Games Retrospect

So my dad got two old Dell computers and he's giving me one for free. I've been looking for a PC to replace my terrible Acer Aspire V5 laptop for quite some time, and price has been one of the reasons why I pretty much gave up on getting a new computer. I know this isn't going to be the best computer ever, but since I plan to use it for video (YouTube, Plex and Media Player Classic) and browsing primarily, I think this is a great option. I'm willing to spend a few bucks on RAM, an SSD, a better processor and a graphics card, so I was wondering if anyone knows what's the best way to upgrade this computer in particular (what's supported, what's overkill or a waste of money and so on.) I already have a 240GB SSD with Windows 10 so I guess those are two things where I can save a few bucks. I'm pretty much new to upgrading computers, but this is something I've always wanted to do. Regarding all the other parts, I did some research to see how much money I need and this is what I found. RAM: it supports up to 8GB max. Processor: it supports Core 2 Quad 2 Q6600, again, not terribly expensive. Graphics Card: there are several options and I have no idea which offers the best bang for your buck. I think this PC supports the GeForce 210 1GB and although it's probably the most expensive part of the whole set up, maybe it'll be worth getting a good card. I remember reading that some people installed a 2GB graphics card in there, so maybe that's a better upgrade? Again, I have no idea about this component in particular. Some other random questions I have: should I get a wireless card in case I ever decide to move the computer far from my router? Should I go with a 23-inch monitor or 32- inch TV? Just curious since the price for those where I live is pretty much the same. I know monitors have better refresh rates, but maybe a big TV would be better for watching sports, video game tournaments, movies, series and even actual TV. One of my favorite parts about playing Pokemon HeartGold on the Nintendo DS was the game's post content. More specifically, I'm referring to the number of legendaries you could catch. Over the past few years, I sort of lost track of Pokemon games and since I played HeartGold to death, I didn't feel the need to play another one of those. That said, I really want to get back into the series, so I recently got Ultra Sun and I just started playing Alpha Sapphire. My question is simple, but I can't really find a straight answer: which Pokemon game has the most number of legendaries. I know some of the latest Pokemon games have a ton of legendaries, but you can only get one of two per version and you need both of those to get a third or something awfully specific like that. What I was wondering is, which game has the most legendaries if you only play one version and you do no trading at all. If my memory serves me right, HeartGold had Mewtwo, the three dogs, the three birds, Lugia and Ho-Oh and more, I want more of that and I was wondering if I'm going to be disappointed with Alpha Sapphire and Ultra Sun. I tend to be in places where's there's limited connectivity and there are a few apps I use when I don't have access to the internet. I'll leave a short list with the ones I use, but I'd like to hear what other people in a similar situation uses as well. And before anyone complains, all the apps I included are video game related in one way or another. PocketCasts/Overcast: podcast apps that download new episodes automatically and deletes them as soon as I listen to them Instapaper: lets you save articles so that you can read them whenever you want, extremely useful to download walkthroughs or long Polygon articles you can read on the go Pokemon TV: I just discovered this one and I honestly don't know if I'm going to be using for a long time or not. Essentially, this app lets you watch pretty much any episode from the Pokemon series. You can download a few episodes to watch on the go on low quality. Also, I used to have an app to download YouTube videos, but it was extremely cumbersome to use and it lacked certain features I use a lot. I hope YouTube eventually adds this to its official app So any ideas or suggestions?

I deleted the save data, restarted the game and I was giving the choice to choose language again. I knew there had to be a way to select languages since the cart was all in English. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Hi everyone, I just got a used copy of Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS and when I launch the game it's in Spanish. Thing is, everything in the game is in English (box, cart, manuals, AR cards and so on.) In fact, the cartridge is for US 3DS consoles and mine's from over there. I assume I need to delete the save that's in there and maybe I get the option to select a language from withing the game? Or maybe the game's in Spanish and I'm stuck with it until I'm done with it? I have no idea, so if anyone knows the answer to this question, I'd really appreciate it since it would save me a ton of time. Thanks!

I'm aware that those exist. But over here, getting an Elgato costs twice the amount of money I got my Xbox One for. I'd love to have one of those, but it's simply not an option for me.

I've been meaning to record some gameplay clips on my Xbox One for quite some time now, but every time I feel like I've made some progress in terms of new equipment or knowledge about the whole process, I encounter a new problem. I already have a USB 3.0 hard drive to store the long clips and I have a camera, but I can't get to record audio from the camera's mic. From what I've read online, you can't use a camera and get audio from that, but some people pointed out that that's how they record gameplay. Apparently, if you want to get audio on a clip or stream, you need to buy a super expensive headset (they are well beyond my budget in my country.) So I have no idea if that depends on the camera or not. As I was writing this, I realized that there's a menu on the settings that allows you to check video and audio from the camera and maybe you can enable an option from there, but I don't have my console with me right now, so I'll check it out at home. I was wondering if anyone over here tried to capture footage from their Xbox One console and experienced the same problem and can help me out. I know apart from using the OS from the console, there are a bunch of alternative apps like Upload Studio, Twitch and Mixer that have different functionalities, so maybe I should check out those just in case. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!

Wow, thanks for the recommendations. I had no idea most of those existed becuase I don't really know anything about console headphones. The top tier ones are insane in the sense that they are more expensive than the console itself, haha. I'm pretty sure they're worth the money though. 7.1 surround sound sounds awesome for competitive games, especially FPS.

Yes, the idea would be to talk over videos and since I've never used a headset on an Xbox, I don't know how it works. I assume you need an adapter or a headset that comes with the adapter, but they're really expensive. I've been looking at some Logitech and they look good, but they are really expensive and it's hard to justify that kind of money. Also, that's money I don't spend on games, haha. I've been looking for a good Xbox One headset, but I have no idea what to look for. Primarily, I'd like to use the microphone to record some gameplay footage and upload it to YouTube. I know the best option to do this probably involves getting a capture card hooked up to the PC and then get a better microphone, but since the Xbox One can capture gameplay right out of the box, I think this is the better/cheaper option for now. So what brands should I research? How much money should I spend on a good headset? Are 360 headsets compatible with the Xbox One? And finally, what about the headset that came with the Xbox One originally? Is that any good at all? Thanks in advance!

I do have a CRT. Nothing fancy of anything, I have a 21-inch Toshiba that's flat screened. A guy at the local TV repair shop gave it to me for free because nobody picked it up in years and he didn't have enough space to keep it. I just tested the console yet again yesterday and I played The Legend of Zelda: Four Sword Adventures for like 2 minutes. To me, it looked fantastic. My Wii on the other hand, is on my 32-inch LED connected through component. Probably not the best move, but that's my main TV and I play longer games there. As soon as I get a space of my own for all my video games and stuff, I'll probably set up my HD consoles on the LED and my SD consoles on the CRT. It's going to be sort of a headache, but I love moving stuff around when it means you're going to improve your gaming experience.

Sorry for the long reply, but you spent so much time addressing each of my questions that i think it'd be nice to offer some sort of response. 1) Regarding the HD adapter, it's not that I'm against it anything. But Amazon doesn't ship here officially so I need to buy it somewhere else (like eBay) and then pay exorbitant fees so that it even makes it inside the country. Another possibility is contacting someone who travels from the US to my country and pay that person for the accessory. Not exactly an easy process. I think for now, I'm not going to get it, but your explanation sounds awesome, I'll definitely visit some sites and watch some videos to see a proper comparison. 2) Opening and re-assembling a GameCube seems like a puzzle in and of itself, but I think cleaning used systems is a must. I'm glad with the controller I just refurbished, it looks brand new and cleaning it really made a difference. Now I won't feel bad when I take those to a friends house to play Smash Bros or something. 3) Correct me if I'm worng, but I heard there's an improved version of Tales of Symphonia on the PS2. Which one should I get? I watched a Metal Jesus video and he recommended it and his footage looked really good. I recently found out that pretty much every RE game was available on the Cube. I'd love to go back to the original trilogy at some point, but I have no idea if those games were well received or not. In the case of both the original remake and Zero, I know people love those games. Instead of getting the HD remasters, I might as well check these out. I miss classic RE. I forgot to mention that I really like fighting games, so Capcom vs. SNK 2 is a game I'll definitely check into. I know Soulcalibur 2 has Link, but I don't know if it's worth getting that game for that alone. A friend had the PS2 version with Heihachi on it and we played that game to death. We loved it! 4) I'll look into those imports. It's not a priority, but I rather get some weird Japanese game that's awesome, that a run-of-the-mill Western-released title.

Here are some quick answers/comments about what you mention above. 1) I'd love to use the component cables, but for what I paid for the console, I'm not going to spend that much money on what's essentially an accessory. I'll probably play my GamCube through composite on my flat screen Toshiba and hopefully that'll be okay or I'm going to play on my 32-inch LCD on the Wii that has component. Either way is fine by me as long as I get to play those amazing games. 2) I did some research and checked out most of the GameCube links on that site. They were extremely helpful. I also watched a bunch of videos, including some videos that encouraged me to clean my controllers and I don't regret that at all. I wish I could open the console as well and clean it, but the screwdriver I need hasn't arrived yet. 3) My favorite genres include JRPGs and Japanese games in general. I like Capcom and Square Enix games, for example. I'm also making a conscious effort to play more Nintendo. I ignored that company for way too long (Nintendo doesn't have a presence where I live.) I have a wishlist for the GameCube that includes Mario Kart Double Dash, Eternal Darkness, F-Zero, Luigi's Mansion and the Star Wars games, but to be honest I'm not dying to play any of those games because I already have way too many games I haven't even check out yet. Also, Smash Melee should be arriving next week, so we'll see about that. 4) I'm not that interested in that yet, but it sounds cool. I'd love to get a GameBoy player at some point, though I've heard it can be expensive if you want the software as well.

I knew about the component cables. I also heard they are prohibitively expensive because they sold them only through the official Nintendo online store or something and they are incredibly rare. As far as I know no one has been able to replicate the chip that's inside them so the only solution is getting those cables.

I'm actually considering playing GC games on my Wii as well. I also use component and that console's already hooked up anyway. I plan to use my GameCube on special occasions on the CRT in my living room and to take to family reunions to play Super Smash or something multiplayer. I watched some videos about Rogue Leader, it looks great!

Yes, I'll see what I find when it comes to memory cards. They are quite hard to get here. I've never seen the actual Wavebird controller around, but I've seen Chinese wireless controllers that try to do the same thing. I assume they suck. I have both connections in the back and I had no idea that cable existed, but man, they are expensive. I mean, I bought the whole lot for around $50. I'll do some research though just to look at some videos and see it in action. Thanks a lot!

I just purchased a GameCube through Facebook Marketplace and I'm really happy with the lot that I got. But I've never owned the console (it was never really popular where I live,) so I don't know much about it. I just watched some videos, but I'd like to know about some of the best games, hidden gems, accessories to take into account and so on. To be completely honest, I'm not even thinking about getting anything else because I spent more than I should have on the lot, but I'd like to know more about the GameCube because it looks like a fantastic system. Just for the purposes of sharing, I got the indigo system, the AV cable, the power brick with the cable, two memory cards that appear to be Chinese knockoffs and ten games. I did what you told me and I get a red ring with a weird error code (it isn't the infamous red ring of death, the console just freezes.) I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong. I extracted the core file and put it in the flash drive, connected it to the 360, restarted it and the error code happens. Do you know if I'm doing anything wrong?

I have updated it to the latest version. I mean, I'm always connected to the internet and the 360 kind of forces you to do so whenever there's a new update anyway. It's weird that it doesn't work at all.

I just found out that you can play original Xbox games on the 360 and since I have a copy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in my collection I wanted to play that really bad. Apparently, that game's supported on a list I found online (I think Wikipedia has a pretty comprehensive list of compatible games.) But as soon as I try to launch the game on my 360, I get an error message saying that it's not supported. The only thing I can come up with is that as a requirement to play original Xbox games on the 360, you need an official HDD. I think I read that somewhere and I hope someone here can double check that. The 360 I have has an unofficial HDD installed with a bunch of game, so maybe the hard drive is full? Since I've never played an original Xbox game on the 360 I don't know how that works. I don't know if the game just launched or if I need to install something, so if anyone here can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

I live in Argentina and to be clear, I do have access to eBay and I can purchase things off of that site. Thing is, every time I buy something from another country I have to fill out some papers stating how much money I spent, I need to pay a fee for the local mail to send what I bought to my house and usually the website that I need to visit to do that almost never works. So it's too much of a hassle for me. I opened the controller and cleaned to contacts, but it didn't work. As soon as I started playing a game it seems like a button is being held on a specific direction, so I don't know what the problem is. Now I'm using one of those cheap knockoff controllers that just sucks...

I went to my parent's house today and brought a bag full of broken controllers (my GF was thrilled!) I'm going to take them apart one by one and see if I can salvage any of them. The PS2's the one I want to use the most. I was going to start playing FFVII the other day, but couldn't because the receiver on my Logitech Wireless Action Controller is dead. I'll post any updates here.
