Ok.. after lunch with my daughter for Fathers Day, i had the rest of the day to go through some manuals. Ive wondered for years about the Sea Battle 1818-0620-G2 manual. Why would Mattel go to 0620? I have a theory (which many of you may already know the real reason). But i couldnt find any info regarding it.
When laying these manuals out in order, it looks to me that Mattel made a serial# error in the early Sea Battle games, printing them as 1818-0820/ U.S.A.(i confirmed this when i reviewed my early Sea Battle game). So, it is my belief that they had to use 1818-0620-G2 when printing the earliest versions of the UK manuals (8920 had already been changed to 0720 for the Canadian market, so they would not use 0720, but skip to 0620).
Later, the English U.S. version was fixed to 1818-0920 (0920 being the usual U.S. market id# for each game manual). Then, they could change the UK version manuals to 1818-0820 (0820 being the normal UK market id#).
Does this sound correct?
