Commodore 64 direct-to-TV w/30 games is here!
deadtech replied to Flojomojo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Sorry to threadjack here, but I have sen this issue (RAM pack trouble) mentioned with SpaceStation Silicon Valley in other places on the 'net as well. But I've found no details about what the trouble is. I just recently (last couple days) got SSSV, and I played it last night in my N64 with the RAM pack in place (official Nintendo 4M RAM pack). It played with no noticable faults. Is there some other problem with this setup? Any info would be appreciated. Cool game too, BTW -deadtech -
The BGE cover shown in that ebay auction in an earlier post was mock-up box art from some website (perhaps even Ubisoft?) before the game hit retail in the US. Note the "RP - Rating Pending" ESRB box near the bottom. ....and I just want to add that I usually don't like games like BGE, but I REALLY loved it. I even played almost 3/4s of it. Which is a true rarity in my playing habits of most modern bloated games. Anyway if you don't have the game, get it for some system ASAP. -deadtech

I must admit a bit of a soft spot for Sewer Shark. But I think that is about the only FMV game I enjoyed at all, at least of the ones I've tried. I can't get in to Night Trap or the point and click type games. Mad Dog Mcree and the like never interested me much either. In modern games, where there is non-interactive FMV movie parts, I cannot tolerate those for more than about 30 seconds. Regardless of how "pretty" they might be. -deadtech

On the Aspyr site/mail order form, I cannot tell if postage is included. If not how much is shipping to an address in the US? -deadtech

Well, due to the influence of the folks on the board here, I have finally taken the plunge and bought Ms.PacMan:Maze Madness for N64. I think it was made by the same folks who did PacMan World (and I *think* they did Dead to Rights as well!) In any event, Ms.Pac:MM is great fun as well. I had been meaning to buy it for a while, and the positive impressions convinced me. I also picked up a used copy of Klonoa 2 for PS2 on the advice of a friend of mine. That is a good one too for people looking for a modern platform game without boring wander-fetch sections. I have never played the PS1 Klonoa, but I hear it is similar, and also very fun. There are 2 GBA Klonoa games, but I understand they have more of a puzzle element to the gameplay. I havn't tried them either, any thoughts on those ? If only the modern Marios, Sonics, etc. were more linear like PacMan World and Klonoa, I would buy every one of them! Oh, also: have any of you tried out the (JP-only) Legend of Starfi (Satfi no Densetsu) GBA games? I know the second one is out now (or soon). But I am not sure they are worth the cost and effort to track down. -deadtech

I too, am a fan of Mr.Driller. I have been playing the GameCube (JP) game Mr.Driller:Drilland. It is great fun, and has several new modes including one based on the older Namco game Castle of Druaga. However, it is that particular variation that is giving me trouble. I cna get to the boss (yep, there is a boss!) consistently, but what ever I do, I CANNOT damage him. Nothing seems to work. Anyone who has played this part of Drilland, your input would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have heard that Mr. Driller 2 (GBA) is going to get a release in Europe sometime in the next few months. It will have English language as one of the selectable languages. Yay! Still no English Mr. Driller A(ce), though. -deadtech

Thanks for the ideas guys, and here is about all the help I can give you on the trees and trampolines parts: I don't know if you have figured this out, but if you (not sure, you'll have to try it out, sorry!) either hold or double tap the jump button, you will plummet quickly to the ground. You have to jump and then NOT press the button as you steer towards the next platform. If that isn't the part you are having trouble with, let us know. Also, if you are having trouble with that part, look out for the Ice levels! -deadtech

Hello folks. I don't like most 3D platformers, because they have lost the goal in earlier 2D platformers. In most of those, you merely had to get from one end of the level to the other. You COULD, if you so desired, pick up various items along the way, but they were not absolutely necessary. In most newer 3D platformers, the goal has "evolved" into a boring (to me, anyway) collect or fetch type format. Recently, i got a very cheap copy of PacMan World 2 for Gamecube. I basically got it not really knowing anything about it. I was very pleasantly surprised! itr is really very fun, and has a great feel similar to the older style 2D platform games, in that there is stuff to collect, but all you MUST do is get to the end of the level. Anyhow, I just wanted to let anyone who doesn't know already that Pac Man World 2 is great. I havn't played the first, so I cannot vouch fo rthat one. I also wanted to know if anyone knew of any similar games, that DO NOT include copious collecting. Linear and short is just fine by me. (And yeah, i already have Wario World). -deadtech

Activision Anthology for the GBA ! ! !
deadtech replied to PongHit's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I would be very pleased if there truns out to be 60 (or more!) games on this cart. I don't think that would be a challenge for a GBA cart these days, but I don't know the specifics. Anyway, the reason I am surprised to hear that is because they (people making retro compilations) don't usually put a lot of games on one volume. Even the PS2 Activision Anth. only has about what? +/- 30 games? And the Namco Museum discs for PS1 are another example. The largest commercial pack I can think of was the Konami MSX pack for Saturn (JP only). It had 3o MSX games on one disc. The PS1 version had the same 30 games, but split between 3 seperate discs (also JP-only). That being said, if there are 60 games, I will most definately be buying the game on the day of release. -deadtech -
You know what, in that case, count me in. I will figure something out about how to use them in the futre. I will take one set. -deadtech

I am sorry if this is a stupid question, and I don't have either hardware item in question, but i these were kept as music CDs, not MP3s, would they be usable on a Starpath Superchager? It seems to be quite a bit more common, and I had planned on getting one eventually. If these can work on a Supercharger, definately count me in! -deadtech

I would like to be added to the (abroad) list. I am in USA, and will NOT be attending JagfestUK, unfortunately. -deadtech

Ikaruga for the GCN Roll call... who is getting it?
deadtech replied to bluevoodu's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I will be sure to get it. Even though i have the DC one already and don't really care much for it. Shumps are my fave type of game, and always have been. But many of the newer ones just don't really seem too fun, to me anyway. Gimme Moon Patrol for 'Cube, and then we're talkin'. I don't even have a 'Cube yet anyhow. But I plan to get one at some point, along with the GBA Player (even though I already have both Super Gameboy AND Terebi de Advance!) I will definately use the GBA Player more than any GC game soft I am sure. -deadtech -
Game you never figured out the point of?
deadtech replied to Foxy Cleopatra's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I may be mistaken, but I think in some versions of SimCity 2000 at least, if you get enough Arcologies built, they will launch off into space. And the game will end at that point. I have never personally seen this occur, BTW. -deadtech -
Here is the info as I understand it: In the Hunt/Kaitei Daisenso for the Saturn has a bug or some other such problem, and often will not load on a Saturn. I found some posts on a Saturn message board about this very subject a few years ago, after I had first got the game. I have experienced it first hand, with both US and JP versions of the game. Neither will load on my Saturn. I resorted to getting the PSX version. It loads fine, and should be fairly cheap (it's a PSX long-box game in the US) if you can track it down. I still have my Staurn versions, but neither have ever loaded. -deadtech

Anyone own the Ninja Gaiden SNES collection?
deadtech replied to burke_01's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I own that game. It isn't EXACTLY identical to the NES versions, and IMO it's worse. How so? Well: 1.Some colors are changed, and look worse. 2.Some music and sounds changed (not better, just different) 3.Some backgroud effects missing Also, if you plan on getting the cart, it is usually easier and cheaper to just get the 3 for NES instead. My advice would be NOT get the Trilogy version, unless you want every variation of the series, or are working on getting a complete SNES game set. Not worth the money, IMO. -deadtech -
The ideal setup for me, would be composite ( I have no S-vid capable devices) and stereo would be fine too I guess. Oh, and to have it working on a 6-switcher, my fave 2600 model. Sounds great! BTW, I have seen folks mention the C=64 chroma/luma cable. I recently got one of those, and i do not have a Commodore monitor. Is there a trick I can use to make the C=64 chroma/luma cable work with my composite TV? -deadtech

Koffi: Yellow Kopter 1st Edition -- some still available!
deadtech replied to Cafeman's topic in Atari 5200
Really, you should get this game if you are able to! Please, if you can afford it, it is worth your time. A really great game. And in case you may be worried about the infamous 5200 controller: Stop worying! This game controls FINE with the stock controller, no need for a Wico or any other fancy stuff. Thanks for the fun game Cafeman, and I look forward to more in the future. -deadtech -
Hello folks. I just got a CBS Electronics Mountain King cart geaturing "RAM Plus". I understand that means the cart has more RAM onboard. I have a few questions: 1. Is it normal in Mountain King in particular for the sound effects/ background tune to sort of turn on and off. It seems like the sound is almost intermittent. 2. Is RAM Plus (or some similar scheme) a possibility for homebrewers? Or are the compatible RAM chips not available any more ? 3. What is the maximum amount that could thoretically be added using the RAM Plus method? Or is it maxed out already? Or not useful? 4. What were all of the RAM Plus games anyway? I am just curious. I havn't even managed to beat the first level of Mountain King yet. Any info would be welcome. -deadtech

Does it look like one of these? http://www.atariage.com/2600/systems/sys_S...ideoArcadeB.jpg http://www.atariage.com/2600/systems/sys_S...ideoArcadeC.jpg If so, that is the Sears licensensed version of the VCS. -deadtech

Well, I havn't found anything this year as of yet, but I got a couple things in the last few days of '02. For example: boxed, but not complete (missing RF unit, RF cable , and power supply) 2600 Jr. It also had 2 of the keyboard controllers (Basic Programming-type). In addtion, I found 9 loose 5200 carts at one thrift. So that was pretty cool -deadtech

WOW. That VCS Flashcart sounds great. I will be very interested in getting one when you can get it all worked out. I think I am not the only one who doesn't want to miss a chance like I (we) did with the Cuttle Cart. I really think these (and other!) homebrews are really great! -deadtech
-
I got my Koffi the other day. I have been eagerly awaiting this game, and had not tried it out on any emulator. Well, it surpassed my expectations. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but now that I do, it is really great!! I usually don't care if a homebrew has a box or instructions, but the booklet was really well done, I must say. Thank you Cafeman, and I look forward to Adventure II, and any other fun stuff (?) you have in the works. -deadtech

I plan on getting a Supercharger fairly soon. What are these mods you mentioned? Sounds cool. -deadtech
