Around ten years ago, I got a Nintendo 64 for pretty much nothing. It came with a bunch of games and that afternoon, me and my cousin had a lot of fun playing Quake 2 and Super Mario 64. But as soon as I took it home and spent more time with it, I noticed that the joystick were pretty much broken and you really need to push them for them to work. I'm aware now that that's a common problem with those controllers (that a lot of people hate and a lot of people swear by,) but is there any way to fix them? I remember opening them up with my dad, cleaning every part, trying to figure out what was wrong with them and so on. That took hours and they're still pretty much unusable. I know there are replacement parts on eBay, but I also know that they are pretty poor quality and suck. Should I get one of those anyway? Should I clean them again? Should I get "new" ones? Anyone who has some experience with them and is willing to help let me know what you think. Thanks!

A few years ago, I got a Nintendo 64 with a bunch of games and the transfer pak. The accessory was part of the Pokemon Stadium bundle and I recently discovered that you could use the transfer pak to transfer your monsters to the N64 game, but also to play Pokemon Yellow, Red and Blue. I was wondering if that's a good way to experience those games on the big screen, since tracking down copies of Pokemon Stadium and any of the Game Boy games is going to be an expensive proposition for me. I know the N64 resolution is quite low and I don't know how its controller handles a traditional Pokemon, so does any of you have any experience with this? Is it worth adding those games to my collection so that I can play Pokemon on a big CRT? Or do you think that's just a waste of money? Any resources that you can throw my way will be greatly appreciated since the only thing I've found was a video on "My Life as Gaming". Thanks in advance!

I got a red Wii this year! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one excited about console color variations. I was super excited when I got it because the price was more than fair and I live in a small city where there are simply not that many Wiis around if you can believe that. The best part is that the family that sold it to me only played one game on it (New Super Mario Bros. Wii which comes bundled in with the console,) so it was as good as new. It came with the games, the manuals and even in the box, all in pristine condition. I had a black Wii before the red one and I always felt bad because it was somewhat scratched and the lid where you can hook up GameCube controllers was broken. So I bought the red one and got rid of the black one. One of the best purchases of the year for sure and apart from looking cool, I read that the red Wii is becoming harder and harder to find.

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what others might be adding to their collection. Personally, I'm catching up on some Xbox 360 games, so my list is extremely random. I'm thinking about getting Crysis 2, Saints Row The Third and at least one of the latest Pro Evolution Soccer games. Oh, and I just bought a sealed copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition which I just realized comes with expired codes in it, so I just paid more money that I should have for vanilla Destiny... We'll see if Xbox customer support helps me at all with that problem. Anecdotally, I'll probably end up taking my 360 to family reunions during the holidays so I'm paying more attention to that system and I'm really into Xbox One's backwards compatibility so any games I missed, I'm getting. Also, I just got some shelves for my collection which I'm extremely excited about. What are you guys getting? Anyone who would like to share is more than welcome! And thanks for helping me by answering random questions during 2018. Eric

I recently took the plunge and bought a few of Xbox 360 games from the PAL region. Basically, where I live some games are getting more difficult to find and these were quite cheap. I then had to figure out which games could run on my NTSC 360 and which ones I had to play on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility. In case I want to get rid of those games at some point so that I can get their NTSC counterparts if they turn up, what's the deal with PAL games from the 360/PS3 generation worth in general? Are they cheaper, more expensive or pretty much the same as NTSC games? I have no idea and I can't find any resource that shows both prices for the sake of comparison. Oh, I forgot to mention that I got GTA V, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas and the guy had a couple of other games I'm interested in as well. Thanks!

That was what I was thinking as well. Maybe if it's something extremely cool that you use once or twice and you then put on a shelf to display it, I'd be more inclined to get it. Maybe I'll get it eventually, but I think I'll focus on buying games to play for now.

Yeah, I'm still thinking about it. I haven't bought it yet and I don't think I'll get it this month either. Honestly, I love the idea of getting something somewhat rare for my collection and in mint condition, but the thing is, I can't justify the purchase because I don't think I'll use it at all. I'm really torn...

So would you recommend it for slow-paced games like RPGs and strategy games? I assume that controller would be a nightmare for action or racing games? What I mean is, I love getting something rare for my collection, but I also want something I can actually use to play games with it. Maybe it'll end up on a shelf unopened... but I love how sturdy Logitech accessories for the PS2 were. Thanks a lot and if anyone else has anything to add before I get it please let me know!

I actually live in Argentina and I have no idea if the site supports international shipping. I'll probably buy one and ask around to see if they allow that. What would I use the controller for though? Do you know if it supports every single PS2 game?

I was doing some research about Logitech controllers on the PS2 because I read that that brand released some of the best controllers on the console. That's how I found about about the Logitech NetPlay Keyboard and I want someone, anyone to tell me something about that thing. According to reference sites like PriceCharting.com those controllers should be collectible and somewhat expense, but someone's selling them for $10 with shipping and I have to know if it's worth acquiring one or not. Some general questions include: are they compatible with every game on the system or just online games? If that's the case, do you recommend using it for any games in particular or is it good just for the purposes of collecting? I think I can't really go wrong for that price. Apparently they come complete in box and most reviews from that seller are fine. It seems he has a stack of them and just wants to get rid of them, but since I can't find that much information about the controller anywhere, I turn to you. It seems most of the people who got one of those back in the day used it for Final Fantasy XI, but I don't know, maybe it works well with strategy games or slow-paced RPGs. Again, I'm just seriously considering it for the low price... Here's a picture:

I recently came across a Logitech Precision Controller for the PlayStation 2 (also compatible with the original PlayStation) and I flipped out. I had a Logitech PS2 Cordless Action Controller that I loved back in the day, but the X button eventually wore out thanks to stupid mini-games and QTEs. This person is selling it for around $20 and swears that her kids used it a couple of times, their PS2 broke and they moved on to a newer console, but I've never been a fan of getting used controllers. But Logitech PS2 controllers have always had a fantastic reputation and I'm wondering if it's worth making an exception. So had anyone had an experience with that model in particular? Is the controller worth that price? I know it's a gamble, but I never come across those and need some advice. I have a feeling I might regret in the future, but I can't tell right now. Oh, and there's a picture of the controller below just for reference.

I recently got to that point where I was interested in getting game only to realize I already had it in my collection. So I'm in desperate need to get an app, computer software or something to catalog the games I have and get useful information like the price I paid for it, the platforms it's available on and so forth. So what can you recommend or what do you use personally? I've heard about an awesome app everyone keeps mentioning, but it's Mac exclusive. Some collectors swear by Excel spreadsheets, but I forgot how to use it. Maybe it's worth learning how to make spreadsheets again and add all the information manually? Some other people like an Android app called GAMEYE, but I have no idea if it's worth adding my collection there or not. I'm looking for something reliable and light that I can have with me at all times (on my phone, tablet or whatever.) So what comes to mind?

What Are the Best Two-Player Wii Games?
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
I already have Wii Sports, but I don't own Resort as part of my collection yet. -
The holidays are fast approaching and I know I'm going to hang out with family members that enjoy gaming as much as I do. One of my favorite consoles to take to those gatherings is my Nintendo WIi since it doesn't take that much space and it isn't really heavy in case I have to walk. I'm trying to track down some games that are fun to play with other people and most of the lists mention the same titles, thing is I really want to hear other people's opinions instead of reading a list from IGN or GamesRadar. So far, I have New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and I'm really interested in getting Mario Kart Wii. Other than that, which do you think are the best Wii games to play with other people? I'd really appreciate it if anyone can recommend more obscure games that most lists regret to mention. Thanks for your help!

OG Xbox One vs Dedicated Blu-Ray Player
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
I'm using Kodi for most of my movie watching and even that isn't ideal. The latest beta is completely broken, it isn't updating the data from all my media and apparently, there isn't a new update available. Some of my ripped files don't look that good, so I want to start using the real thing and having the plus of being able to watch Blu-Rays too. Like a lot of people on these forums, I'm really attached to physical media, but the thing about movie watching is that there are a lot of options and at this point, I have no idea what's more convenient. I have a bunch of DVDs that I love and some of them look terrific on my HDTV and some of them look horrible, so I don't know how that works. Then you have streaming, but I don't like paying for yet another monthly service even if I watch a lot of films and you have a slew to choose from: HBO GO, the Disney one, Netflix, Hulu and the list goes on and on. Then there's Blu-ray which looks amazing, but I have to import most of them or pay a lot for shipping in my country and starting a collection seems daunting since I'd have to replace all of my DVDs. Finally, 4K Blu-ray! I don't have a 4K TV, but I know this is slowly becoming the new standard and this has to look absolutely stunning. Then again, maybe in a few years the movie industry moves towards 8K and whatever and then I'm going to feel like an idiot for moving to a format that's dead from the beginning. I should have bought all those UMD movies when I had the chance... haha. How do you guys feel about the sheer variety of formats when it comes to this? -
Over the years, I've amassed a collection of DVDs that, although nothing special, it means a lot to me. Lately, I've been thinking about getting some Blu-rays of movies I like, but I don't know that much about the format and the best way to play them. Some people say dedicated players are worth the investment because they are fast, you can use SD cards or flash drives to play pretty much any file, they come with a remote and they also support apps like Netflix or YouTube.Perosnally, my experience hasn't been the best because the Xbox One doesn't play discs right off the bat (you need to download the Blu-ray player app which isn't the best) and using the controller isn't the best, but maybe I didn't give it a fair chance and you get used to it. But I'd like to read other people's opinions with movie watching on consoles because I honestly don't know. I can get a used Blu-ray player for pretty cheap, but I already have an Xbox One. If anyone could help me that would be great!

Nintendo 3DS MUGEN Exended Battery?
Games Retrospect replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
That's great news. I haven't used mine yet because I don't have any 3DS games. I'll save some money for a Pokemon or Monster Hunter though. I also realized that if the worst happens, I could always use a power bank and a USB cable. Not the most elegant solution, but at least I can play the damn console if the battery runs out. -
I recently brought my PSP to a family reunion with a copy of Monster Hunter Freedom 2. Long story short as soon as I got there, the battery died on me and there wasn't any monster hunting that evening. So I did some research online to see a comparison between the battery life from all the portable consoles and realized that the 3DS (which I own and also has a bunch of Monster Hunter games) has a better battery life. I also found out that there's something called "MUGEN extended battery" which is an accessory that has almost four times the charge of a regular battery. What I couldn't find though was people selling them or any alternatives I can get. So does anyone have any experience with these? I want to know where can I get them, how much are they or if there's anything similar in case they are rare or discontinued? Any other accessories worth getting? By the way, I own a 3DS XL. Thanks! Here's a video for reference -
