  1. I bought a skunkboard from sell my retro (back in August 2018, I think). I am also paranoid about it stretching my jag's cart connector. The board does look thicker than standard jaguar cartridges. Perhaps I have 1.6mm and the standard jag's are 1.3mm. However, it did come already bevelled. I plugged it into my CD unit originally but quickly decided to take it out after reading about thick PCB's. I havn't had my CD unit plugged in since because of this. I understand that the cartridge connector pins on the jag can be coaxed back into position if really necessary. Luckily I have had no problems using standard jag cartridges after using the skunkboard (no more than I usually get). I was quite worried about this but feel a little more confident now. It has to be said that it is a bit of a nightmare. I wish that proper sized PCB's were used so there was no issue. I make sure that I don't leave the jag with skunkboard plugged in, just in case. Skunkboards are awesome! It is good to see your own code running on the Jaguar.
  2. Steel Talons on the Falcon uses the DSP chip for matrix calculations (for the 3D graphics).
  3. Just had a good go at Tempest 3000. Unfortunately discovered that my logitech controller has a bad right shoulder button. It feels soft when pushed and only clicks when released ?!? I think I might try taking it apart. Maybe need to replace the membrane with something. Anyone got a suggestions? After playing Tempest 3000, I am of the opinion that it is better than Tempest 2000 or 4000! More colourful, more fun. The music is slightly better. A really awesome game. TxK on the vita is good but overall 3000 is my current favourite.
  4. Have bought Alice's Mom and Yopaz for the Jaguar CD. I already own printed copies of Ellansar and Phillia. Really enjoyed Ellansar although I did rush it a bit so I could try out Phillia (I am stuck but will no doubt get a bit further eventually). If you like Myst as I do then I can recommend Ellansar and Phillia. Is there any possibility that Escape:2032 can be released for Jaguar CD or is it only possible for a cartridge release. Good to have affordable games for the Jaguar! Cartridge releases are too expensive for me.
  5. Looking forward to buying Alice's Mom and Yopaz for the jaguar.
  6. Getting the CD stuff working is great news. It is really quite exciting now release is so close.!
  7. I really want a Samsung N501/N504 for the extra VLM effects and for homebrew. The N501 pops up on ebay in America from time to time. Not seen any nuon stuff in England for a while. I have a Toshiba at the mo which works great with Tempest 3000. Hoping to source a copy of Iron Soldier 3 eventually. Will this work okay on the Toshiba? Was it not recalled for some reason?
  8. Looks like it works really well. Does the resolution of the rotary feel right? Imagine have a slider or a rotary controller to adjust the resolution of the rotary controller (i.e change the speed rate of turning). Wow, I am thinking about buying the kit for this again.
  9. I have had a few audio issues as well. I first noticed it on my AVP cartridge a while back. The sound disappeared after a game over. I think there may have been a graphics glitch flicker and then went back to normal but with no sound. Also I was playing power drive the other day and the same thing happened. Loss of audio after a race or a game over (trying to remember which it was) and a graphics glitch flicker and then back to normal but with no sound. Also the eeprom was a bit iffy and took a couple of tries to load but saved every time. My power drive and AVP cartridges are probably in the worst condition of all my carts and I assumed it was perhaps a dodgy read or something but after reading this thread I am worried that there may be something amiss with my console. When I lived with a friend years ago in the early nineties he had an Atari Falcon. The DSP chip was forever having problems. Too long on or getting too warm and it would crash or behave strangely. I think the Motorola DSP is a bit delicate and seems to not always quite do exactly what you are expecting. This maybe what the problem is with me. It is interesting that the cartridge is bit checked before running but not with a BJL bios. I bought my Jaguar from Amazon about four and a bit years ago and is in excellent condition. Only problem is red screen on boot sometimes (switch off, reseat and try again until success). I just assumed my problems were related to the flakey DSP again. Always seems to work when you switch off the Jaguar and reboot so I just put up with it as one of those things. Life isn't perfect and can't be predicted to work okay all the time. By the way. How do you check a Jaguar to see if the bios has been altered to BJL or other? While I am thinking about it. In the early nineties when the Jaguar was first released I have a great memory of going into the local Virgin megastore where I lived (same place as Atari UK headquarters). On the upstairs floor there were rows and rows and rows and rows (a lot) of resplendant Atari Jaguars on display. Good grief, what a sight. And they say the jaguar was not popular! There was a tube transport system in the ceiling with cash from the tills whizzing around. What a sound. Unfortunately, it took be nearly twenty years until I could actually get to experience the jaguar for real!
  10. I have tried out both of my pro controllers now. One for my jaguar, one for my programming projects using virtual jaguar on a windows 7 laptop with the raphnet adapter. They both work like a dream and have improved my gameplay. Very satisified. Last played 'power drive' and 'pinball fantasies'. They work great. Was going to go skiing and snowboarding with val d'isere but ran out of time and anyway we have no snow yet. <lol>. Can't see myself using an original non pro controller any time soon and would like to recommend these new ones to any jaguar owner. No modifications or alterations were needed. No rattling plastic. No bent pins. Worked straight out of the box. Thankyou Starwander for time and expense spent on creating these.
  11. You could try using using blank space around your 16x16 sprite to make it up to 64 pixels wide by 16 pixels high. I think you should be okay with using 16 pixels for the height!
  12. I wrote an Object Visualising Utility Module with GfA Basic for the Atari ST years ago (1991/1992). It had drop down menus, you could load and save or create 3D coordinate data and then display a 3D object and rotate the object in realtime. I only got as far as wireframe objects but could have gone further. It was perfectly usable and really very fast! Unfortunately I no longer have a copy of the source file but the good news is that I had a habit of making hardcopy printouts of the source so I could type it in again. I did try OCR but did not have too much success without LOTS of 'jiggery'. I am trying to get the time to code some 3D on the Jaguar but have a couple of projects I want to spend more time on first.
  13. I have a rotary controller already that I bought on ebay a few years ago (dpad replacement like the opal). It works perfectly with T2K but with Impulse X if I remember correctly I have to set the sensitivity to '8'. A setting of '4' makes the paddle move too slowly. Also in kobyashi maru the rotation of the ship is far too slow to be able to play. I think the rotary encoder in my controller must have a different resolution which would make movement in T2K on the opal twice the speed! I hope you will have the opal in stock for a while as I would like one of them but may not be able to purchase one until after christmas.
  14. I like Steel Talons! Back in I think it must have been '92 or '93 I met a computer programmer in Reading, Berkshire where Atari UK resided. He said to me, "I'm writing Steel Talons for the Falcon". I was quite awe struck. I have thought about a Jaguar port of this and have even tried mailing the person a while back to ask if there is any existing source code or assets available to use but I am unsure whether they received my mail. The program runs in 80 column mode on the Falcon (640 pixels horizontal resolution). I notice that the executable has been stripped of any symbol table. The falcon DSP is used for calculations for 3D graphics. To make a decent port of Steel Talons would take a considerable amount of time and effort but it would be interesting to see how the jaguar would perform such a task.
  15. Have tried out one of my two pro-controllers with Trevor McFur. It works perfectly! I had no problem with bent pins (lucky me) and I thought that I might have a similar problem to cj with the dpad having very little travel but after actually playing with it for real I found that the dpad is very responsive and different from original 3 button controllers. It is smoother and less wrestling is needed. The modelling of the case is very good and I really like the chunky lead. I can recommend these controllers for everyone. Why ever use a 3 button controller again! I havn't tried out the other controller yet, nor have I tried out all the buttons and the keypad so I have my fingers crossed that all is well. Also I need to learn a bit of confidence on how hard to press the buttons. Thank you and congratulations starwander. You should have enriched many Jaguar owners' experience and saved them a considerable amount of dollars too.
  16. Order #1155 received on friday. Initial inspection they seem okay. I got as far as plugging one in but had visitors so still have not got around to trying them.
  17. I was going to set up a c based development environment so I could try out 'the removers' jaguar library but 'Raptor' came along so I haven't got around to it yet. Also, I am not sure if anyone has 'the removers' library working on a 'Windows' based system but hey, a reason to boot linux pleases me.
  18. Is there any estimate on how much the JagSD is going to cost?
  19. I 'like' the original jaguar controller. I was pleasantly surprised when I first got my jaguar after years of wanting one. The controller was much better than I was expecting. The size suits me fine, they are comfortable and I find it vaguely amusing that I have to 'wrestle' with the d-pad a bit. I am looking forward to my pro controller order arriving!
  20. Clint Thompson has done a great job with the art. Sorry, I still have not played this yet but the idea seems quite fun and original. Please continue...
  21. My apologies to zerosquare. I have just had a look at his design for an adapter as mentioned in his post just up a bit. Has anybody actually made one of these? Would it be possible to have 3 independent fire buttons with this design?
  22. I am surprised there has not been more interest in an arcade/fighting joystick for the jaguar. Look how many different Atari 9 pin D type compatible joysticks were made back in the 80s and 90s. What with the recent interest in a mouse adapter. It would be great if someone could come up with a design that you could plug in a standard 9 pin joystick (or a mouse) and have a pass through so you could plug in a jagpad as well. I do understand that the wiring is different with a jagpad compared to an old style Atari joystick. Hasn't there been an arcade stick made for the Jaguar already? Anyone got any photos or information?
