  1. Here's an excellent cover of The Great Mighty Poo theme! https://soundcloud.com/kawabounga/bullshit It just may be the best song I have heard from the past 20 years. (This is including Ryan and Daryl Mitiska from Apocalypse Cartoons.)

  2. Would a 40-year-old African Grey parrot with a foul mouth be a good RPG character?

I think you're going to run into encumbrance issues. I recommend a barbarian that only quotes Schwarzenegger's *other* movies. "Get to the choppa!"

      Both sound like good ideas.

  3. Would it be considered cartoon heresy to say that Animaniacs hasn't aged well? Sure, there was Slappy and Pinky and the Brain, but beyond that...

@jd_1138: same with me. 1940s cartoons held up through time rather well.

I barely saw it back in the day, but seems hilarious to me :) I Love the old Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies as well !

  4. I don't know if you guys are into Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko, or My Neighbors, The Yamadas, but Isao Takahata just died. I liked The Little Norse Prince despite Toei's meddling.

  5. It looks like John K has joined the sexual scandal pile. http://www.michaelbarrier.com/#johnk

  6. As much as I liked watching the original TMNT cartoon ('87-'96), I will admit that it hasn't aged well. Hell, I can see why Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman hated it. The 2003 TMNT, on the other hand, is criminally underrated and is easily the best thing 4Kids has ever done.

    1. Jess Ragan

      Jess Ragan

2003 Turtles are definitely better, but I like how the 2012 series "split the difference" between the old and new shows. Baxter Stockman getting chopped to bits in the 4Kids series was a little too intense for me.

    2. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

2003 TNMT was the closest you'll ever get to the original comics. '87 version was just a toy commercial...

I still owe my parents a massive apology for forcing them to endure that part of my childhood. And also to my grandmother, who took me to TMNTII:Secret Of The Ooze when it came out. Yikes.

  7. So, are there any other non-Warner/DC cartoons that patterned their styles after B:TAS besides Gargoyles, MK: Defenders of the Realm, and The Big O?

  8. Am I the only person here who has heard of RosenKreuzStilette and MegaMari?

      Dragon Princess Yushira

Nope. I have. I never played them but seen them in action.

  9. I've had this idea in which you take any bad Rob Liefeld drawing and re-drawing it into something actually good. (Don't just limit yourselves to those two Top 40 Worst lists.)

  10. One More Day is still the biggest zit on J Michael Straczynski's Spider-Man run, if not his entire career. Here's Linkara's take:

Tune your ear to the frequency of despair...And cross-reference by the longitude and latitude of a heart in agony...Ha!

  11. Just because I agree with Osamu Tezuka and Bill Scott that 'a good story can save bad animation, but good animation can't save a bad story', doesn't mean it should be used as an excuse. Either 1: People will start to get tired of looking at bad animation; or 2: the stories/jokes/etc. go to shit whether the animation improves or not.

Sounds right...Something tells me you might be thinking of a specific show?

  12. If you guys want a good PS Vita/PS4 JRPG, try Exist Archive. It's proof that Tri-Ace hasn't lost it.

  14. It's been years since I last played it, but I still prefer the Super NES/SFC Star Ocean over the PSP version.

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

Oh yeah, very much so, and I also feel exactly the same way about Tactics Ogre SFC vs PSP.

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I really liked all the little graphical details that none of the sequels had. Come to think of it, I also prefer the SNES/SFC version of Tales of Phantasia over the PS1, GBA, and PSP versions for the same reason.

  15. It's a shame that most comedy these days is uninspiring, unfunny, bland, and predictable. Sure, there's Edgar Wright, but despite imposing skills, he isn't the next Robert Altman or Ivan Reitman. Luckily, I'm writing my own comedy movie.

  19. I wouldn't mind a fighting game character modeled after Angus Scrimm's Tall Man character. Just imagine the potential if done well.

That would be pretty cool...I still need to see all Phantasm movies past the first one (I Know...call me Slacker ;)

I would like to see an Atari 2600 game of Phantasm. I imagine a chase scene with the Ball might be cool.

There is an Atari 2600 game of Phantasm. I think neotokeo did it.

  21. The first 78 episodes of The Real Ghostbusters have aged well in terms of writing and characterization. It sucks that ABC and Q5's meddling forced J Michael Straczinski to leave.

I remember thinking how much I preferred the cartoon to the second movie! I had no idea there were so many episodes. They should have had J. Michael Straczynski write the second movie...I could imagine a Great movie starting with an encounter with the Thing in Faversham's Attic...Maybe have it end up in another dimension, or have them find something like that spinning axis under Manhattan.

  22. Would an E-Body Cadillac Eldorado ('67-80) make a good hot rod?
