  3. Well at least some time this month. Every time I see "May the 4th Be With You" I am all "Oh yeh... Bubsy's birthday month!" So have a great month out there fellow nerds! And be careful tomorrow for the RETURN OF THE FIFTH!! (Sith pun).
  4. Looks like Songbird is out of stock on Wormhole. Anyone in the Dallas, TX to Central, TX got a copy I can come over and play?
  5. Saturn does a lot with Doom and various Doom maps Here is a Wolfenstein 3D hack I found: "This is a patch for the Atari Jaguar version of Wolfenstein 3D which fixes two following things: Hans Grosse’s, Trans Grosse’s and Dr. Schabbs’ names now display in the correct order; For some reason, the purple wall texture has been replaced by the grey boulders texture, but, on the automap, it’s still purple. This patch replaces the automap graphic. The patch is in the XDelta format." Here is one for Flashback: "With the exception of the CD-based releases, all other versions of Flashback (Sega Genesis, SNES, FM Towns Marty, Macintosh, DOS, and Amiga) play the same famous introduction jingle when Conrad is waking up. All - except the Atari Jaguar release which, for some reason, had the jingle accessible from the sound test menu but was never used during the game. This patch rectifies that oversight. It can be applied to any Jaguar ROM extension (*.rom, *.j64, *.jag, etc), provided it passes the CRC check. I’ve included two versions of the patch: “ROM Flashback Jingle.ips” should be applied to your Jaguar ROM if you just plan to use it on an emulator. “JAG Flashback Jingle.ips”, while not tested on real hardware, has been patched with the universal cartridge validation for a Jaguar running on an Alpine dev board. Lunar IPS is required to patch the game."
  6. (Looks aroud a bit) Oh... Pinball fantasies did! Those can possibly be swapped out. I did that with Bubsy recently. So wonder what kind of background pictures were used? Be cool make other pinball themes.
  7. Every time I read this I wonder how the two pinball games for the Jaguar, how the background picture is added? Could other themes be hacked in for example by replacing background pictures? And what music formats do they use? Did either use mod files?
  8. Wrapping up my three day Bubsy safari.... (Would play for hours, pause, play more, etc. My poor Jag, I don't do this often.) Level 7: 509 balls. (Robert R) and 506 here. Level 8: 718 balls. (Robert R) and 713 here. Level 9: 791 balls. (Robert R) and same here. Level 10: 1,095 balls. (Robert R) and 1,040 here. Level 11: 1,315 balls. (Robert R) and 1,311 here. Level 12: 1,332 balls. (Robert R) and 1275 here. Level 13: 1,168 balls. (Robert R) and 1147 balls here Level 14: 721 balls. (Robert R) and 622 balls here. Level 15: 893 balls. (Robert R) and I believe it said 693 balls here before it flickered over to let me enter my name... At the end of it all, between the balls collected here, and Robert R, he is only 14 balls ahead of what I collected. Robert R, person who collected the most balls to date, said he could get a little over a 1.2 million score. So that seems to be the ball park he found was between a million to a million and a half is more the practical maximum. My last score in 2009 was 1,151,654 and I was just going with my practice knowledge. Current score of 1,343,261 this time I had level maps to help in tracking down items, as well as speed run experience to get the more points for time. And I believe with another run, getting my numbers closer to what Robert R had, using more of the speed run techniques for time points, I could push that score up to around the 1.5 million area. So the high score of 2,195,810 was great for how we more loosely played in 2008 and 2009 (scoring whatever we could in what the game allowed, making use of flaws and all) but I believe and submit that 1,343,261, based on maps made of the game levels and Robert R's numbers, is the best reported score so far with our current rules of play in 2023. Score submitted is done so earning score from enemies and collecting items on the level along with time points. There was no point farming used per the 2023 rules. (such as the level 3 continue loop, or the level 13-15 "Pie stomping" farming method.) ------ Wanted to give Biopede another go but ran out of time. And since I came up with a level 1 challenge for new Bubsy players, I have a prize for the top level 1 player.
  9. Bubsy... faster than Sonic, as fragile as early nineties Mario. It's like that old question "What power would you like?" Someone says "I'd like to be able to fly". Wish granted. First hard landing person pancakes.
  10. I heard Dino Dudes score just flickers before going to title screen. If it shows for even a frame I could record the game as I go (or people could video it as it is wrapping up) and grab the score that way. Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure needs to be hacked so that it has an extra decimal point for the score board.
  11. Nice score though! Great to see you all digging into Bubsy. You learn so much from the game on the first level. I remember learning to jump on those tiny mid-air mushrooms and thought I would never master those. Interesting fact, the levels were developed out of order. Ali-Baba was the original world 1, but development on Alice went so well several worlds in that it was switched for the opening level. That is why Ali Baba seems to much easier than the Alice levels and boss. So suffice to say, if you can master the first level you've got a lot of the skills needed for this game. ---------------------------------------------- So while you are all mastering the first level (a big deal as quite a few never master or finish the first level so congrats to all you who now can) I've been off on safari, exploring all the nooks and crannies of the game. On replays of the game I'm finding I should have kept playing when I had that 121K and 794 balls on the first level! Best I've done since is about 115K and 792 balls. The highest amount of balls recorded is 801 by Robert R. 2nd level the 903 balls matches what Robert R was able to find. Third level I had 728 balls. One less than Robert R's record of 729. Fourth level was a real grind. 419 compared to 456 found by Robert R. Some room for improvement there. Fifth level 649 balls... survey says... ding... 652 found by Robert R. Sixth level Robert R had 1,029 balls, and today I am able to add 1,309 balls! There has been a lot learned about the sixth level in the past few years. So that said, continuing to play this and shoot for the high score. At the very least going safari like this has been like playing a all new game. I normally speedrun past most of the levels.

  13. Another one, again just to show the upper ceiling of level 1 (I have bigger plans and hope to see if I can beat the overall high score)
  14. I'll just say, I'm surprised there are not more hacks and tinkering when it comes to Jaguar roms, at least from my experience with graphics hacking 2600 games. But then there are a lot more tools developed for hacking 2600 and Atari 8-bit games. Maybe more for the Jaguar in the future.
  15. New game bundle would also be welcome.
  16. Have to admit, now that Atari has bought the rights for Bubsy, I'm hoping they can provide a patch upload to add Bubsy: Fractured Furry Tales to the Atari 50th Anniversary (for me on PS4). Sure I've played it at least 400 times, but playing with a wireless controller! Would rock!
  17. Two newest Bubsy games were were reskins of existing games. Will say the voice actor was fun and not as grating as say the voice in Bubsy 3D. And the music for both games were also quite good. A lot of creativity thrown at giving it a fun Bubsy look at feel for both. Woolies Strike Back was a reskin of Giana Sisters' latest game. Gave the player the ability to explore in the level, added a pounce attack, and removed the falling damage (since falling damage was not in the Giana Sisters game probably.) Had like three boss levels and 15 levels total I believe. I had a good time playing it. A game that someone could finish in about 45-50 minutes without trying too hard. That was the usual complaint was how quickly the game could be played through. ---------- Paws on Fire was a reskin of Runner III I believe. Unlike other Bubsy games where you could explore the level freely, this one had where you run through a course, jumping over things, sliding under things, etc. Had it where you can play Bubsy (Bobcat), Virgil (Vole), and someone the fans call "Ally" (Woolie). Each have different special moves. And you can play mini-games as Arnold (Amadillo) as you run through tunnels underground collecting prizes. I believe a lot of the Runner fans out there picked it up, stating it was not as good as the other runner games, but liked it enough. Another fun thing about Paws on Fire is you could buy new outfits for the various characters. So for the first time in game, aside from the "Snake" code in Bubsy 3D, you could have Bubsy in something other than the white shirt with exclamation point that he always wore. Fun enough games both of them. Between the two of them I find Woolies Strike Back one I play from time to time. When I want to watch humrous Bubsy cut scenes and world building material, I tune up Paws on Fire for a little bit. Speaking of, the level I cue up most often is the goo alien boss level. That level is actually a fun replay level for me. The rest of the levels were fun as I was working to make more and more perfect play throughs, but the urge to replay is not quite there. So there you have it.
  18. A balanced assessment. In truth, if not one of the classic Jaguar titles, or the characters in the game, I probably wouldn't have given the time I have getting to know it.
