    heavy sixer

as discussed in this thread, I have started a new emulation project, called Heavy Sixer. Heavy Sixer is to be a 2600 and 7800 emulator featuring: - fully Win32 native - run games in windowed mode, not fullscreen (at least not by default) - easily configurable controls - several options for screen size (1x, 2x, 3x, etc.) - have some way to signify whether a ROM is for 2600 or 7800 - frontend containing data about ROMS rather than filenames - NTSC & PAL support, w/ Black & White mode - POKEY sound support - CPU speed adjustability - Network play - save state - PNG screenshots - interchangable color palettes note that there are (some are very) long-term goals, but the true aim of this project is to create an up-to-date true Win32-native 7800 emulator that's as nice as any out there. Comments? Questions? Flames?[/url]
  4. ok here's the final plan: A standalone, Win32-specific emulator of the 2600 and 7800 that runs in a window instead of fullscreen, with some nifty ROM-chooser frontend and some cues from Handy. sound good?
  5. i was counting v7800 as the only emulator, because i was thinking in terms of standalone. I have MESS but never use it because its very bloated (in terms of interface, the GUI, and also the fact that i have no use for 90% of the stuff it emulates) UPDATE: everybody like the new avatar? just photoshopped it myself
  6. Well, i like MESS too, but i just would very much prefer having a standalone emulator for the 7800, because i have no interest in 90% of the other systems MESS emulates... so IMHO to download MESS just to use for 7800 purposes seems like a waste...
  7. Well, the encryption was a myth. The cartridges have a validation key in them but that is only so the system can determine whether the inserted cartridge is a VCS or 7800 cart. It interfaces with the BIOS so it has no effect on emulation at all. We are thinking of doing a 7800/2600 emulator now, btw... a minute or two before you replied we decided on it we now have a name for our little project, too: Heavy Sixer
  8. I was just thinking the same thing, looking at how much Atari800WinPlus supports already it's kinda pointless to start on another 5200 emulator. 7800 on the other hand... why is there only one emu for 7800? surely there is some negative quality of the 7800 that prevents emulator writers from attempting it?
  9. Well, i thought about that, but this is a personal project, i have no intentions of it turning into a huge MAME-like project, so I'm really not too worried about "reinventing the wheel" so to speak. now, if i could only come up with a name for the thing
  10. Nevermind. After hours of painful deliberation I've just decided to do both! A 5200 and 7800 emulator, all in the same app... so nevermind.
  11. If I were to start a new emulator project (which I am considering) would you rather it be a 5200 or 7800 emulator? Why? Thanks! I can't decide between these two systems...
