to the TV via HDMI and use the Nvidia wireless controller with it. It actually works great. Drawbacks are that there are only so many emulators available for Android, there is limited space on the device (not all emulators can read from the micro SD card), and as it gets older, the non-replaceable battery doesn't hold a charge like it used to. So, for those of you using some kind of emulation box, what are you using, and what do you recommend? I like what that "monster" Xbox has to offer in its varied emulators, but I don't care for the limitations of component video or an Xbox controller.

Of I could take the old one and annoy Flojomojo by dumping a bunch of ROMS on it and take 10 minutes to scroll over to Super Mario Bros. 3!

I just ordered one from Best Buy online, and it should be here by Tuesday. I have one from the initial batch, but I too am hoping the audio lag or CRT filter are approved. If not, I'll either return it or piss Tanooki off by selling it at a profit, if that's even an option.

As I recall from another thread, you have one of these, right? Do you have the controller, too? Recommended?

This isn't a product I thought I was interested in. It doesn't support the Harmony cart, and I already have other ways to emulate an SD card full of ROMS. The communication and apparent support from Hyperkin might just be enough to make me change my mind, though.

I wanted one, but reviews of the d-pad have completely turned me off. -
Retro-Bit Super Retrocade with Capcom, Data East games

Fry's had these for $10 off last week, so I picked one up. This one is definitely going back because pressing right on the first controller that I opened only registers if I push down extra hard. As to if I get a replacement or refund...I'm not sure yet. It's fine for what it is at $50, and I went in with fairly low expectations, but it's probably not something I should have picked up in the first place. I have an Nvidia Shield Portable that I can connect to the TV, and I can use a quality wireless controller with that for a much better experience. Still...I buy lots of plastic junk that I shouldn't buy, so maybe I'll get a replacement. -
Very close to just ordering one. The only thing holding me back is that I'm worried that the 720p output will cause lag when upscaled to 4K.

I've got my cart loaded up with many of the Sierra titles I don't already have, at 40% off. I don't think I've ever seen them discounted more than that. Rise of the Dragon and Heart of China are only 20% off, so I'm holding off on those.

I'm playing Retro City Rampage. I think I'm about close to the end. Looking forward to WarioWare Gold. -
I actually completely forgot about the AVS. Maybe I need to put that back on my radar, since it's both available and not insanely expensive, unlike the NT mini.

I check every time I'm at Walmart, and I've never seen them. -
Just the other day, I was seriously considering pulling the trigger on the black one, disappointed that the others weren't available and that there was no indication of future availability. Perfect timing to get an email from Analogue announcing preorder opening of the US and SFC models! I'm terrible at making decisions, and I went back and forth, but I finally settled on the SFC design and placed my preorder. Man, that's a lot of money for shipping, though.

Grown men, and their entire self-identities are wrapped up in who has the high score in what 80s video game, and who cheated how many years ago. At some point you have to cut the mullet, dress like a normal human being, and find something actually worth living for. Nothing wrong with letting your freak flag fly, but these people are obsessed and fucking nuts. -

I seriously have no idea what that dude is saying. I'm trying to translate it to adult-speak in my head, but I'm not having much luck. -
I must have a weird wish list, as not one of the items on mine is on sale.

I'm playing Rhythm Heaven Megamix. I wish they'd done a physical release, but I bought it digitally recently when it was on sale for the holidays. Almost done with it, and I've enjoyed it.
