  1. Why not have this on top of your TV the next time you take a high score money shot? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MESSE%3AIT&rd=1 It's not too late!!
  2. I've been curious about more details on exactly what TwinGalaxies will accept. I know video tape for sure (i.e. - streaming through your VCR or via a Camcorder on a Tripod, etc.) but the 'Referee verified' ones are a bit more puzzling to me - how exactly does that work?

    Tempest?

Interesting stuff. What's the 'best' 2600 game that utilizes the paddles?

    Tempest?

Why was an official version of Tempest never done for the 2600 (or was it?) This game BEGS for smooth paddle usage!
  5. WOW! I just picked up a gold RCA to Coax adaptor and was shocked at the dramatic difference between it and the 'ol switchbox. Probably old news for most folks here but it's so crisp and vibrant now that I don't even feel the need to go for the component or s-vid mod - amazing.
  6. Quick Question: Does the picture need to be hard copied and sent via snail mail in order to qualify? I'm nowhere near qualifying yet but am planning ahead for the day I do!
  7. Hmmmm....noticed a few excited folks in this thread who ordered one of these but no one seems to have reported back the results. In another thread perhaps?
  8. Sorry, bjk - didn't mean to imply that your suggestions weren't valid - until I start ruling things out it's still somewhat of a mystery to me. I believe that I have been removing and inserting the cartridge in between tries too so I'm hoping that cleaning the console port does the trick. Thanks for the help!
  9. I'll have to take it apart again and try cleaning the console connector more directly. I'm not sold on the power switch as the culprit as it doesn't exhibit the behavior you are describing. It's either on (working) or off (not) - when I do get a game to work wiggling the power switch doesn't have any impact (i.e. doesn't turn it off and on)... Ah, but when it does work the memories are grand! I also need to do something about the lousy video but that's a project for a different day I suppose.
  10. One weird thing I am still noticing - it seems like I have to turn the 2600 on and off several times for it to 'recognize' games. Sometimes it works on the first try other times it seems like I have to perform voodoo on the thing. What is this usually an indicator of - something with the 2600 hardware failing?
  11. BINGO!!! You guys are AMAZING - thanks for all of the responses. I took everything apart and re-soldered the power connector and boy was I ever surprised when I put everything back together again and it actually worked!! I've been playing Jr. Pac Man (Never had that one as a child), Starfire and Venture. What a blast. Thanks so much to all of my fellow Atari friends who offered suggestions and especially the kind offers in Private Messaging. Won't be such a bad night after all.
  12. Well - after all these years and only fond memories of my Atari playing childhood almost 21 years ago I finally went and re-claimed part of the past - only to have my hopes smashed for the time being. I won an Auction on ebay and today was the day it showed up on my doorstep. I excitedly unpacked the contents, marvelling at the six switch 2600 and controllers. I plugged it into our larger TV downstairs (using a newer Radio Shack game switcher) and flicked everything on... Nothing but obnoxious static. No problem. I figured perhaps the switch selector wasn't set right. Arching around the back of the TV with my arm I slid the selector in the opposite direction - still nothing but static. Starting to get a little nervous now I studied the 2600 itself (I didn't remember if it had a Channel selector or not). Finding the A/B switch I toggled it as well. Still nothing. Thinking the Switch Connector may be the culprit I grabbed the one that shipped with the auction and connected it via the RF leads to an older TV in the house. Still no luck. I noticed that the power supply gives off a small blue spark when plugged in so I don't think it's the power supply. I've sent the seller an email (according to his listing it was in working order) and informed him that it was DOA. I'm a little angry right now but mostly sad. Not sure what else to try at this point - talk about a night going from high to low (and I have this brand new Starfire game sitting here from AtariAge too). Some other time, perhaps. Sigh.
  13. Wow! Congrats on the Win. I'm sure those moments you spend opening this bundle when it arrives will have enough excitement and energy to power a city full of Atari's!
  14. Get in line. We have a handshake agreement already in place and are negotiating final details.
  15. Wow - I thought I was doing pretty good for myself but if you guys can drop a cool 1,000.00 on something like this I'm just a tiny tot...
  16. That's pretty tasteless. People have no business poking fun at something that resulted in the deaths of thousands, IMO. And how exactly is this topic even relevant to the Atari Jaguar Forum....?
  17. Well - I just ordered my very own copy of Star Fire and I'm pretty excited! I just won a 2600 Woody on eBay and this is my first homebrew - can't wait to recapture my childhood and (hopefully) earn that patch!
  18. Lee, Seriously dude - this is getting out of hand! I NEED several of those high quality dust covers (1 for my Intellivision 1, Atari 2600 and NOW for my Dreamcast also!!) MUST...HAVE...DUSTCOVERS!!!
  19. BTW, I forgot to mention: If you're curious about what Romero is up to these days after reading Masters of Doom be sure to check out his site. The forums are especially interesting. You'll find John himself posting all over the place in topics ranging from his reaction/thoughts to Masters of Doom all the way to his tips on how to program for the Apple ][! Very cool to be able to 'interact' with one of the legends...
