I think this is a serious problem. If this happens to be the case, Sony and Microsoft would be following the smartphone model which might work for companies like Apple or Samsung, but I think this would be terrible for consoles. First, people use video game consoles differently than phones. Second, most of the people who buy consoles want a closed system (I know I do.) Third, I have no idea how many people are that interested in shelling out $400 a 4K PS4 2.0, but I don't think there are that many. Finally and the most important thing I can say, think about all those users who bought a current generation console and were thinking that that box would work for the next seven years. They'd feel betrayed. Also, if this is true, who in their right mind would buy a PS4 right now?

What Are Some of the Best Indie Games?
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Hi! I've seen you've left some comments on some of my posts. So I wanted to share an article and I trigger some discussions some people might be interested in. I know this might be a problem for a lot of people from the forums, but I try to be as transparent about it as possible. Although I've shared articles and not YouTube videos here, I've seen some fantastic content from guys like Metal Jesus Rocks, so there's definitely some merit to sharing content. Maybe I'd have heard about him on a different platform later, who knows? But the fact of the matter is, I didn't. He shared an article, I clicked on it, I really liked it and now I watch his videos on a regular basis. Again, when I share something here, I try to do it with a purpose and not just so that people click mindlessly on my links and I become rich and famous (I can guarantee you that's not the case.) I'm more than open to suggestions. Thanks for the comment! -
What Are Some of the Best Indie Games?
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
You refer to the article from my site, right? If that's the case, I'll try to do that from now on for new articles. Thanks for the feedback, that's more than helpful! -
Over the course of the past generation of consoles (that includes Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and to a lesser extent the Nintendo Wii,) indie games became extremely popular thanks to digital distribution services like Steam and creative initiatives like the Summer of Arcade on XBLA. I think at this point, it's fair to say that Indie games are here to stay. Although I played games like Fez, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, Braid, Hotline Miami and Bastion, there are several indie games I totally missed. Below, I'll share articles with some of the games I have played in case anyone's interested, but I'm more than open to suggestions and recommendations. And no, I haven't had a chance to check out Stardew Valley yet... I'll try to change that soon though. Top 10: Best Indie Games (Part I) - Top 10: Best Indie Games (Part II)

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is one of my favorite real-time strategy games of all time. Ironically, I haven't played many RTS titles in a long time (I'm playing most of my games on consoles nowadays,) but that doesn't mean that I don't intend to go back to see what I missed. I wrote a list of ten of the best games that are similar to Age of Empires and despite some exceptions (like Anno and Banished,) these are all classic games. So what did I miss? And more importantly, what are some of your favorite real-time strategy games? Can you recommend me an RTS I can play on a console? Thanks in advance! Top 10: Games Like Age of Empires

It's still baffling to me that something like the Nintendo 2DS exists. Ahough to be fair, I've never help one, so I'm complain about a piece of hardware that I've never even tried.

Most accurate port of DOOM on a console?
Games Retrospect replied to KWKBOX's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have yet to play the XBLA versions of Doom and Doom 2. Those are some of my favorite games, but I only played them on the PC a long, long time ago. By the way, does anybody know if the Xbox 360 version of Doom 3: BFG Edition come with the first two games? -
NES Tecmo Super Bowl Documentary (NFL Films)
Games Retrospect replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
A while ago I decided to start reviewing as many video game movies as possible. That includes regular movies, TV specials, anime, documentaries and movies that revolve around games (such as Pixels or Tron.) Does anybody know where I can find a complete list? I've been using Wikipedia, but every now and then, I find something like this in the forums and realize that the lists from Wikipedia or IMDB couldn't be more incomplete. If you have any other resources, I'd love to know what they are. Oh and thanks for sharing! -
Will the Wii U's price drop anytime soon?
Games Retrospect replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I assume the price of the Wii U will drop eventually, but Nintendo isn't a company I usually associate with the words "price drop" at all. -
Best Console Launch Games
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You're probably right. At least, that was the case for me, so the fact that the NES was the first console that I owned when I was growing up probably has a lot to do with that. -
A while ago, I wrote an article about ten uses for a PSP other than gaming (I'll leave the link below in case anyone's interested.) I was interested in that idea of re-purposing a console when you don't have anything new to play on it. Of course, this is easier with newer consoles because they have apps and they are more similar to computers in some regards. I know most of the people here are collectors and fans of classic games, but even so, are you ever "done" with a console? If you are, what do you do with it? Do you find something else to do with it or you just leave it on a shelf hoping to go back to it one day? I'm really looking forward to your responses and ideas! 10 Things You Can Use Your Old PSP for (Except Gaming)

Best Console Launch Games
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Super Mario Bros. is among some of the first sidescrolling platformers ever made. Games like Jump Bug, Legend of Kage, Moon Patrol, Flicky and Dragon Buster preceded Nintendo's title, but SMB became the archetype for the genre. -
Best Parkour Video Games
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I usually include the link because the top ten article includes a short paragraph dedicated to each game, so I can provide some background about each game and explain why they were included. Just out of curiosity, would you prefer that I include the list instead? -
In a way, the parkour discipline took the entertainment world by storm. Although free-running is relatively new, the discipline has appeared on TV series, action movies, funny videos from the internet and of course, video games. When done right, parkour is one of the most visually-attractive training disciplines and is particularly effective in video games. So what are some of the best parkour games out there? I'll leave some of my favorites below in the form of a link, but there are so many games with parkour elements that I'm sure I missed a couple. Top 10: Best Parkour Video Games

To me, whenever I bought a new console, it represented new experiences and the possibility of seeing technical achievements that were simply impossible before. It's rare, but what a beautiful thing it is when you see that represented in launch games. So what are some of the best launch games in your opinion? I'll include a list with ten of my favorites as well, so feel free to check it out. Top 10: Best Launch Games of All Time

When I was much, much younger, I remember reading about weird Japanese games that never made it to America. Although importing games is cheaper and easier than ever now, there's still the problem of language barrier. Of course, some of the most popular games have been translated by fans via patches, but I was wondering which is the game that you would have loved to play in English but couldn't because the developer or publish it decided not to release it where you live.I'll leave a link of some Japan-Only games that I would have loved to play in English below (take into account that since I posted this article, some games actually made it here) Top 10: Japan-Exclusive Games that Should Be Available in English

I was recently watching a video that suggested that most people get so accustomed to certain genres that they run the risk of never listening to their favorite song, watching their favorite movie or playing their favorite video game. I think it's really important to go out of your way to try something different every once in a while, so I'm sharing a list with my favorite video games, but more importantly, I encourage you to tell me which is your favorite game and share a story related to that game. Hopefully, this will inspire me (and other people who read this forum) to try something that I wouldn't have played otherwise. Day of the Tentacle is one of my favorite games because I played that game for the first time while I was still in college. I remember getting up really early in the morning to play that point-and-click adventure game and I have some fond memories about it because 1) although i was playing an old game, it was all new and fresh to me which is rarely the case with most games 2) those Lucas Arts were hilarious, so in a way, whenever you made progress, you were rewarded with jokes and 3) Day of the Tentacle was one of the first games that inspired me to start my own blog. I wanted to share my experience with the game so bad, that I had to write a review and share it with others. I leave the link below, but I can't wait to hear about your favorite games! I've written about this before, but at one point, my entire life revolved around Diablo II. To me, that's one of the best action role-playing games ever made and I have some great memories about playing that game for hours and hours. But while several developers have tried to replicate Diablo's formula, few have succeed. So lets say that a friend is looking for games similar to Diablo or Diablo 2, what would you recommend? We're basically looking for fast-paced, action-RPGs that you can play for a few minutes or a few hours. Also, you get extra points if the game has both single and multiplayer options and if you're recommending PC games, low system requirements are important as well. Here are some of my personal favorites, but I'm pretty sure I missed a couple. Top 10: Best Games Similar to Diablo

Best Fighting Game Box Art
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That looks absolutely fantastic! -
I'm a huge fan of fighting games, but now that I purchase most of my video games digitally, I don't pay that much attention to covers. And that's a shame because the fighting game genre has given us some memorable box art. I share with you some of my personal favorites below, but I'd love to know what everyone else think about them and which are the ones that you remember the most. Thanks in advance! Oh, and if you don't love that cover for Samurai Shodown, you're not my friend. Top 10: Fighting Game Box Art

Cyberclon, I don't have Persona 4, but I do have Persona 3 Portable on the PSP. I've always wanted to play the Star Ocean games, but I never got around to it, though I have played Dragon Quest VIII and loved it. About the Xenosaga games, I have both the first and second chapters on my shelf, but I could never find Xenosaga 3 (I've never even seen that game on a GameStop back in the day.) Since you played all of them, do you think it's worth playing the first two games and watch the videos online? Or read the plot on Wikia or something? I know it's not the same, but I gave up on getting a copy a long time ago.

I like that idea of taking something already established and getting rid of it to make something completely new and fresh. After all, some of the best video game spin-offs do that and it definitely works in their favor. Below, I'll include a list with some of my favorite spin-offs which include Pokemon Snap, The Typing of the Dead, Final Fantasy Tactics and of course, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. I'd to know what did I miss and which are some of your favorites. There's not a lot I can say about rules, so as long as the games you mention are projects that are born as an extension of the main series it definitely counts. Top 10: Best Video Game Spin-Offs

What a terrific list! I had to look up all of these because I didn't know anything about the games, but it was worth it. This shows how large the PS2 library truly was and how many hidden gems (or whatever you want to call it) the console had. Again, great list.
