  1. Just what I wanted, thankyou. I will give it a go.
  2. Just found this. I missed it the first time round. BTW, Raptor API totally rocks! Hopefully by the time I finish all the Raptor lessons I will have a working game all in lovely 68000 machine code. Yippee.
  3. Last week I spent a couple of days setting up an assembly language development environment for lynx. I started off tinkering with cc65 and going through the lx.net tutorials (not finished yet). I also have a working cc65 environment on an android tablet so can code on the go but am using a windows dev environment mostly. I found a couple of bll archives, one from 1999 and one from 2002 and there is sage's archives as well. I managed to compile the lyxass 0.50 assembler c code with the latest bloodshed dev-cpp without much bother. After installing all the additional files and setting path information I found some hello world code from an old atariage post. I created a hello world bitmap and assembled the hello world code. Hurrah. It all works perfectly. This is my first 6502 code, I think as I am more used to 68000 or originally z80.
  4. I live in the UK. I have found a company (arcadeworlduk.com) that sells a 'Spintrack USB Arcade Spinner Unit' for £52.20 including VAT. Would one of these be suitable for your board? They sell knobs and flyweights, too. Unfortunately they are currently out of stock. Are you in the USA? Would you ship one of your boards to the UK? I have bought from the US before with no problems. I don't have the tools to make a controller box but might be able to get help from a friend. Anyone got an idea for hacking something existing to use as a controller box? I have had a quick look on Amazon for a plastic diy project box but they look a bit small (200mm x 120mm x 75mm). Got any rough dimensions needed for a controller box?
  5. I'm interested in this but money is too tight at the moment. I AM warming up for a Tempest 3000 session, though. Might get it on for Christmas. Good luck with the project. It will be interesting to hear from people what they think of the new controller.
  6. I too have ordered a number of items from Telegames UK (such as a memory track cartridge and some Atari VCS paddles, Jaguar CD' games). They are friendly, helpful and quick to deliver. Email contact is good. I am in the UK, though so can't comment on import taxes.
  7. Ah yes, that would contribute to the errors. The first thing I thought of was that maybe the input was read (for a left turn): -x,0,-x,0, etc. And for right a right turn: +x,0,+x,0,etc. This being on a Jagpad. So that when it reads the rotary it goes (for a left): -x,0,+x,0,0,0,-x,0,+x,0,0,etc. Or something like that. In other words it is processing the release state as well. I am trying to visualise what effect that would have but it would cause an error. It would kind of depend on how the input code was constructed. Hopefully I will get a chance to look at the source for vj. It might makes things slightly clearer.
  8. What with the increase in rotary controller games and the new Jaguar USB tap on Kickstarter, it got me thinking about this topic again. I have carried out some tests on a Windows 7 laptop with the Raphnet adapter. When using the game controller properties from Windows control panel it can be seen that for each small turn of the rotary ( a 'step') the data produced is - right turn: +x,-x, 0, +x, -x, 0, +x, etc. and left turn: -x, +x, 0, -x, +x, 0, -x, etc. From what I remember reading about rotary controllers this is the correct behaviour and to be expected. Good news. :-) However, when trying the controller with virtual jaguar it DOES NOT work for playing. :-( I have not looked at the source code for virtual jaguar yet. Perhaps it could be modified for rotary input. I tried Arkanoid 2 (the old version with no sound) the bat would move to the right (not very smoothly) but not to the left. Left turn would just jitter left/right. Kobyashi Maru, the spaceship would just jitter and could not be controlled. It is a bit like the effect when you try and use a rotary controller as a standard dpad without reading and interpreting rotary data. I tried full circuit rocketeer and managed to get the jet pack to move a bit to the right but left would not budge just jittering. The great Tempest 2000 would just jitter, however I tried it with project tempest and had a bit more success. The claw would move left and right quite well but fire (the B button) would now not work ?!!?!. Curious. Has anyone tried using a rotary with the new Jaguar USB tap? There is PCB schematics and firmware/driver source code on GitHub. Perhaps the source code could be modified so that the rotary acted as a mouse device instead of a game controller device. If that was achieved then the rotary could be used together with the Atari Vault program (on steam and to be included on the new Atari VCS). There is already code in place to play Super Breakout, Pong, (Major Havoc and Tempest I am not sure about) and the 2600 paddle games with a mouse. Also perhaps the source could be changed so that we have a rotary acting as a game controller that would work with ANY left/right game. Imagine this with classic space invaders or Jeff Minter's new Tempest 4000.
  9. I have been using Verbatim CD-R from Amazon and DiscJuggler 6 as described by Reboot with a great amount of success. All my discs that failed have failed when 'writing' the disc. I have also found that DiscJuggler can be a bit picky about cd writers. I have two laptop writers that work (one on Windows 7, the other an old Compaq running Debian Linux and wine (remarkable) and two PCs with writers that don't. Are you sure that cd-r discs wear out the laser quicker? Please explain.
  10. Recently found out that there are lots of karaoke cd+g discs available that should be compatible with the Jaguar CD add on. I only have 'one' cd+g disc so far but it works perfectly. Might be good fun at a Jaguar party like silly venture. Now where do I plug in my microphone, hmmm...?
  11. I just remembered. The Jaguar CD player plays "CD+G" discs as well. If Saint is planning on enabling the use of audio files with the VLM, I wonder what the posibilities of using ".cdg" files are...
  12. Displays title screen and quickly goes to a blue screen. I have a PAL jaguar with the new Rev.3 skunkboard from Poland. Not sure if it is model M or model K. Will have to try it in virtual jaguar instead. What Dev environment are you using? Is it made with the Removers C library?
  13. I used to have a RCA (phono) AV cable from the same company. I bought a Scart (with CSYNC). The quality was way better. However I don't know if it works with an HDMI adapter. I would have thought it would be not much, if at all better. Let us know how it goes. BTW, I have it plugged in to a 22" Flat screen. Also not sure about 'interlaced' mode on the Jaguar side. Haven't tested that yet.
  14. I was mostly impressed with Ultionus. Pixel art is good quality and out of the 3, the game I felt I would like to play. There is a lot of full screen background graphics, but hey if Rayman could be done then why not! Good luck.
  15. Hello. Out of interest. Are there any roms that are bad for a skunk board. i.e. They trash the skunk board 'bios'. I read in the manual that the skunk board's own rom is in protected memory, but that the bios can be updated. Anything found yet that overwrites the bios? I am a new skunk owner and thought I would put this question out there.
  16. Apologies for the confusion, madman. Thank you for the straight answer, Zerosquare. I will try the phono to amp method.
  17. Sorry do you mean the headphone port from the ICD cat box (unfortunately I don't own one) or the headphone port from the television? I did consider that but the sound would be processed 'through' the televisions sound circuitry and I don't think it is particularly good on the portable telly I am using. I was wondering if the phono ports were safe to use, really. Thanks for the idea, though. At least the jaguar is safe that way. I do have a 'portable in' 3.5mm input jack on the amplifier that is designed for MP3 players/ iPods. The level is quite low, though. I have used an iPad through it but I need the amplifier up a bit. Thank you for the reply.
  18. Question: I have a jaguar AV to composite cable (3 RCA phono plugs - composite video and left/right audio). Is it safe to plug the audio left/right into my Denon stereo system? Just the yellow composite plug into the television. I ask because I am unsure if the load from the stereo is suitable enough and that the jaguar has enough 'drive'. I am exploring jaguar sound output at the moment, development technical specifications and development coding examples and would like to try the output through a decent amplifier. The amplifier has an auxiliary input (phono sockets left/right). Also would be better quality for CD player. I know there was a cat box made by ICD and that had audio out. Did it comprise of some pre-amp circuitry? I noticed that the jaguar s-video cable has phono left/right. Do you think the video would be better quality than composite. Anyway the television I am using has no s-video socket but I do have s-video on my 'other' television.
  19. Hmm, what about Steel Talons. Already an Atari Falcon version.
  20. Good idea, havn't made a live cd snapshot of Raptor Basic+ yet but have completed the development cycle starting from coding up to playing .abs binary program on real hardware to a television. Live situation, worked well.
  21. Has anyone tried a rotary controller with the raphnet usb adapter? My windows 8 PC will not run vj. I think it may be because of amd processor or graphics. However, vj does work on Debian linux on same PC ?!?! I have not tested raphnet adapter on linux yet but think it may work. Also, Jaguar rotary controller would be excellent for mame tempest/arkanoid/etc. The problem is there is no mouse mode a la stelladapter. Would it be possible to write a driver for mame to enable usage of the rotary controller? Any thoughts?
  22. Please add me to the Pre-order list. Many thanks.
  23. Out of the box to working. Install 'wine'. Install raptor basic with wine ('wine rb+install.exe'). I am using a 64 bit PC and the default virtual jaguar in raptor basic+ is 64bit, but I had to download the 32bit executable and use that in place. Next, copy 'cmd.exe' from windows XP 'c:\windows\system32\' to the %RBTOOLS% directory and rename it to 'rbcmd.exe'. Run 'wine rbcmd /c build doger'. Builds the .abs and runs virtual jaguar. No errors! I can also use the Linux virtual jaguar I have made to run the .abs Using a proper microsoft cmd.exe and not the wine version was the key to getting it working! Thanks for the support, ggn and thanks to omf for pointing me towards wine. PS. Have installed notepad++ with wine to use as an editor.
