  1. Glad you like it. I'm slightly past a quarter into Dungeons & Dreamers - it's interesting to note the differences in some of the 'facts' around the Doom story (Carmack & Romero) - events get described differently between the two books - I wonder which 'version' is the most correct... Both are fantastic reads nonetheless...
  2. Hmmm....based on the behavior I have witnessed during my limited time on these Forums I think this thread could be categorized as bait for MacGurl (considering her participation in the Screw Starscreamer thread)... But back on 'topic' - I think to effectively answer this question you have to qualify the degree of hardness. I mean, a Power Gamer may like to get absolutely pounded for awhile whereas a beginner or intermediate type may get spent more easily and slip out due to frustration...
  3. I'm assuming you want the rechargeable one and not the clip on one that came with the system?
  4. You think you're scared. How do you think Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde feel after he swallows a Power Pellet?
  5. Well, there's always ebay. I saw this listing for a 'brand new' 600: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...0&category=3544 If that doesn't strike your fancy I have an Amiga 1200 with built-in hard drive that may interest you!
  6. Just out of curiousity - is there a way (inside the system) to see where and/or the date of manufacturer?
  7. I followed up with the Seller. My belief is that is wasn't intentional. He did provide a picture of the manufacturer sticker: So I guess this one was manufactured in Sunnyvale even though it's not a heavy sixer? Of course someone could have swapped the sticker but the guy seems reasonably apologetic about not realizing it was truly a heavy sixer. I'm guessing this one doesn't have the heavy internal shielding then also, eh?
  8. Yes - I tend to agree with this line of thinking. The seller states in the title that it is a 'heavy six' so it's very misleading, in my opinion. It may not be intentional however but hard to tell.
  9. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3073417239 The person selling the system claims that the manufacturer sticker on the bottom says that it was made in Sunnyvale, CA but the edges don't look thick or round enough...
  10. Nice 2600 dust cover!! I think AtariAge should sell those! Me Want
  11. I'm thinking about making the drive to Milwaulkee this year for the Midwest Gaming Classic and am curious - has anyone been to past events and did you find it worthwhile? Thanks for the opinions!
  12. Touche'! If that's what it comes down to than so be it.
  13. Ahhhh, but I'm trying to reclaim the hindsight is 20/20 visions of my childhood! Why not reach for the perfect memory?
  14. Wow - not a single public response (other than a few private messages). What if I settle for just a 'regular' six switch 2600 (non Sunnyvale) - any takers, then? -Thanks
  15. Guys - this is a BLATANT cut and paste job from one of Dustin's auctions. I actually sent a 'question' informing the seller that he was falsely advertising and he responded back with some rant about he is a 'gangsta' and 'you a sella I'm a sella so why you talking trash - I aint no thief!'...
  16. Cool. I've got my copy sitting here now - went and picked it up tonight (gift card from X-Mas came in handy!)
  17. Very cool - thanks for sharing - I'll have to pick this up! Here's a link for more info if anyone is interested. I also recommend reading 'Masters of Doom' - a GREAT read about two of the more interesting (IMO) programmers of our time (Carmack and Romero) and their rise to fame with id Software and beyond.

Thanks for your interest and post here, email or private message if you want to chat further. Regards, Ken aka AtariK2
  19. No offense but that's not exactly my definition of 'purty'. Then again - maybe I'm just a sucker who falls for coats of fresh Atari Orange paint and Armor All instead of buying ugly and 'restoring' myself...
  20. Here's the obligatory Screen Shot to whet everyone's whistle! (As if you were expecting it to look any different!)
  21. Yum....Burger Time!! What a GREAT game on the Intellivision. Is there a port on any other system that is better?
  22. Definitely sounds like the dreaded Thomson drive is in play here. These drives are notorious for failing (it starts gradually with Dirty Disc Errors and then flat out failure / lockup). I had one and exchanged it under service plan for a Samsung Drive unit (the Sammy plays a much wider variety of CDR's also and is widely considered the best of the three different drives that are found in XBoxes). Check this image to determine what drive you have: If you are looking at picking up a new XBox you can reference this Serial Number chart to increase your odds at scoring a Samsung drive: Linkage
  23. I can't speak to the 'norm' - this is the first time I've discussed it here.
  24. Regarding frustration over getting outbid 'at the last second' on Ebay auctions: Do yourself a favor and pick up some form of 'sniping' software. There may be those who don't like it but it works and it is no form illegal or unethical, IMO. Do a Google search for 'snipeit' - I've won many auctions with this tool and it does exactly what you've seen during your frustrations - it automatically (and without human intervention) submits your highest pre-configured bid 10 seconds before auction end. (The time interval is configurable). I share this information not because I'm some genious but simply because I believe everyone should have a level playing field... In terms of being able to find stuff locally - I truly believe this is a regional thing. When I lived in Los Angeles there were TONS of locations with good items - here in the Midwest it's a completely different animal. Good luck.
  25. I came across this auction today and had a question. Is the statement made in the listing actually true: "This is the Japanese version of the Virtual Boy and is considerably rare in comparison to the more common USA Version" If so what is it about the Japanese version that makes it more rare - availability?
